Minority Report (2002)
A Disappointment
Although I'm sure I'll be in the "minority" here, I found this film extremely unsatisfying. CGI abounds (money has obviously been spent) but the plot holes and under-developed characters left me flat. Also, where was the suspense? The denouement was predictable. In the end, the "look" of the film was the only thing that held my interest. Two out of five stars.
Cast Away (2000)
Acting Tour De Force
In Cast Away, Tom Hanks delivers a powerful performance which virtually defines the film, a tale of a man literally stripped bare of his societal pretensions. Hanks is a premiere performer and his work in this film definitely deserved an academy award. Of course, the "oscars" have rarely reflected the "best" that there is to offer in films. Fortunately, Tom Hanks is an artist who surely realizes his best reward is in the work he does. Comments that the movie is "boring" depress me. Would viewers have preferred to see Daryll Hannah wash up on the island?
The Pad (and How to Use It) (1966)
moving story of innocence lost
The Pad is a touching story, set in the swinging sixties, of a sensitive young man whose psychological innocence is destroyed when he meets and makes a date with a vapid young woman who becomes interested in his playboy co-worker. The final scenes are heart-breaking and unforgettable. Somewhat dated, but recommended.
