Casino (1995)
great film
From another reviewer about Joe Pesci: "He can act but he isn't all that good in the bad guy role. I dunno it just wasn't that good. It isn't worth the buy." Huh? Are you OK? Pesci is the perfect bad guy, and the film borders on perfection in my book. I love Rickles cast as the manager, and his joke about the private jet problems, "Hey, better down here than up there, you know what I mean". Pescis' scene rousting the 2 hoods inside the Tangiers is just typical of his acumen as an actor. The final scene of Sharon Stones' demise backed by the over-echoed Animals song "House of the Rising Sun" is sheer brilliance. Solid 9/10.
Tormented (1960)
Good thriller
Made in 1960, this Gordon film keeps the suspense going through out. Cheesy effects? Of course, this was made in 1960. Richard Carlson delivers a fine performance. The child actress is very good, as well. I especially like the scene during the wedding ceremony, when a mysterious wind blows into the chapel that rapidly turns the pages of preachers book...to the the chapter titled "Burial of the Dead". The finale may be predictable for some, but it's handled perfectly (hadn't we all forgotten about the missing ring?). It's easy to find faults with this film, but as said before, just go with the flow, forget MST3K treatments, and watch it as intended.
Mesa of Lost Women (1953)
Ya Gotta Love this One
Really, a terrible film. But it's well worth watching/owning. This movie was included in a 50-film Sci-Fi pack from Glory Days Ent. The highlight of the film is beautiful Tandra Quinn's cantina dance (she's still alive, by the way, and her name's not Tandra Quinn), where as Tarantella, she seductively moves to Hoyt Curtain's soundtrack of flamenco guitar/piano. She's very sexy, but certainly no professional dancer. We're holding a TANDRA QUINN FESTIVAL in July at the Muerto Desert Palms featuring a Tarantella dance contest, a Lyle Talbot sound-a-like contest, live music, giant spiders, and featuring George the Nurse. Tickets on sale at the Amer-Exico Field Hospital and the Muerto State Asylum. Bring your 9-inch black fingernails.
