In the Shadows (2001)
I don't know where to begin. There are so many......
I watched this film with anticipation. Could it get better, could it get any worse? Well the answer was NO on both counts.
Cuba Gooding was obviously NOT a bad guy. Matthew Modine was wooden and not a sympathetic character AT ALL. James Caan usually looks good and he lived up to that...though his character was a blank piece of paper, no life, no substance.
The array of Familia were cookie cuttered, I couldn't keep track of who was who. I finally started naming them bad guy in the limo, bad guy looks like Sinatra, bad guy stool pigeon and big fat bad guy.
If it promised to be a mob movie, it failed. If it promised to be a love story.....ewwww.
If it was meant to be a behind the scenes stunt movie....I can't go on...the best I can say is James Caan usually looks good.So I gave it a 2.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Very true to the book ....so far
I sat in a multiplex theater....down near the front as all the higher seats were taken already. We went on Day 1 and had purchased our tickets online 2 weeks ahead. When we got there we found 4 theaters had the film and all 4 were sold out for the next 2 showings!
Well in this theater of about 200 young, younger and very young Potter fans.....there was not a sound. It was fascinating and mesmerizing. There were no crying babies, no popcorn fights, nothing but rapt attention.
The film is so true to the book that it's almost eerie. Every new scene you could see people pointing at the screen and nodding "yes!"
I had read the book, but my husband had not. He was able to follow the plot easily, but I believe he would have enjoyed it more if he had read it first.
Go ahead. See it. It's pretty darn good.
The African Queen (1951)
Fabulous
This is my all time, most absolutely favorite movie ever!! I believe it has a little of everything. Danger! Excitement! War! Drought! Storms and more!
LEECHES!! Ooooooh I hate the leaches, and I tell Mr Allnut every single time NOT to get them, but does he listen? No! I often wonder if the fact that I was 7 when I saw this had any influence on the rest of my life.
I still hate leeches.
Pay It Forward (2000)
Splendid, just splendid
I laughed and I cried. This was a really moving and inspiring movie. Hunt, Spacey and Osment were just perfect. I would recommend it to everyone. And I recommend you have a hanky near by.
