Winter Love Story (2019 TV Movie)
9/10
Great chemistry indeed!
24 February 2020
As romance movies go, I gave this one high marks because both main characters are wonderful, together, but also very pleasing to the eye. There was eye candy for both of us, watching. At my age, it feels silly to say that, but there it is. What an adorably cute couple they made!!

I had fun watching this one. Jen and Kevin are very convincing and though I think most romance movies are hokey, this one wasn't.

I was especially surprised when I recognized so many of the locations in the movie as being my home town and not the US as the story indicates, so bonus points for that one. It would have been really cool to see them while they were here. I might actually have played fangirl for a day.

Keep 'em coming, you two!

Loses half marks for using an elderly woman to play a young character
18 February 2020
This was a slow burn, but the turns it took kept me watching.

My only complaint, and I say this not because I don't appreciate great looking older women playing roles that are younger than they actually are, but in this case, she could have been the guy's mother. The guy is about 40 or 41 when this was done and she looks in her mid sixties.

I get that the character was using women, but this was pushing it too far, seeing as everyone else he went after was indeed young to the point of being younger than he is.

Call me nit-picky, but that's what killed the review points for me.

Donny Yen is too old to be playing a young man
30 January 2020
In this movie, Donny's character is supposed to be just a tad older than his younger brother. I wasn't paying close attention to if they mention ages, but by the looks of it, I'd say no more than 5 years apart.

He is, in actuality, 17 years older than the other actor. He was 43 when he made this movie and he was playing a 20 something year-old at most and they tried to hide him behind a lot of long hair hanging in his face and it just did not work for me.

All that aside, I enjoyed the movie and Yen is an amazing fighter, but it lost a lot of rating points because of this obvious age issue.

Get ready to roll your eyes.....A LOT!!!
12 January 2020
From the beginning, you can tell there's going to be poor quality acting, but more than that, as the movie progresses, you'll beging to see it's because it's likely very low budget, for a movie.

Bruce WIllis doesn't make the show good. Heck, he kind of makes it worse because we are all used to his smart mouth. In this movie, he sticks to a badly written script and delivers an uninspiring performance. Steve Guttenberg, well....shame on him for becoming a hack.

The real star is Nicky Whelan, but even that is giving her too much credit. For a non lethal puncture wound, she walks like her leg is about to fall off and the amount of blood is beyond ridiculous.

All in all the movie felt like Home Alone but without the humor. There is one scene where keys are found to be missing and one character then pats his chest twice and states his micro card (think micro hd card) is lost. No one would feel that through a leather jacket. It was just a ridiculous moment in a long line of ridiculous scenes.

I forces myself to finish watching this one because all movies deserve at least that much from us before we critique them.

It's a low 3 for me.

Fun teen movie
7 December 2019
I have not watched a teen movie since Sixteen Candles and I was getting too old to watch them, then, so my expectations were pretty low. I just wanted the distraction and ended up watching the whole thing.

The main actor, Noah Centineo, was really good at his craft. I will be watching out for his work. In my opinion, he's this generation's young version of Vince Vaughn. I don't know if he deliberately emulates the older actor, or if they are perhaps related, somehow, but very ofter, during the film, it felt like I was watching a Vince Vaughn movie and everyone loves Vince!

The female lead was also very good and my granddaughter recognized her from another movie she'd just watched before I got there. I also couldn't put my finger on where I'd seen the dream girl actress but it turns out she plays Veronical in the Archie comics based TV show, Riverdale. I don't watch that one, but I did take a peek at a preview once.

The story made sense, though some of the acting felt forced, but I see forced reactions in just about every movie I watch so they don't lose points for it, especially since they are all so much younger than the actors I normally watch.

It's a movie meant to be light hearted and fun and it does that. We get to see a modern version of guy meets gal who lives beyond his means....heck..most of the cast live beyond his means and he wants to be a part of that world, until he doesn't......or does he? Not going to spoil it for you but it carries its message loud and clear, much like all the older similar stories ever did, so your teens should enjoy this story too.
