The Retirement Plan (2023)
Hideous with hints of humor
I'll start off by stating Nick Cage is in a desperate free fall for cash. He has been in some AWEFUL films in the past but this one nearly takes the cake. From the first seen and the over emotion by the lead actress, I knew this wasn't meant to be a serious film. I then turned my mind to oh this must be sort of an action comedy, and in my opinion it is. The staging of scenes is choppy, and the F word is so abundantly used it made me chuckle often. There are some decent actors and actresses in it from well done films of the past and they do a good job, yet I've put Jackie back into sub par actor category. If have super free time and don't mind watching Nick do some of his classic verbiage and hand movements, watch it, other than that skip it, you'll save brain cells, and maintain your IQ.
Into the Forest (2015)
City girls stuck in forest
Ok...I did my best with this film. Much of it I agree with. The lack of knowledge of the girls and the frankly the father astounds me. I would have struggled also, but day by day would have worked to improve the home if I could and hunt for food. If that didn't work I would have set out to find a society to live amongst. The acting I'd good, and the forest is beautiful. I can imagine that this would happen in many areas of the world...so dependent on stores and technologies. Most humans are no longer taught or trained to survive with basic necessities any longer. I believe that is what the movie was attempting to teach the viewer. Thank you.😉👍🏼
La guerre du feu (1981)
Lost Gem
Ignore the comments rating this film 1-3, they have no idea what it takes to make a film of this caliber. I saw this first when it was released with a friend. It was captivating to me and enjoyed the fact that a director and creator of such a film could explain a world no one has ever seen before nor know what it was really even like 80000 years ago. It delves deep into the human being and what we are like AS humans, in many ways I don't believe we are much different today. I watched it again in the 2000's somewhere, and then again today 2023. It is still as amazing as it was when it was released.
It was way ahead of its time, and in the 1980's we as kids were ordered not to view it, it was taboo, and many Boomers were offended by its very existence. Tackling man's issues has always been a tough go, but this covers many of them and most can learn a great deal from this film.
My hats off to picture makers, this should be brought back out and showed worldwide, cleaned up resolution wise, but shown today.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Resplendent!
I have viewed this film since it's release probably 10 times. It has such richness and brokenness all intertwined that leads to a warm gorgeous conclusion. I relate personally to this film and understand it thoroughly. People are broken, people are doing their best every day to find love, to find wholeness and this film shows the pieces it takes to get life back on track and together. ALL of the actors are excellent and so genuine. What a believable real life story. I can almost imagine me being a side player in this down to earth family story. Thank you for this film, it has enriched my life!
Felon (2008)
Pretty darn good film
I watched this several years after if was made. In my opinion it's believable. I can see due to the reasons the police explained how a man can be charged with murder, even though he was burglarized. I like all the acting and the way it was choreographed. Something about still keeps me coming back to watch it again from time to time. I provoked feelings of empathy for the main actor and his family, and the struggles it takes to just create a family in this world. The background score is good, and I have the feeling there is extreme corruption in the prison system in our country. I never noticed and still don't notice the jumping camera thing that everyone is talking about in 1-3 ratings for this film. Great film!
Cobra Kai (2018)
Still watching but here goes
Liked the first season very much. Had that old KK feel from the original film. Finished the second season. Now knowing all the characters, Danny and Johnny are still the only two I have any feelings for. I could care less about the kids. I love the music, and nostalgic references etc., but the rivalry crap just goes too far. I was wanting so much to have a television show/series that I could actually love again but I guess it's not meant to be. I haven't really watched TV type shows for over 15 years other than Big Bang Theory. I'm going to continue watching, but I don't hold high hopes for it. Good luck everyone with your opinions of it, it's just not realistic enough for me.
Freaks and Geeks (1999)
Best 80s Tv show not filmed during the 80s
Fantastic cast, realistic storylines and music blending in at perfect times. Like My So Called Life, too good for TV! Hit too close to home for too many folks I suppose. The show probably didn't make it for 2 reasons, it was an hour long, peoples attention spans on TV for comedies and sci fi can't make it past a half hour. Like Twilight Zone (the original), when they switched to hour long episodes it almost killed the show. Second, many of the actors in the show had such talent, they were offered roles in good films soon after the airing of the show. It was outstanding though and am proud to own all the episodes.😉👍🏼😕
The Giant Mechanical Man (2012)
Great feel good movie
This film is hugely underrated. It's very real to life, and makes you feel like a million bucks when it concludes. Great performances by all actors! The points made in the film about the common struggles in life are very understandable. Must see if you have ever been to Europe and seen street performers.
Unseen (2019)
Thurston's Review
Very professionally done. The social media seen in the background mirrors was genius! Reminiscent of Whistle Blower, and Taken. Very realistic. Stats at the end left me wanting to do something about the global issue, actually always have wanted to. May this atrocity be condemned (sex slavery).
