Trouble Is My Business (2018)
Beautiful Noir
Trouble is My Business takes you back to the Sin City/Touch of Evil style world. A film Noir like no other. Beautifully filmed, acted and drawn out story entangles you in it's mystery. Not too many films like it these days and this one really stands out.
I really enjoyed the nonstop action and mystery that pulls you along. Worth a watch and re-watch in my books.
IMThem (2021)
Blurring the Lines - Comedy Thriller
This cool cerebral and complex film has some laughs and unique qualities. If you have seen Ant DeGennaro's other work like Sisterhood of Death or Cassavettes, you will see some of his welcome art style here.
He tends to mix very candid humor in with some horrific topics which breaks the 4th wall, but keeps you engaged nonetheless. I would say this film is an evolved version of his earlier work and really hammers home his abilities to deliver something uniquely interesting.
The Magic Island (2020)
Comedy Gold
A really hilarious comedy gem here! Pirates bamboozling each other in the midst of a horrific voyage full of cerebral checkpoints in one character's psychosis. We need more films like this.
Mandao Returns (2020)
Astral Success!
This Sci-Fi comedy was super refreshing to behold. I really enjoyed the lore of this story. Complete with a Mandao's ability to astral project through time!
The special effects were cool and engaging. Some brilliant comedic moments here and the whole premise is hilarious on it's own. I highly recommend this watch.
Rock, Paper, Scissors (2017)
Amazing Performance - Michael Madsen
If you haven't seen something starring Michael Madsen in a while, look no further. This film is really interesting. Packed full of mind melting twists and turns that keep you glued to your screen to understand it all. Michael Madsen is our welcome guide through the story and I have to say it was refreshing.
Eternal Code (2019)
Brilliant Sci-Fi Flick
Really enjoyed this film last night with my partner. It's really exciting to see a universe of characters who are all interacting in this fictional world surrounding a mysterious DNA discovery.
The cinematography adds an element of suspense to it and the action as it plays out. I recommend this sci-fi indie.
Turnover (2019)
Funny and Relatable
I loved this indie comedy, seeing a prominent actor who I've recognized over the years as the starring role was my first hook.
The story was the second hook for me, knowing friends who run family owned restaurants hit close to home. Making the mess involved with running a successful business and all the characters involved preventing that, all the more funnier. Check out this instant classic!
Sweet Sunshine (2020)
Country at Heart
I wanted to escape from the current Corona filled reality by watching something that was easy going and relatable.
This is a cool country song filled, heart warming story of fame, love and hardship as a star.
The Berlin Bride (2019)
Uniquely Mesmerizing
This film is of a different kind of caliber to the rest of the indie films you might check out these days. If you are into classic films in the same "class" of say Alfred Hitchcock then I think you will really enjoy The Berlin Bride.
I haven't seen a silent film like this EVER. And that is saying a lot already. The characters and the story have now burned themselves into my mind given how unique the story and film is told. Without too many spoilers, I'd say this is an instant classic and I didn't expect as much. Check it out!
