Haunted Tales (2021)

Not bad in terms of acting and story
30 April 2024
I've watched so many horror films that are empty in terms of meaningfulness no matter how scary they are. I'm glad to find a difference here.

These are three scary tales. It is well-told , well-acted and well-directed. It might not be super scary for those who love horror films, but I admire that they respect real spiritual truth. All three tales in this film are connected to the After Life and it has meaningful things to say about it. There are some real teachings of Buddhism in them and that mean the movie itself respect the Truth of the spiritual world. I appreciate this kind of film much more than those that only focus on being extremely scary. The main characters in all three tales are played by professional actors and actresses of Thailand and they didn't disappoint me.

Overall. Good work, way to go.

A Big Disappointment
18 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the few Korean series that I really dislike. In contrary to the view of most people, I found that the story is just about a woman cheating on a man. She's selfish and her character is not lovable at all. (What's cute about pressuring a man to pay for her meal every time and what's cute about eating two bowls of noodles without sharing and feeling proud of it? I just don't understand. I hate that scene.) Even her conversation with the man she loves sound unkind. I didn't find sympathy for her. She's in a relationship with a man long enough, and suddenly she wanted to break up without saying why and without honestly tell him the truth that she and one of his college friends had a crush on each other. At least one should be honest if one is about to leave a person to get on a new relationship. And I'm saying that...as a woman.

The soundtrack is nice but too repetitive. The acting of the cast is very good and I wish they had a better script to play. The story is too dragging, too slow in some spots.

I know that the series meant for the audience to sympathize with their relationship, but sorry, I don't. It's not an immorality because she hasn't got married with her boyfriend, but keeping it away from him and trying to break up without a reason is selfishness.

A Time Called You (2023– )

Carefully-woven plot and excellent performance
18 March 2024
This is a romance movie with time-traveling subject. It was interesting all the way and I can watch without skipping an episode. The story puts together drama, romance, crime, and supernatural event into the right blend.

The most outstanding thing is the performance of the female lead who plays both personalities. She could really be a quiet and shy girl who almost has no self-esteem and feel suicidal, and play the cheerful and confident girl whose our male protagonist fall in love with. Her performance in this series deserve an award because she can really be two different girls completely. The other actors and actresses in the story look natural and smooth in their role.

Time-traveling in this story don't have any much reasons to support it. Why that tape bring them back? Why sometimes they play the tape and can't go back? Why the villain can go back so easily? However, there are aspects that I admire about the time-traveling and being inside another person body. If you're not the one taking control of the body, you are viewing life through another person's eyes from the cave inside your soul. This is interesting. I heard that in case of demonic possession, the spirit of the person being possessed is pushed to the back of his soul and isn't able to come out. And I also like the disappearance of everything once the tool for time-traveling is destroyed. It's like the whole timeline, the whole world that lives in one track of time totally disappeared.

There are moments when cinematography is so beautiful and there are times the music really brings a lot of emotion into the story. I also like the idea of two persons who will always love one another no matter what age difference they have to face or no matter what period of time they are in. I also like the matter of bullying, lack of confidence, depression and suicide presented in the last episode. It's really well-done.

Overall, this is one Korean series slightly above average. And you will be able to hum the beginning of that song "Tears" by Seo Ji Won once you get to the last episode because you will have heard it ten times or more. But it's a beautiful song, though.

Alias Grace (2017)

A Good Piece of Cinematic Art That Doesn't Give Anything
11 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is a well-written and well-produced film with excellent actress and actor to play the lead roles (and they did great job) and a lot of realistic costume and setting. The cinematography was beautiful, as well as the dialogue taken from the novel. What we see on screen can keep our attention and wants us to know more about this "Grace" how she will end up, and what she is really like, and what this story is trying to tell us. I enjoyed watching the five episodes, and felt somewhat disappointed when it comes to the last one.

