Death of a Cheerleader (2019)
Lame
Things were so much better in the 90's and films and TV series are no exception at all, and this movie is a great example. The directing in this is confusing and just really... bad. The cinematography is also pretty poor quality and makes it a bit of an effort to watch. Just so many ways this movie did the original film wrong compels me to write this review. I just can't stress enough the directing and director assistants must have been checked out or just not good at their job.
Anyway, I regret watching this. I want the last hour of my life back so I thought that I would at least warn others.
Charmed (2018)
Ugh
I don't even know where to start with this. It started out okay, but quickly turned into a cheap re-make of the original. I looked through the cast and it quickly became apparent that with Andrew Hopkins working on this was a huge detriment. His past films have been downright awful. When I saw his name, everything clicked for me and I had to leave a warning for everyone else. Please stay away from this film, and perhaps anything else that's made with his assistance.
Aside from that, it was a decently watchable film for the average joe. I was happy to see the two children were at least enjoying the movie while we quietly chatted.
Snow Falls (2023)
Snow Falls flat
This movie starts off with beautiful drone visuals, but it quickly turns into something as if a group of film students rented an Airbnb and had the collective thought of making a movie about being stuck there in a snow storm. For being a movie filmed entirely in one setting, the occasional shots of the trees outside doesn't help the story when they're all bare. I especially love the one scene after someone dies and they go outside and it's calm, then quickly switches to harsh blowing snow that is very obviously a filter they applied post-processing.
Lastly and most importantly, this film projects a misinformed understanding of hypothermia. But perhaps it's true when you, and everyone around you, is a moron.
Men (2022)
Men is a psychological horror
This is my take on it, having dealt with a relationship that went very similarly before and after separation. I thought early on in this movie the antagonist showed clear signs of having borderline personality disorder. Being so afraid of abandonment that you threaten suicide, violating your partners boundaries by looking through their phone, and physical violence when you don't get your way are all consistent with BPD.
As the movie progresses and she moves to further her separation with him, the new character that's introduced (all played by the same actor) is meant to represent fallout of leaving a person with BPD in psychological terms. Classically these are all flying monkeys from the wizard of oz and all play their own unique role in tormenting her. As she becomes more and more firm with his departure, the flying monkeys become more and more desperate and ridiculous, as shown in the last scene. They (which is actually just him, the original antagonist) are just tormenting the protagonist as this is what people with BPD do when their partner finally decides enough is enough. In the very last scene, this is even confirmed when he says that all he wants is her love.
As having dealt with more than one person with BPD romantically, this sort of psychological torment matches quite appropriately with this movie. The gory scenes are parallel with the type of emotions one can go through when dealing with it as well.
Morbius (2022)
I loved it
I personally thought the movie is great. My favourite part is when Morbius says, "it's morbing time" and goes berserk. The only thing that would make me more excited about it is if there's going to be a sequel, that would be so awesome.
Choose or Die (2022)
The only horror movie to ever make me gag
Absolutely brilliant concept. Plot is very well done and acting is solid. I hope more 1980's themed video game story movies are made. I love horror movies and gore is just weird to me but this movie was so visceral and real that I was gagging in certain scenes. Quite disturbing indeed.
Nobody (2021)
Saul Goodman was always the real mastermind
But honestly it's a great movie with fantastic actors.
How It Ends (2018)
How it Ends doesn't really end
B-grade movie throughout, but the ending was so bad. It's like the writer just gave up at that point and said "I'm done! Let's close it off with one brief hopeful sentence." What a waste of a movie to go through all that and give it the most abrupt stupid ending. UGH!
Serena Waits (2018)
Don't bother
Filmed from an iphone with no real story, and the cherry on the cake is the atrocious "actor" charles chudabala. He takes the cake of worst actor of all time.
She Dies Tomorrow (2020)
Boring as all hell
Thought it might be good, but got extremely bored. Literally nothing happens in this movie. It's not "so bad it's good" it's just plain boring!
Irrational Fear (2017)
Lazy writing, terrible acting
Where to begin? I enjoy movies with low reviews. Low enough to be amusing, but this is just brutal. Poorly developed characters is one thing, but it's another to focus on one and then kill them off with no explanation, then focus again on another undeveloped character who clearly has no acting experience outside of highschool drama class. Nothing is really explained or revealed other than the doctor being the bad guy. Furthermore, the doctor is the one who has the worst acting skills to the extent of being a cringy redditor tipping his fedora. From one who loves bad movies, this one is so bad that it's unwatchable. Avoid.
