The Suicide Squad (2021)
Worst DC movie yet.
Dreadful movie from start to finish by a man who liked to talk about children often on social media.
Bumblebee (2018)
Awful waste of time.
I'm a massive transformers fan but this is a terrible movie. The writer, Christina hodson is an out and out feminist and self inserted herself in this movie from her own words.
The human characters are boring. The male decepticon is a subordinate character following orders from a female decepticon. When they first transform he decides to kill a guy for no reason.
The action is good but there's some cringey stuff like the beta male friend and the weird romantic vibe they tried to give the girl with bumblebee. Also a girl nor any human should be naming a centuries old transformer, that was an awful decision.
You'll see old fans swindled by the Cybertron scenes and the soundtrack but this is legitimately the worst entry into the live action series.
Superman: Red Son (2020)
Great overall with a hint of woke.
I enjoyed the story and how it played out. Wonder woman was changed to woke woman for this and it's a strange change but Batman giving her a whupping was pretty cool.
The second strange decision is Superman throws a punch at an aged wonder woman and she catches it and he doesn't follow it up and just lets her leave. Including wonder woman seemed really pointless tbh she served no real point other than to say gay people exist in the story.
It's the second time they've inserted a woke idea into dcau continuity with hush having the wokest of Catwoman in it. It's not facing much backlash because most people aren't paying for it but WB and DC are going down a woke route that will end up in disaster. Stop now while you've the chance wb and DC.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge (2020)
Does ok
The movie starts incredibly well but unfortunately that's where it ends. The plot could have went more towards the story of Scorpion and give us the once a generation story but it shoe horns in liu Kang, Johnny cage and Sonya. The three of them are really unnecessary here and Sonya blade is way too over powered, so much so she fights midway through the movie and it was so unrealistic it took me right out of the movie.
Had the story focused on Scorpion and him moving through the tournament it would have been more cohesive. He has a fight with Sub-Zero and it's extremely anticlimactic. Disappointed.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
I appreciate the redesign but...
The movie starts really well and it's fairly exciting with consequences set up early on.
What happens next is typical Hollywood in that they forget what the title of the movie is and shoe horn in a bad human story. I don't understand the need for movies to pay multiple actors like the girlfriend in this movie, she could have easily been removed as she added nothing and they could have saved three paychecks there with that character.
It's hard to like James Marsden as he seems to play characters as really soft. His Cyclops was a really poor beta and he left that role to be a third wheel beta in Superman returns. He then plays a beta robot in Westworld and here he is again as a beta character. His story is pretty poor and it could have and should have been more streamlined to fit Sonic in.
Carrey gives a good performance and that's about it really, he delves back into Riddler and Grinch territory but it's ok.
It's tough to say this as I know he's a fan of the character but the voice of Sonic just doesn't fit, it sounds like John mulaney's character of Andrew from big mouth. I don't understand why they didn't use Roger Craig Smith.
Sons of Anarchy (2008)
Greatest tv show of all time.
This show is fantastic from beginning to end. Everyone gets what they deserve in this show and it doesn't suffer the same silliness of other shows with certain characters getting away with things constantly while others face the music.
When they go to Ireland there was some poor attempts at Irish accents used, expected in an American production really, but it doesn't distract too much from a wonderful series overall.
Brilliant characters, brilliant acting and my joint favourite show of all time.
Jax is an outstanding lead supported by incredible characters. Loved it. Watch it and spread the word.
Sons MC.
Better Call Saul (2015)
Never liked the character Saul, I watch it for Mike.
I was never really a fan of the character in Breaking Bad and never understood why people liked him. To me he was a small character in a massive show with other players having far more interesting characteristics about them.
I was surprised he got a spin off purely because if anyone was to get one it would have been Mike or Gustavo Fring in my opinion, the cop turned heavy and the chicken man who's secretly a kingpin. Fortunately they turn up but their story comes only in snippets.
Saul is frustratingly slow with very little to progress Jimmy to Saul the way Walt turns to Heisenberg. Walt to Heisenberg was a drastic change that was made by the horrendous things he did and was forced to do. Saul is basically fully formed when we meet him and doesn't really alter that much until the latest season when he puts out the trademark cringe adverts. It drags even more with the addition of Kim Wexler who's so monotone and wooden that she's way out of place. She's probably supposed to be wooden to contrast to Saul's liveliness but it's just such a wooden role that it's truly a slog watching her.
The cartel side story is ok but again that's very slow.
To me they should have left it at Breaking Bad and not have gone further. Doing a prequel with visibly aging actors is off-putting too.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
A weird revision.
It's surprising to note the writer and director of this movie was also involved in X-Men 3: The Last Stand which clearly shows kinberg has some fascination with the Phoenix character.
The movie suffered from bad writing and marketing with the wokemen idea of Jennifer Lawrence telling Xavier it should be called the xwomen because they do the saving, must have missed when Scott steadied the shuttle, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver saved the astronauts etc. Xavier is treated weirdly in this movie, he's talked down to by mystique, Jean and Storm. Bit of a trend.
Cyclops spends most of the time shouting "Jean". In fairness to Sheridan he's supposed to be a young Marsden and Marsden played Cyclops as a kitten which again is strange because the character is the field leader and second in command of the X-Men after Xavier. I suppose that's consistent at least movie wise.
It was nice for Lawrence as mystique to be killed early on to be honest but they sat the wonderful Evan Peters as Quicksilver out of the movie and didn't really explain why.
Bafflingly they rename the school the Jean Grey school which is an absolute insult to fans, in the comics wolverine changed the school name when everyone else had pretty much gone away and he was left to his own devices.
Fassbender and McAvoy have been wonderful as young versions of Magneto and Xavier respectively. Fassbender was very underused in this movie I thought as his scenes were easily the best and the movie should have included him more. Fassbender is/was a wonderful Magneto and he really conveys that force of nature that the character is in the comics.
It's not as bad as apocalypse but there's a lot of woke ideas like the aforementioned comments, everyone Jean defeats at the end is a white man before focusing on the Chastain character, see?
I'm not really looking forward to what Marvel do with this in the MCU as I suspect they will race and gender swap a lot of characters.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Perfect, a piece of art.
Another Guy Ritchie masterpiece. Farrell using his natural accent was brilliant. Hunnam is great and Hugh Grant is a scene stealer in a performance that should have won him many awards.
Top stuff from Guy.
