Bad Timing (1980)
3 stars
Well, certainly a macabre movie with little sense and therefore intriguing; which is what I think the producer wanted to convey. However, the cinematography is excellent and the leading and supporting cast is good. Art Garfunkel slips effortlessly in the character of a sexy psychoanalyst who loses his grip on things when he falls in love(or whatever it's called here) with a care-free,adventurous young woman (Theresa Russel). He feels threatened by her power over him and tries to hide it from her. Also to be noted is the performance of Harvey Keitel in his younger acting days. Altogether a good European production worth watching.
Miami Blues (1990)
3 stars
The movie is your regular action-comedy but features Alec Baldwin at his very best. The plot is centered around the character of an ex-convict/conman (played by Alec)who's just been out of jail and keen on doing some serious catching-up even if it costs him an arm or a leg (or the fingers). Jennifer Jason Leigh plays a naive prostitute who while mixing business with pleasure falls in love with Alec and vows to be his faithful wife until death do them part.
Homo Faber (1991)
Five Stars
I give Homo Faber 5/5, it captivates from the start. The movie is set in some beautiful places namely (France, Germany, South America and Italian countryside)which does justice to its aka title "Voyager." A carefully structured plot which unravels beautifully with a touch of adventure, nostalgia and mystique. Sam Shepard really shines in this role. The rest of the cast is up to the job.
