The Punisher (2004)
Ugh
Only slightly better than that last memorable Travolta debacle "Starship Earth" or whatever the heck that Hubbard fiasco was called. This movie gets real campy at the end - splitting a guy's head with a papercutter? Besides - where are the cops the whole time these two are blowing each other's families. Not a plausible script, but then again, let's not let that get in the way of wholesale mayhem.... Travolta plays an okay bad guy (surprise, surprise!). But without giving away the whole story line, don't you think he would realize that maybe his best friend in the whole world was really gay? Come on! Not an inkling? But that your wife of 25 years is fooling around with your best (gay) friend...oh yeah, that is believable.
If it is the only movie at the video store, go ahead and rent it, but if there is a copy of 'Heidi' or 'Sound of Music', they are at least more believable.
Band of Brothers (2001)
One of the best WWII movies ever...
I saw this HBO mini-series in 2001. I was fortunate enough that my local library had a copy of it (with a 2 month waiting list) and viewed it again. This Christmas, my daughter bought me the whole CD version and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It is one of those movies that the more you watch it the more you enjoy it. Do yourself a favor and buy the CD, it is worth every penny of the $70..... especially if it is a gift!!!!!
Battlefield Earth (2000)
Bad Movie
This is one of the worse movies I have ever (tried to) watch. It was painful. It isn't even worth watching as a diversion. Even JT couldn't save this movie. I am not sure what the message is that L. Ron Hubbard was trying to relay to us with this movie, but whatever the message was - it was lost.
Hannibal (2001)
Pretty Good
Having read the book - and not being particularly impressed with it - I had not been in a hurry to see the movie. However, I was surprised that the movie was probably better than the book. The plot was different than the book, i.e. Verger's sister wasn't included in the movie and I thought she confused the plot in the book. The ending was entirely different than the book - and it was a better ending than the book. As a whole, I thought the movie was a 6 or 7 out of 10. A movie worth seeing, but not spending $8 to see it at the movie. Worthy of a rental....
Where Eagles Dare (1968)
Great movie
I saw this movie as a kid, and loved it. It is still my favorite WWII movie of all time - and I love all the war movies! Great plot, great twists, beautiful scenery, great action, Burton, Eastwood (very young) what more could you want! Next time you are in the cheap section at Blockbuster, take it home for an enjoyable winter's afternoon entertainment.
Net Worth (1995)
A great movie for people who love hockey.
This movie goes beyond the game, into the seamier side of sports. The backroom deals and exploitation of the early NHL and those players that were brave enough (and smart enough) to change the game. This movie also explains why some of those men in the Hockey Hall of Fame did more to be in the HOF than just play hockey. A great movie if you are a hockey lover.
