K-PAX (2001)
Boring, melodramatic, no direction.
I thought this was the worst Kevin Spacey has made. It has a few clever lines in it, and a few scenes designed to provide a little momentary surprise, but they never go anywhere and seem like cheap tricks to try to keep interest.
This is a movie in search of an identity, with little consistency. Very few clues were offered for the central plot of the movie, 'is he an alien or not'. And of course the ones offered are contradictory. I admit the possibility that maybe I just didn't understand the movie, but it seems to me right now that it's a movie comprised of seemingly disconnected events. I should have made better use of my time as my wife did, she fell asleep about halfway through.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Everyone in the fam loves it!
One of the best movies I've seen, and one of only a few I am willing to watch more than once. The kids have even watched it more than me. The pacing is slow but constant and the tone it sets pulls you in from the start.
There's Something About Mary (1998)
Refreshingly different.
In a time where everybody is going out of their way to be offended, it was nice to see someone has the courage to do something creative and different. Not the same old strained vegetables that seems to dominate most comedies, and not the murder-death-kill formula so many movies depend upon either. This is refreshingly amusing.
National Lampoon's Favorite Deadly Sins (1995)
Very funny and fast moving.
All three skits were pretty good and fast moving. However, in the middle short, the Dice man was in true form doing what he does best. He is an underrated comedic actor. His piece gives him the chance to do stand-up in a story setting and he is great at that. If you like Dice Man, then you'll love his piece.
The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990)
Great movie!
This is some of the best stuff Dice has done. It has action, tons of laughs and shows off Dice's acting as well as his more serious and sensitive side. But he still manages to use that hilarious persona which is his trademark, at just the right times in the movie. As usual his timing is perfect. I wish he would make another one like this.
