Within (2005)
I'm not sure what the guy above was smoking but this is good
Crap Con. above probably frequents Michael Jackson's fun house. This movie was pretty decent, unlike that p.o.s. The Cave which was an over-produced pile of ass that doesn't deserve to be called a horror movie. The camera work was interesting and I'll agree a bit like The Blair Witch, but interesting nonetheless. The director definitely conveys a sense of tension and paced the movie quite well, since there is rarely a slow moment. The ending was interesting though I don't think it was the best "explanation". Don't get me wrong, this movie is well worth watching. It is one of the better horror movies I've seen this year. The gore effects have to be in homage to the early works of Peter Jackson, even the foley sound effects are reminiscent of Bad Taste/Dead Alive.
It seems there have a been a handful of cave movies in the horror genre in the past year. The Cave is by far the worst of them - you'd be better off watching The Boogens while sitting on the lap of a felon. The Cavern is damn good though it lacks in a few areas. The Descent is by far the best of these movies even though it starts off really slow.
A Crack in the Floor (2001)
Busey vs. the universe
For the five minutes of screen time Busey gets he takes cinema to new heights. I want to live at that gas station. Slater is pretty good but the Busey scene alone is enough to make the viewer kill themselves since life no longer serves a purpose. The rest of the movie is pretty forgettable.
Since I am obliged to fill out ten lines of text for this comment, I leave you with:
Busey will molest your life.
Period.
Seriously.
The Dead Come Home (1989)
A very solid and entertaining B movie indeed
This movie has some solid qualities that make it stand out far from the slew of 80's horror movies. If you like campy horror films with a sense of humor, then go find yourself a copy of this movie. I think the characters are a good mix of personalities. The action is kind of lame at first but picks up towards the end and the gore is half decent. This is a classic B movie entry that I had never heard of, nor knew anyone that has seen it. Troma bought the rights to it though they did not produce it. I hope it makes its way onto DVD.
For being a practically unknown movie, it definitely delivers entertainment. Even though I wouldn't consider it a serious horror movie, I think it does a lot of things better than the so called serious horror movies.