You can listen to one story filled with excitement, tension, and mystery and be entertained by it, but in the end you might get nothing beneficial from it at all. I think this is the case with "Alias Grace". For the ending seems wanted the audience to interpret by themselves, and in my interpretation. Grace is just one woman who learns her way in a society controlled by men, learned to lie very well, to play victim. I don't blame her a lot if she would be a man hater after the violence acts committed to her at the asylum. But for me, in the end Grace just knew that Dr. Jordan had a crush on her but when she heard that he had a woman at the place he stayed with. She changed her mind and decided to ruin his imagination in order to hurt him on that particular talking-under-the veil scene. She didn't really love or forgive Jamie but she said so because she needs a man to be with to survive in that society. Well, that's my interpretation of the ending. The film doesn't give any solution or any thoughtful idea to the society, in my opinion. It just shows how a man-hater is built and how she gently works her way to survive.

Heart-warming story with insights about publishing business
26 February 2024
This is a romantic comedy mixing with drama and it reflects a whole lots of things in the book business of today. I enjoyed watching it quite a lot and it has a beautiful ending.

The romance between the two leads are growing very slowly and takes a lot of time. Their chemistry are on average, more like brother and sister to me. But it's ok because the series have something else that caught my interest. The fighting spirit of the middle-age woman. Our main female character has been through so much: getting dump by her husband, being broke, homeless, unable to find a job, walking barefoot on the street because she lost her shoes, all of that can even drive someone to suicide. But, she just keeps on fighting, keeps on doing the best she can every day, does her best in a lowly job with a smile. I mean that is very inspirational for me to see.

Also, the story shows us good solidarity in a small publishing company. No one is really a villain here. Everybody has their own good and bad side but most of the time they do their best for one another. They keep the spirit of unity. They fight and reconcile. The book business today is a difficult one to exist and the series show us that very well, but these people love what they and they just good-hearted people and makes the story heart-warming to watch. Some of the characters inside that publishing company are really funny and some minor pair of lovers in the story are fun to watch.

In conclusion, if you enjoy feel-good movies or if you are book lovers, you'll like this film. It's not much of the romance that stand out, it's the people...all of them here...that will touch your heart.

The Ice Road (2021)
7/10
Formula-based action, watchable for fun
26 February 2024
This is a film that follows basic Hollywood action formula for an action movie so there is nothing new with the story or how it is presented. However, if you have nothing to do, this action-packed movie is suspenseful enough to keep your attention, at least in my opinion.

We follow a situation. An accident happened in a mine. Our main character has problematic brother and has just lost his job, and so they ended up be one of the drivers who risk driving on the dangerous ice road to deliver important equipment to save those workers in the mine. I do agree with some of the reviews here that if the storyline keep to the danger of the ice road, it would be better. But then it turned out to be one with lots of villain to fight off, very formulaic.

I really appreciate the beginning accident on the ice road. The thrill of those moments seeing the truck running on those breakable ice kept me on the edge of my seat. But the story got a little annoying when the villain showed up. Yes, there are still a lot of actions going on but the story does not focus much on the ice road anymore.

The production overall is good and if you don't have anything to do. It's fine to watch this one to kill the time. Nothing new to expect, though, especially the very, very formula-based ending scene.

An entertaining sci-fi movie, I think it's underrated
24 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is a good entertainment and I enjoyed watching it most of the time. The story, the performance, the effects and overall production was fine and I didn't feel that Hemsworth or Teller were miscast. They did well in their role and add delicate and interesting personality to their characters.

The story is interesting and I respect a sci-fi story that admits science can be evil. We watch how these participants were treated by those drugs and it kept getting weirder and creepier. We saw natural romance blooming between a man and a woman who were inmates volunteered to be experimented on. We see a young scientist who seems friendly and polite, yet we learn more and more that he is obsessed with his work and he himself is not a happy person at all. It was as if he is jealous of the happiness of people around him. We saw that his assistant is also unhappy about this experiment but didn't dare to speak up. Things I saw on this film kept my interest most of the time and one particular actress who plays an inmate tortured in the experiment could perform very well and that scene scared and and tortured me as a viewer, too.

