Generally, I am not a huge fan of found footage movies but this one was amazing. I loved the first Hell House, I enjoyed the trilogy and I am glad that the forth installment went back to the roots of creepiness and mystery of the first one.
The perfect balance between background storytelling, the characters' dynamics and the scares, which are done very tastefully, in my opinion; subtle yet effective, nothing too flashy. I actually got goosebumps a couple of times and I do not get creeped out easily.
The camera work is great too, not too shakey, drifting away to build the tension and always focuses on what needs to be seen.
Overall, this was a thrilling, engaging and eerie ride, a great watch.
