Tous les matins du monde (1991)
a blend of nature and art
Seeing this gem of a film again 13 years on was a revelation. Amazingly I recalled so much and dejavued my way through it . Sometimes you find melodies and tunes that is like music of the spheres, the blissful sound of an ethereal and divine sound delivered by an instrument, in this case the gamba. Seeing the film now on DVD on a when I want to- basis I also use it to teach myself french by avoiding English subtitles. Somehow the Hellenistic triangle of the good, the true and the beautiful melts together . That happens rarely but certainly happens here. The acting of Depardieu pere et fils is superb, the photography and imagery is stunning, and no one with a heart will forget the melancholy harmonies and the modest but lovely storyline. But for DVD I could have longed for my reunion with this treasure chest for years. Now I and my loved ones own it for all the evenings in the world. Go for it.
Molière (1978)
Moliere, a writer for all seasons
Seeing this masterpiece for the first time since 1980 I was amazed how many scenes I remembered from first time on. The acting is stunning, the spoken french is beautiful and subtitles are excellent, the imagery is beautiful, the creative process and growth and courage of the artist has never been shown better on screen. To all you that read this buy it (I got it through french amazon)and give it to friends and enemies ,lovers, family members etc. This is a film that will be talked about and seen a hundred years from now. It deserves recognition as a true masterpiece. To think that such brave men 350 years ago dared to speak up for what they believed in and expressing it through art should be a lesson to us all, especially todays makers of trash and time-wasting "entertainment. Moliere will truly lift your spirit