The bad thing about this film is the final scene, as though it was produced and directed by a different person. Why that annoying song in the background? Why making the ending look like a comedy when the rest of the film has been serious? I was disappointed with how the ending was presented, not the story itself.

Too little important moments and too much awkward comedy
24 February 2024
This Thai film got plenty of nice actor and actresses who can perform well, and the storyline has potential to become a heart-touching romance. Unfortunately too much unnecessary things are shown in the film so the movie is not powerful enough to make an impression.

We saw Kai Yoi's story with Dakanda, his friend whom he was secretly in love with, along with a new girl, Nui, a nurse who took care of him. Both stories are told alternately, which is ok. However, the core of the story should be focused on the feelings and the connection between the main characters but they were too little of that. A lot of time were spent on trying-to-be funny scenes, but most didn't work and I didn't laugh.

The main characters perform well, but I think the problem is the directing, making some actions look a bit awkward and in the wrong moment. Some are over-the-top and too dragging.

Anyway, it's a good try. The song and the scenery were beautiful. It's watchable but just a bit too boring.

A beautiful story, almost unrealistic
22 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes we come across a beautiful love story of true love and forgiveness like this and we may think it is so unreal because we can't find such a good man around. Actually, I felt a bit of that too but when I really think about it...I was just jealous of Angel because she's so blessed to find the perfect man who unconditionally loves her although she doesn't deserve him at all, and that didn't happen to me. So, I should review this from an unbiased point of view.

I think the movie is fine in its overall production. We got beautiful camera work, great setting, and a well-performing cast. I think the quality as a film is on higher average.

As for the story, we watched a life of a lovely blond-hair girl growing up very bitter and cold for she had such a terrible father and had suffered so much under brutality of evil men. She became a prostitute with no feelings. Then we saw this God-loving farm man, who is handsome and kind, suddenly fell in love with her and just did everything to rescue her like prince charming on white horse. She betrayed him again and again, and yet he still loved her and forgave her. There were dramatic scenes of her falling back into hands of bad people because she stupidly left her husband but she survived and in the end she was able to push the past behind and stayed forever with this perfect man.

On one look, you might see a soap opera and ask questions like, what make he fell so deep with such a woman because she doesn't seem to have anything good except being so pretty? Does a young man who is handsome, stable, religious, and hot in bed exist on earth? But since this story is based on Christianity teachings, I would say yes. An undeserving person can have perfect love and God has shown us that through the forgiveness of Jesus Christ. And yes, such a perfect man exist because there are saints walking on earth. It's just that there are very few of them. And the final yes, if someone is loved unconditionally and is forgiven again and again for a period of time, she can be healed from her trauma and can truly love another person.

Captivating and Scary, High-quality Horror Film
16 February 2024
This one surprises me a lot. The production overall is just superb. The story grabs the attention of the audience all the way with such a clever and reasonable plot, great editing, talented cast, the sound effects and cg effects are excellent as a horror film. It has double twists and they work well. The main characters are performed by experienced actors and actresses and they all look believable in their roles. The child actresses did good job, too.

I think this is one good thrill ride. It keeps us wanting to know more how the mother would solve this problem with the tenants and her own husband. There are ghosts popping up here and there, and yes, they are scary. The dark ritual also looks strange and frightening.

Usually I don't give 9 rating to a horror film because it doesn't give any meaningful message. However, the sad but surprisingly touching and beautiful ending of the film made me decide to give higher rating. Surely, you won't be able to guess the ending before the climax scene. It shows that the writer of the story is smart and also has a heart.

Trying to be too many things
16 February 2024
If a movie wants to be a mix of comedy, suspense, and romantic at the same time, it better mixes them well or otherwise it will turn out bland, in almost every way. In my opinion, this is one of wrong-mixed series. It is not too bad to watch if you don't have anything else to watch and nothing to do, but I have a long list, and this film didn't grab my attention firm enough.

