A proper, creepy found footage horror movie I've been waiting for since Gonjiam
29 October 2023
Generally, I am not a huge fan of found footage movies but this one was amazing. I loved the first Hell House, I enjoyed the trilogy and I am glad that the forth installment went back to the roots of creepiness and mystery of the first one.

The perfect balance between background storytelling, the characters' dynamics and the scares, which are done very tastefully, in my opinion; subtle yet effective, nothing too flashy. I actually got goosebumps a couple of times and I do not get creeped out easily.

The camera work is great too, not too shakey, drifting away to build the tension and always focuses on what needs to be seen.

Overall, this was a thrilling, engaging and eerie ride, a great watch.

Midnight Mass (2021)

Strongly driven by dialogues, very dark and simply excellent
5 October 2021
As a big fan of Flanagan in general, I had very high expectations for this and they have still been massively exceeded. I found it remarkably engrossing. The entwinement of two such antagonistic topics is done excellently, the execution of the more intense scenes is simply superb, and the characters are developed so nicely. The performances are stellar and I absolutely love that it is so strongly monologue and dialogue-driven but at the same time, throughout the show the feeling of something dark and menacing is constantly present.

I cannot give it enough praise.

In my opinion, Mike Flanagan outdid himself with this masterpiece and proved once again he truly is one of the absolute best in the horror genre.

An excellent serial killer movie with a different approach
8 June 2021
This is one of those absolutely amazing movies with an original, unpredictable and disturbing plot where everything clicks perfectly: the mood, the script, the atmosphere, the whole execution and, of course, D'Onofrio delivers with a stellar performance. Brilliant movie, beginning to end, a must-see for any fan of serial killer flicks.

Gore, action, and bizarre supernatural occurrences; what more can a horror addict ask for?
17 May 2021
The movie is a great 80s throwback horror; a very entertaining watch, filled with gory scenes, packed with action, and a solid storyline that you just have to follow to the end.

Well done, practical effects and all!

I was pleasantly surprised, good watch!

Solid Taiwanese horror; tho nothing too original, it's done very well with some legitimately creepy moments, very fitting atmosphere, and a nice little twist at the end. Overall, it feels a bit like...Blair Witch Project meets The Grudge.

Don't be discouraged by the negative opinions, it's a pretty great movie
2 April 2021
I found this anthology flick pretty great; it's very peculiar, intriguing, and a little disturbing. All the segments are done quite effectively, each providing a fair amount of strangeness and creepiness. It's not your everyday horror, filled with jump scares and gore, but it delivers spledidly with its originality and slow burning uneasiness.

If you enjoy ghost stories, check it out, it's really not that bad
31 March 2021
As a lifelong horror geek, this movie didn't do much for me, cos it's pretty mainstream, but this doesn't mean it's a bad flick. The story is well executed, there are a few creepy scenes, and the performances are solid. It's a good watch, especially if you enjoy non-American horror.

An atmospheric gem wrapped in a fine mist of sci-fi mystery
26 March 2021
Kept my attention beginning to end, it's a great slow burning movie, with an amazing atmosphere and solid performances. It's also fairly original, has some similar vibes than the movies Resolution, and The Endless, and the ending is really incredible. Definitely worth the watch, would recommend to anyone who enjoys something a little different.

Why did I watch this abomination?!
13 February 2021
In my opinion, The Dark Tower is the most incredible story ever told, and this is what they did with it?! The plot is completely butchered and missing about 99,5% of the story, and the characters share the names from those in the books but almost no characteristics. To me it felt like someone decided to slap King in the face with the worst possible adaptation of his greatest story.

If you read the books, skip the movie, seriously! If you haven't read the series, skip the movie and read the books instead.

Unsettling horror with serious Hereditary vibes
14 November 2020
Well this was much creepier than I expected, not to mention highly unsettling and quite disturbing. The performances, the atmosphere, and the setting are all fantastic, and there are some serious Hereditary vibes, but instead of the unsettling, eerie feeling that just wouldn't go away, they included a couple of jump scenes. Overall, this is the best 2020 horror I've seen so far!

Brilliant entwinement of real-life horror and the supernatural
9 November 2020
This one surprised me in the best way possible. The setting of an ongoing war is terrifying by itself, and when an eerie legends turns out to be real, things quickly turn even darker. It is done very tastefully, and a couple of jumpscares even managed to catch me off guard (and that rarely happens). This is definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year, highly recommended to anyone who enjoys a good paranormal flick.

A lot better than I expected!
9 November 2020
Well this was quite a tense and infuriating ride, and I mean this a good way! Though the concept is not really original, the whole execution is threaded very nicely; quickly reels you in and doesn't let go till the very end. The performance of 'the paramedic' is incredible, and the ending is satisfying and quite diabolical. Well done, a fine thriller indeed.

An atmospheric dark fairytale
15 October 2020
If you are looking for a thrilling scary movie, this one is not for you. It's a slow paced, beautifully shot dark fairytale, that takes you on a journey to an unfamiliar territory. The setting is amazing, as is the atmosphere throughout the entire movie, and the performances are pretty solid. Well worth the watch, even though it's not your everyday scary story.

A captivating gothic love story
13 October 2020
At the beginning of Bly Manor, I thought it's going to be a sort of a typical ghost story, similar to Hill House maybe, but it soon turned out to be so much more. Bly Manor isn't supposed to scare you; it's a dark story that is supposed to grab you and take you on a twisty journey of love and loss. I think it's brilliantly eerie wrapped in a fine mist of mystery; storytelling at its best, it is just perfectly splendid.
