Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Pointless
In the first half of the movie I couldn't even find the conflict. It has the look and feel of a sitcom. The actors are constantly winking at the audience like some tired vaudeville act. The acting was atrocious. The story atrocious. More mixed up morality. I'm not the only one. I've spoken to several friends that turned it off after five minutes.
The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun (2021)
I must be ignernt
I couldn't stay awake. To me it wasn't funny or interesting. I might just try watching paint dry if this gets a 7.4 rating. Granted, I fell asleep for at least a quarter of the film.
The Card Counter (2021)
Incessant narration, mixed up morality, pandering, inauthentic
My title says all that I want to say. The money that was used to make this should have just been used for something better. There is a real authenticity gap between modern films and material that can be viewed on YouTube. I should have spent the 20 dollars on a video game.
Once Upon a Time in America (1984)
Way overrated
Inauthentic scenes from the early years. Awkwardly acted. Poorly edited. Ridiculous sound track. Absurd.
The Thin Red Line (1998)
Too much overwrought narrative
I'm sorry to disagree with the masses but this film had a lot of typical war tropes with a tremendous amount of wondering, self-wondering, life wondering narrative. The narrative was the antithesis of Capt Willard's poetic economical narrative in Apocalypse Now. The film was full of cliches. The sappy flashback scenes of his wife swinging made me want to vomit. Sorry but the ratings are wrong.
Mank (2020)
Very slow.
Sorry, I don't see the compelling story here. The cinematography is very good and the acting is fine but the self indulgent thumb of the nose to narrative pacing really bothered me. I'm writing this at an hour eleven into this and I can barely keep it on. I love Gary Oldman, one of my favorites. Without him, we get a lot of "sunlight through blinds artistically lighting me in suspenders speaking quick banter.
Rogue (2020)
Sad and pathetic
Acting directing story... worthless. I want my money back
The Square (2017)
Avoid films that begin with a brag about a Palme d'or
I'm sorry but this was slow and boring and really not that fascinating. Maybe I just don't understand the Swedish sense of humor. It's a 2 and a half hour film and I'm writing this approximately an hour into it. Couldn't they have found a better way to make superficial observations about the human condition? I'm sure the art crowd that watched it and loved the commentary on the state of modern art loved the self-raking humor. Sorry but the emperor has no clothes. It's already fading...........
Bit (2019)
Writing this bad should be illegal
Sadly this film was marketed as comedy/horror. That is simply not the case. There is barely a glint of humor in this vibeless, disjointed, train wreck of an attempt at filmmaking. At the time of watching I didn't realize that the protagonist was trans. Her acting was actually not bad. In fact the writing was so bad it was close to impossible to judge the merits of the actors. The plot was threadbare, the point of view of the characters was incomprehensible. The antagonist does not show up until very late in the film. The pacing was horrible. This film lacks any redeeming qualities. I feel like I was had by the trailer.
Knives Out (2019)
Equivalent of a Made for TV Movie
Completely overrated. The acting is abysmal. Lots of ridiculous plot lines that barely make sense. Has more the look and feel of a TV show. This is my first review and I essentially signed up on IMDB because of the horrible movies receiving high ratings.