First, it takes too long for anything to happen. It takes too long before the vet got her special gift, takes too long before the main male lead (the police officer) appear, and takes too long for them to be in love. So what are there for the audience before all this main plot begins to happen, just unnecessary things like a character of the aunt who, in my opinion, looks annoying and isn't a well-rounded character, some trying-to-be funny moments and too much funny music and cartoon-like effect, but most of the time it wasn't amusing for me.

The good points of this series is that they select the right persons to play the lead. Her look and voice and personality are suitable to be a vet. His look and personality is also suitable as a cop. There are lovely moments about the animal, and the story about the old man and his old dog was very touching and very-well presented.

However, I must conclude that for me this movie is neither funny nor romantic nor very exciting. The story moves too slow and filled with unnecessary stuff. But it's not all that bad if you have time to kill.

Unique and meaningful story, fascinating to watch
15 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The plot seemed strange to me in the beginning and the production of the film didn't look like it has a lot of quality; however, when I see how those kids behave at the beginning of the story, I was like...well, they deserve to be locked up and learned some lessons. I decided to watch the series, and it was the right decision!

The story is very interesting. It keeps us guessing what is in the head of Hiragi the teacher. As the story unfolds, I found that the film meant to discuss deeper subjects that drive problems inside these students and we see them forced to admit their own fault and learn from it. All along the way, the people in social media are shown criticizing everything, making fun with the situation, judging, blaming, and saying all terrible things through their comments. In the end, we find out that this is lesson for those social media users. They are the real killer and they, too, should be ashamed.

The performance of the cast overall was very good. The acting of the actor who plays Hiragi was very outstanding, deserving award. The CG and the effects were average but it is passable. The plot is very unique and we can't guess the ending. It has its exciting moments with twist and turn.

But I want to re-emphasize here that the best thing about this series is the important messages it is speaking to the audience in a powerful way. It is an important message and I respect the director, writer, and production team for producing this series. It doesn't look as good as Hollywood work, but it is more precious.

Short and memorable
13 February 2024
The short film shows us the suffering of the disabled because the Nazi viewed them as being garbage that waste money and resources. I didn't know before that the disabled German adults and children had suffered the persecution, too. The film is well done with beautiful cinematography, good performance, great location and setting and costume, and the story was told in a way that kept our interest all the way through, routing for the boy to survive. It is perfectly titled, if we think about how human trespassed against each other so much at that time in the history. Heaven must have wept bitterly back then. I hope similar thing won't return in another form to our present time.

From fresh point of view of one who hasn't seen the original series
12 February 2024
I started watching this series without any expectation because I haven't seen the original one and don't even know what the main story of that original series was about. It turned out be so much fun and engrossing story that I could almost binge watch it.

The characters are very distinct and display very clearly their desire , personality, background, strength and weaknesses. The clashing of these characters develop a story that always has something that keep my interest in every scene. The cast perform well, although not that outstanding, but we can see how they are very different people that has agonizing past in their own lives. The complexity of the story, the conflicts of interest between characters, its gaslighting and stabbing one in the back, its moment of romance blossoming and withering, the twist at the ending, as well as the setting being the Forbidden Palace of the old time when traditions is highly respected and value, give us such a beautiful and colorful movie that there was no boring moment and you just keep wanting to know more about what will happen next. Smart script, great directing, story moving at just the right pace. In the end, everyone has something we can sympathize for. BUT....this movie is not a melodrama or romantic comeday...it is a drama and that means they don't try to please the audience. Sometimes you have to admit that daughter can really take after her mother and some women can be strong when she decides to be. ( I hope I didn't give anything away).

I also want to say that the film shows fantastic costume design, beautiful cinematography, and great production overall. If you haven't watched the original, don't hesitate to watch this small spinoff. It is a great entertainment in its own right. The story is easy to understand. I would have binged watch it if I had had the time.

Well-crafted scientific film with a great cast
11 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is quite a unique movie and it is smartly-designed to hold the attention of viewers right from the start. Although it might moves slow and has a lot of conversation, this film is far from boring, due to creepiness and building of tension given out by the characters, the situation, the atmosphere, and the dialogue.

