Under the Banner of Heaven (2022)
Ineffective and like 20% true
The show pretends to be a true story, but of course is not. Not only is the narrative of Pyre not true, but the murder, lds history, and lds culture are grossly misrepresented.
Out of Liberty (2019)
How is this Rated Worse than Ephraim's Rescue?
This is a well-produced, decently acted, and consistent movie. That's not the highest praise, but it's more than most faith-based movies have. It's also nice that it takes a unique look at the story, even if it bends the history (but that's just something that has to happen to make a compelling film). All in all, this is among the best LDS films, though certainly not the best.
Ephraim's Rescue (2013)
As Bad as it Gets
There are so many faith promoting things in this story, but it can't excuse the bizarre choices made by the director. The movie is just a string of mindblowingly silly moments with even more distracting overarching issues. The pacing has to be the worst offender here, but almost every aspect of this film is subpar, all while thinking that it's being impactful.
Brigham City (2001)
More than the sum of its parts
One of the best faith-based films. With acting that is no better than decent and with many elements that usually make for a bad movie, this managed to be thrilling and emotional at several points in the runtime. It deserves a lot more attention.
