Chicago Party Aunt (2021)
As a Midwesterner
I found this very show very funny and on point. If you don't get it, just move on. It's not that it's not a great funny show, it's just not for you. Spending a ton of time partying in Chicago and Wrigleyville, I found so many laughs in this. The voices are great and I love the animation and recognizable landmarks and restaurants. Even spent time on a rooftop watching a cubby game. So I guess my point is, not every show is for everyone and just because you don't understand the humor, does not by any means make it not funny. You and Andy Richter can just step off. And don't accept any brownies from him.
The Donor Party (2023)
Why?
This movie was mindless entertainment. Not awful, just not great. Lots of good actors.
One giant complaint is the soundtrack is SO LOUD thru most of the movie it's really distracting and sometimes overshadows the actors words. Who ever edited this did a HORRENDOUS JOB. I really don't understand how this was released in this state because it's brutally apparent how terrible and inconsistent the sound is. I'm not sure if they just started editing and saw how bad the movie was so just gave up and didn't spend anymore time or money on it. Again it's a shame because I like a lot of the actors and was looking for a mindless movie to watch however having to turn the volume up and down just to get through the movie. Do better.
The Strays (2023)
Very Interesting and Different
A lot of people hating on this movie maybe just didn't get it or have been indoctrinated by cookie cutter Hollywood productions or remakes that fall flat. This movie makes you uncomfortable in a good way. And it didn't even have to be made about a black family though that adds another complex layer to this film.
A mother leaving her family as opposed to fathers who seem to get a pass is the real crux of this movie.. Revenge from children coming back from the past and the dilemma of guilt and not wanting to call the authorities on your own estranged children because of that guilt. Then in the end, taking the easy way out. Again. Give it a chance. It's quite an interesting film.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Surprised at the ratings
I like Nick Cage but boy this was soooo effing boring I couldn't finish it. I don't know how stoned you have to be rate higher than 2 but I don't have the lung capacity. I could have been a really funny movie but it's just cheap action that is poorly acted and calling it a comedy is a travesty.
America's Court with Judge Ross (2010)
Cringe Watching
This show is really good for cringe watching at best. The plaintiffs and defendants are always terrible actors. Interesting reviews on this show are also fun to read. Surely no one thinks this is real.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018)
Morality and Desperation
As a person who has been affected by ageism and fraud, I find this film fascinating. McCarthy's acting is incredibly real and it shows how far someone will go to put a roof over their head. It's a mirror on society, especially now. I was very empathetic to the downtrodden characters and found the film moving and poignant.
The Outsider (2020)
Only finished it because I already devoted too much time
I was excited to see Jason Bateman was involved then they killed him off and it just kept trickling down the hill slower and slower. I kept waiting for the good stuff that never came. They could have wrapped this stinker up in 5 episodes.
My Friend Dahmer (2017)
Same age as Dahmer, grew up in Milwaukee
This film really does a fine job with casting, heart-felt honesty acting and most of the authenticity of that era. Here's my but; the music was wrong. Please play the music of the era. I'll buy and enjoy the graphic novel. I lived in his neighborhood and am the same age as he would have been. Definitely suffered a mental illness. Almost feel sorry for him.
The F**k-It List (2020)
Seems almost intentional
To make characters this unlikable. Not sure if the casting, the writing, the editing, the directing or a combination of them all made this movie so bad. The lead is supposed to have a high IQ? Not believable. This movie missed its mark on so many levels. It really could have been an inspirational, funny and entertaining movie however it just emphasizes how sh!tty entitled teens can be. Oh and the music? So annoying!
The Favourite (2018)
Why is the Music So Loud?
I'm still trying to get through this film and it's entertaining so far however the score volume is SO LOUD to the point of being crass sometimes. It's super annoying, distracting and irritating! If that was intentional (and I suppose it was) it makes this movie almost unwatchable. Just toned down a little bit would have made this picture so much better. Stop it. The score doesn't need to be a "character" if all other aspects of the films making are strong,
Still Standing (2002)
Great Show
I love the show and I love the theme song. I sing along every time.
Mark Addy is a genius and totally amazing how he changed his accent to 'Chicago'. Jamie Gertz is so cool too. The kids were all cast magnificently. They are all so different yet play off each other so well that it is believable they are siblings.
The writing is great too. The parents are of my era so I can relate to the rock concerts, being cool. smoking weed, catching the kids sneaking out, etc. I can also relate to the smart kid and the girl trying to find herself.
I love this show and I hope it stays on for a long, long time.