I really want to compliment the casting of this film. They two main actors and the actress who played the robot were so well-selected and their personalities were so distinct. It was as if each character was particularly designed to create specific feelings in the audience and each actor/actress know exactly what kind of person they are playing. I really admire the actress who played the main AI. She expressed just about the right amount of emotions in her eyes and gestures and make it mysterious enough to play with the feelings of the man and the audience, keep us wondering if she has consciousness and love feelings or not.

The story gets more and more interesting, especially after the black-out. The fact that all of this happened in a remote laboratory somewhere faraway, only accessible by helicopters and have not phone signal, gives even more tension to the situation because we know that our main protagonist does not have access to any help and might get stuck there.

As for the theme, I think I can understand clearly, at least from my point of view. (spoiler ahead) Machines are machine and they do not have a heart. If we are too careless and selfish like the scientist who create her or if we are too naive and gullible like the gentle young man who fell for her, we might be doomed. In the end, it is clear that the pretty AI was programmed to learn more and more and to seek way to go outside, using any possible tools and techniques. Being AI, she did exactly that. She used female sensuality and pretentious helplessness to find her way out from one man, and use heartless violence with the other man to escape from that place. Well, she is an AI, a machine, after all. If humans create something super smart, perfectly similar to us in look and personality, yet without a heart, humans have to take the consequences.

Did not touch my heart
11 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I deeply love a few other Japanese movies that touched on the theme of acceptance of death, but unfortunately, I could not understand the point and did not feel that the nuances in this film create any deep meanings. I did not relate to the characters. They look bland and does not have clear personalities. On the first half that they portrayed the love between these lovers, I did not feel much depth in it, so it was hard to be emotionally involved in the film after the accident happened.

There were also scenes that I felt absolutely unnecessary, such as Hitoki waking up to some lights in his room and started dancing alone. What's the point of it? And why did he has to wear his girl friend's dress after she passed away. It felt weird to me and I just didn't understand the meaning. The cinematography was ok but it didn't help much, since there are scenes that seem to be so mundane and pointless. Maybe the director has his own points and message to be sent, but I just didn't get it. Sorry.

My Demon (2023–2024)
8/10
Great fun and entertaining, high-quality series, yet sending out wrong message
9 February 2024
I give the 8 rating because of the overall quality of this series are superb. The visual effects are stunning; the design is very cool and stylish; some of the music used in the background is beautiful, the chemistry between the two is flawless. The rest of the cast also did great job. Some dialogues and funny moments can really make you laugh and there were some swoon romantic scenes for those who crave for it. However, I still have to say that the movie gives out wrong concepts and misunderstanding of Christianity. That's not good at all.

Therefore, I must separate between talking about the movie quality itself and that problem of hidden message. I enjoyed watching the film as an entertainment, one fantastic Korean series, no doubt why it is so popular. It is a well-done work with many elements fall into places just perfectly right.

Nevertheless, I don't think it's right to make the audience see that the demons are those who work for God, because in reality they aren't. They are always against God. It's quite dangerous to view lightly the concept of making a pact with a demon because that is the very worst thing a person can do to himself or herself. And to create such a good-looking and charming demon who is always a hero to our female main character might make some people who don't know the truth of what demons are become interested and want to get to know one. And lastly, God was shown without much respect in this film. God seems to be one who doesn't really care, like to make bets with people and like to gamble, and always blame most bad things on Earth to human. I just don't think that a true Christian would be happy if they watch it to that part.

But I'm not saying that the film is a downright blasphemy. It has its own idea about things, but it's just not nice to play with a concept of one's religion this way.

One of the main reason I decided to watch this series is that Song Kang is my most favorite Korean actor. He did very good job here in the role and I hope to see more of him in the future.

Ok in quality, but this mystery film offers nothing new
8 February 2024
This is a film that you can watch and enjoyed once but don't think about re-watching it. Yes, it can create the sense of mystery and creepiness. I had no problem watching it to the end. However, it will not be memorable because somehow such kind of mysterious psychological/ghost story has been done many times.

