The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
Dissapointing to say the least
A halfhearted effort in every sense of the word. The simplified animation, smarmy campiness, and attempts to appear relevant fall completely flat in this Disney animated feature. This tired tale of enlightenment might be excusable if there was anything fresh or entertaining along the way. The art is quite different from typical Disney fare, probably due to an accelerated production schedule. In any case it's a step down in that department as well. Perhaps young children, at least those who enjoy any and all cartoons, will find something of value here. Everyone else steer clear. 2/10
The Boondock Saints (1999)
Avoid like the plague
One of the WORST films I have ever had the dubious pleasure of watching all the way through to the end. The action is so bad it's comedic, the characters are poorly crafted and underdeveloped, the soundtrack is one of the worst ever set to film, and the lame attempts at humor irritate far more than they amuse. The dialog as well as the story itself is not even B movie quality. Avoid at all costs.
Final Destination 2 (2003)
A terrible film in every respect
This is one appallingly bad film. From the dialog, to the lack of continuity between and even during scenes, to the pathetic death sequences this is one long ride to boredom. Yet it made money, and when crap like this turns a profit we all suffer in the long run.
The Robot (1932)
Well done little cartoon
I found it curious that a cartoon made in 1931 would show a closed circuit television setup. Would have been very futuristic at that time, although TV existed it was not really too far out of the lab. There were no commercial stations broadcasting or anything like that. All in all a nice little cartoon although as mentioned elsewhere, it's really a pre Betty Boop sort of female character. One thing I did find out, U.M. & M TV Corp bought the rights to the Fleisher cartoons in the 1950's, long after the cartoons were orginally made. There was no U.M. & M TV corp in 1931 (or 1932) when this was made.
The Forbidden Quest (1993)
Wonderful film in all respects
Certainly one of the best fantasy/Sci-Fi films I have ever seen, a fantastic idea executed to perfection. The intermingling of archival footage and live acting to weave a tale of epic adventure near the turn of the (last) century is both compelling and inspired. I'm surprised this film has not garnered more praise than it has.
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)
Mike Meyers does it yet again!
And again, and again. While I truly enjoyed the original 1997 Austin Powers movie, I felt the 1999 release (The spy who shagged me) was far too derivative and lacking in originality to recommend to others. This latest release is simply going through the motions, trying to milk what they can from what has become (unfortunately) a tired formula. They clearly ran out of material after the first film, but at least the 1999 release had funnier moments than this latest effort.
