Frasier: The Good Father (2023)
There is a live studio audience ... The laughter is NOT canned
I don't understand why people think they've put in a fake laugh track. There is a live studio audience. Just like when The Big Bang Theory was on. My brother and sister-in-law went to a taping in Hollywood and were part of a similar audience of TBBT. That being said, during one of new Frasier episodes, there were several overeager audience members being overly loud when the jokes weren't particularly funny.
Ok - about the show. I would say that "relief" is the best word that came to mind. Is it perfect? No. Just like S1 of the original Frasier, it took a while for the characters to gel together. For being the first two shows with a mostly new cast in the new Frasier, I think they did great.
I have high hopes for Frasier 2.0. Maybe "And Just Like That" can hire these writers for when they have spare time. This new Frasier "feels" like the old one, whereas many of the characters in AJLT seemed to have had frontal lobotomies during the last 20 years (Miranda, anyone?)
Kelsey, thanks for staying true to the story of Frasier. I'm betting that by Episode 5, this is going to feel fully baked, and let's hope this can last for many years.
Frasier: The Doctor Is Out (2003)
This may be one of sitcom's best half-hour, of any show, EVER
"The Doctor is Out" is perhaps the best Frasier episode of the entire series, and one of the funniest half-hours in television sitcom history. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say that every joke is absolutely hysterical. The casting of Patrick Stewart is spot on, and the writing is IMPECCABLE.
This is a must-see episode. If you have to pick one Frasier episode to watch out of all of them, this would be it.
BRAVO!!!
Frasier: Door Jam (2003)
One of the best Frasier episodes ever
I'd give this a score of 11 if I could. This episode is simply hilarious, and it is soooo Frasier and Niles. The writing, the jokes, the typical "Nothing is good enough" attitude that the two brothers have is just classic, as is David Hyde Pierce's physical comedy at the end.
By the way, reviewer Hitchcoc at this point isn't enjoying the shows at all, so he might as well stop watching them. While I agree that the quality of Frasier suffered a lot in Season 9 and perhaps part of Season 10 , "Door Jam" is an absolutely 5 gold-star Frasier episode.
In summary, this is a MUST SEE!
Frasier: Mother Load: Part 1 (2002)
One of the worst Frasier episodes
I agree with Hitcoc. Daphne's family coming to town is hard to watch, what with their rude behavior, drunkenness and smoking. This is one of my least favorite episodes, and dang, it's a two-parter even!
Frasier: Something About Dr. Mary (2000)
Very racially (and generally) insensitive looking through the lens of 2021 - but really funny
I don't want to sound racially insensitive but this episode is hilarious. However, it makes me squirm at the same time. It's easy to see how race plays an issue in this (especially with Frasier's impersonation of a black female), but also the way the episode makes fun of Chuck (the guy with the speech impediment). It also reminds me of just how lily white Frasier was, although it's one of my favorite sitcoms. This episode would really not fly in 2021. That being said, if we watch it through the lens of 1999/2000, it's awfully funny and Kim Coles absolutely nails it!