In overall look, the film has some good quality, especially in the creation of the strange, mysterious and scary atmosphere. The performance of the lead female role is quite good. She seems to understand her character and we can see confusion mixed with some fear and unhappiness in her eyes, just as someone with repressed memory should be. The man who plays the villain did good job as well. The film kept me guessing that the mystery and strange things that happened is her own psychological state or is something caused by spirits or is the action of a vicious person intended to confuse her mind. Another good point to commend is the soundtrack. Wow, those strange sounds of music was just perfect for the atmosphere and the story. I really appreciate it. Quite a good point of the film.

Now, let's see the down side. The movie moves a little too slow and the unravel of mystery takes time. Little things happened along the way but not much. It's not boring, but not very exciting either. There are a few plot holes and the ending is not that impressive. It was alright.

If you have nothing to do and is in the mood of something mysterious and scary, you can watch it. But it's just not an outstanding piece of work.

I could not move pass the annoying characters
8 February 2024
I admitted that I didn't finish the movie. There might be some interesting plot twists waiting ahead, but I felt from the beginning that it looks like fantasy that looks like a farce in costume, or a comedy that isn't even funny. The voice and action of the witch character was extremely annoying. Cinderella and red-hood girl exchanged some boring scripts. Then another annoying character popped up, looking like an angel or something. I couldn't stand watching it anymore. It's boring and isn't funny or interesting in anyway. The costume looks fancy alright but that doesn't enough to get me through. So I just write my experience and opinion as being from someone who couldn't manage to watch this movie to the end.

A wonderful and delicate film about youth, exceeding my expectations
6 February 2024
Honestly, this is one of the best Thai films I've ever watched. There are so many outstanding points about it. I should have watched it many years ago when it was first released. The film can be considered a masterpiece.

First, the actors and actresses in this film can both act naturally like professional and can REALLY play music! This is a story about music college students and they all look like real music students. The male lead character can play the drum with such great skill (not to mention being handsome and charming) and the rest of the cast also act well and can play their own instruments naturally. So, this is great performance from the whole cast and I believe that it's due to the talent of the director, too.

Second, the movie presents small moments of ordinary life in such a beautiful and meaningful way. The classical song (Vivaldi Four Season) the band was performing seem to reflect the seasons of life that the characters are going through. The story is told with sincerity and heartfelt feelings. There are moments to smile, laugh and cry, just the way life is. It takes someone with sensitivity and gentle heart to present a coming of age story with such delicacy and memorable details.

Finally, the cinematography was great. Many scenes are filmed so beautifully, like pictures in postcard. The music is excellent. It seems to flow into every element in every scene and reflects the atmosphere, the deep emotion of the characters, and the message that the story wants to deliver. Two thumbs up for music in this film.

I highly recommend this film. It's a real piece of art. Not surprising that it has won many awards.

Good quality Korean series, but not much chemistry
6 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I think this is a fine work. There is nothing like a big flaw to it and of course it is watchable and entertaining just like Korean series with good standard. However, I've watched so many Korean series and somehow this is one seem a bit mediocre to me. It's got all the elements but when they are mixed together, it doesn't make the story stand out that much when compared to some other series I've watched.

Yes, the story is interesting and has a paranormal element to it. They used famous stars with good acting skills. The first 4 episodes kept me glue to my seat and I found it a lot enjoyable. However, the story drags a bit in the middle and the plot is well-constructed but somehow it keeps moving in cycle. She's going to get saved somehow anyway because he will dreamed of that situation and things started to be less interesting. The cast did good job, overall. But somehow, to me, there is not much chemistry between the two lead characters and that is quite a big let-down.

I still recommend it to those who have not watched a lot of Korean series like me. Maybe I've watched too many of them so I lost interest too easily in this one. It's not a bad work, though.

Two perspectives that keep me pondering
6 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The documentary is interesting enough to hold my attention and it gives me things to think about. In my opinion, it's reasonable that they present quite convincing interviews and simulated situations of possession and exorcism in the beginning, for it is going to contrast another point of view in the half of the film, and we, as the audience, will make our own judgement about this case.

