The Claremont Murders (2023)
Was too bored to finish
I just couldn't get over the editing and cutting of this series. A rather conservative camerawork glued together from scene to scene, interrupted by badly choosen soundtrack, with the introduction of news-flashes in a serial-killer-documentary-style killed all my will to get through this to the end. All the emotions of the victims families got lost for me on the way as they appeared just as another part of the first-aid-kit in movie-editing. None of the characters mattered to me, couldn't feel any dynamics no matter how dramaticly fast the police-actors tried to speak to create some and got into their analysis.
I wish you the best of luck to get through over two an a half hours of this, I didn't have that.
El grito de las mariposas (2023)
Feminism, freedom, liberty
It's a good thing if you can adapt with the characters in episode 1 of a series with 13 episodes, here it is delivered.
The ugly face of dictatorship is not only tranported through the white male midlle-aged characters but also the camera-work choose to differ between oppressor an oppressed, which got me hooked. The time.hooping doesn't affect the dramaturgie of the story, in fact it delivers.
As sad as the times have been, this series achieved to transport hope and a worthwhile resistance against a totalitarian regime plus a humanitarism in situations where manking showed it's evil face. Recommended!
Foscadh (2021)
Growing up as an adult
I appreciate movies where I can sympathize with the characters. Foscadh is one of them.
The mix of decent camerawork with a well chosen underlaying soundcarpet helped me to get to know John, the main protagonist of the movie, and his beeing quiete well. There is a certain helplessness, his feelings of beeing lost or not fitting pared with naivety, and there is a pressure to take things in his hands while people around him seem to be too demanding, which created the basic for a good movie. It's layered in a simple yet touching story, filled with humanism, hope, attraction despair and loath.
If you are looking for a movie to get fast entertainement, this will not be your cup of tea. But if you dig movies by Loach, I guess you will have a decent watch.
Paradise Lost (2020)
Sometimes there are small things ...
... that make it hard for me to like or continue with a TV-Serie. This might sound arrogant or biased but once I got my attention to the nonacting-skills of Bridget Regan as Frances I couldn't find much good beeing fixated by her overdone gestures and facial expressions. Having said that, the other actors and how their characters are shown didn't leave much room for me to draw any kind of feelings or affection for them. Since Paradise Lost is labeled as drama, to me that goes to the actings and the script plus the lousy music, the mystery to me is how could I ever find the time or patience to go along with ten episodes of it.
Lost Relics of the Knights Templar (2020)
Any educational value, please?
Right, we paticipate in the travels of two self-made millionaires on their quest about a mystery of a Knight Templars treasure. Both of them don't seem to know much about history, and I coudn't figure that they cared too much about their lack. I've been to the Wewelsburg and in Tomar and I guess I could give you more historical insights than delivered here. So thanks for the pictures of those venues, but apart from that I was only annoyed.
So it's more like following two unsympathetic guys on a holiday to places they find astonishing. That's pretty boring to watch and there's not much of a value to gain out of it. Indeed, if they would do a tour to their favourite pubs that might be more entertaining ... and maybe even more educational?
Die traurigen Mädchen aus den Bergen (2019)
Maybe I am too unpatient ...
But within 15 minutes in the movies the only emotion that this flick created is that I wanna punch the reporter of the Gonzo Magazine, who is responsible of doing some kinda investigational journalism about the Sad Girls, right in his face. Maybe the makers of the movie wanted to create this with the way the guy acts, the script he got, how he was filmed and portrayed. If that is the case, well done, but then don't please start to wonder when people don't feel like finishing the movie watching an idiot. If wasn't the intention, thern job failed.
From the beginning the movie is edited like a pseudo-documentary, it's not cut fast that I get interested, nervous or shaken (always regarding what kind of emotions a movie might create) and it's not slow with longer picture sequences that leaves room for interpretation or thinking. It's just uninteresting and I can't see if the makers really thought about something like that, or if the just did like it came out. And don't get me wrong, please, I like it when movies have the room to be spontaneous and are not done perfect, when I fell some "indie-flair", if I can see or feel some authenticity in it. Here, this doesn't happen.
So is this a bad movie? I don't know! I just didn't feel it deserved more than the 20 minutes I watched it. I hope other reviews prove that I switched off too early, but I doubt that.
Quicksand (2019)
Wodden
So many raving reviews makes me wonder what is wrong with me? No. If there is a movie or a series which every (!) character appears more to be more a wodden stick than a human beeing, where I don't sense any of the actors grew into their roles, where sounds totally fail to deliver an atmosphere but rather annoy me, when I don't see a story progressing, then to me it's just a wasted time to watch. I don't mind slowness in dramas, I don't mind a static way of camera-work when it was meant to be that way. I do mind sloopyness, a lack of talent by actors, non-recognizable directors-work, camera-moving for the sake of it, missing hooks and I do mind 10/10 ratings for something that can't seriously beeing put in the league of the best of the best.
Hanna: City (2019)
The girl grown up in the woods ...
I think it could have been a good series, the ingredients were there. Sadly, with Episode 3 the dialogues turned out to be too hillarious and even more, the girl from the woods, grown up only with the father, remember she didn't knew what text-messages are, can suddenly start and drive a mini-van in a dangerous flight-situation? Give me a break, this series ended for me with this scene!
Pierdete entre los muertos (2018)
I didn't get at all what this movie was about ...
... but I watched it with a friend and he had a hell of fun. No, we didn't, this movie sucks and makes no sense. Maybe we both watchers were too stupid to get the message, but rather more this movie really sucks. Call it art and you suck too! Ah, there was a rich guy buried in the ground, a lady with a baseball-bat with nails dancing and talking. And there was a wall with a hole where two people disappeared at the end of the movie when a really stupid dance-music played. Hey, this contains actually no spoliers, you will get the real message when you watch this ... not!