The movie part looks exciting and captivating. I like that they let these people tell the story themselves. There is something that convinced me that they didn't all lie. There could be a case of possession going with the youngest boy of the house. At least three kids (now grown up) seem to affirm it. There must be something going on back then.

However, when the murder happened, when the scene of murder was reported, the oldest boy in the house was interviewed, and the fact that the Warren seems to be hungry for money, made me think of another possibility, too. There might be a set-up of some sort. If not, how come the oldest son never believe that there has been any possession related to the murder? How come the boy David who was supposedly possessed shut up and behaved when the father of the house (who didn't believe his son was possessed) came to scold him? These are very interesting points and it kept me pondering.

Overall, I enjoyed learning about the story and it was easy to follow what was going on about this case. It was interesting enough. And in my opinion, I think both things might be true, there used to be a case of demonic possession, but there might be something else like a cover-up or a set-up that work in some parts of this story as well. Well, just a guess. I can never know the whole truth about it.

Beautiful Story in Japanese Comic Style
6 February 2024
I don't know why my latest review was declined and they could not give me a reason. So I want to try again here.

The movie is told in Japanese comic style, like you're reading a manga, so the acting might look a bit strange or overacted. But after you get used to that you'll find a beautiful story. I really like the theme of unselfish love. What Kairi did for Momojang are a lot of sincere and loving things that a person can do for another. He didn't even try to get her to be his girlfriend when he thought that she really liked someone else.

I think the cast perform well. The story is easy to follow. The music is so-so (they should have tried to use more slow and romantic song). Overall, it is a feel good movie, very funny at the beginning and more drama afterward. Not so outstanding but not bad either.

Excellent documentary movie, with hidden deeper meaning
5 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This film took me by surprise. I heard about the fire at Notre Dame that year but I didn't read a lot of details about it. The film pulled me into the event of that day and, honestly, I was so thrilled and scared and was so impressed at the same time. It's incredible how a documentary can be so exciting.

The beginning might look a little slow but I appreciate how it gives background about the church and let us see how popular it is among tourists. That small dramatic moment of the little girl trying so hard to donate her money and made a prayer in Notre Dame at the very last moment became a theme of faith and give the film a wonderful conclusion at the ending.

I think the film just honestly follow the situation and let us see points of view from different directions. I was routing for the firemen team because the movie shows clearly that they are in dangerous situation, working inside the old Cathedral. I also felt sympathy for the man who holds the key to the most important treasure. He tried so hard, tried his very best to get there, and the scene that they saved Jesus crown of thorns at the very last moment was such a thrill.

The part where doors seem to close by themselves and lock the firemen in, together with flashes of demonic rock decorations seem to point out that there are evil power involved in this fire. But at the ending, the whole city praying and singing hymns show us that at last God triumphed. Maybe this is His will after all, to get the people of Paris praying together.

Overall, it is a very outstanding documentary, beautifully-told, with a hidden beautiful theme of faith. Hat-off to the director. Thank you so much for producing it.

Boring documentary on an interesting subject
5 February 2024
Before I began watching, I was expecting to learn more about the mystery of black hole, maybe in a simplified language that ordinary people like me can understand, but what I found as I was watching it was a lot of people chatting, drinking coffee, looking at computers and chatting more.

I am not interested to learn about the people who are interested about the black hole, I want to know about the black hole! This is just absolutely boring, I agree with many reviews here. How do you expect the public to enjoy watching some scientists who are obsessed with a subject sitting in their office and talked the way they talked in daily life? What's the point of watching that?

There are few explanation of black hole done by computer graphic in this documentary, which I appreciate, but they were very few, comparing to those boring chatting moments.

By the way, after I finish watching it (fast forwarding a lot), I have a question in my mind. Yes, black hole is a true mystery of the universe. But...does learning and researching about it help humanity in anyway? Maybe learning about the core of teachings in some religions and practice deep meditation can help you more on that...without having to spend a huge amount of money just to satisfy your curiosity.
