Accidental Truth: UFO Revelations (2023)
Better than some of the reviews would have you believe...
This documentary has been professionally written and the quality of presentation is pretty good. It was entertaining and occasionally very informative. I have no idea what the people who gave this a 1/10 were watching, but it wasn't this. So taking into account this documentary and other books and documentaries over the decades then we have to surmise that there have been at least 100 UFO crashes, and many of the vehicles and sometimes bodies have been recovered. I'm coming around to the fact that these things have crashed here and organic and inorganic matter has been retrieved. However before we start screaming Government coverup and dive down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories, lets address the enormous Mastodon in the room. These highly advanced beings that can traverse space and for all we know time and dimensions end up crashing on little old Earth over a hundred times... Nah, I don't buy it, not for a second. Read operation Trojan Horse by John Keel. Whatever this phenomenon is it's been going on for a very long time. To me these crashed vehicles and occupants look more like the items that we might put into a Rat's maze to test them. Let see if the cute critter can eventually get the nut! Its really the only option that makes any sense at all given the changing nature of the phenomenon and its complexity. Some intelligence is testing us, why? I have no idea. Do rats in a maze know they are being tested? One thing is likely, when the rats (us) do figure out what's going on, the phenomenon will probably morph into something else...
Blue Eye Samurai (2023)
As perfect an animation as I've ever seen...
There are lots of items that need to work together well in order to make an incredible viewing experience.
Firstly, the writing has to be excellent. The first bite may be with the eye, but it won't hold your attention unless the underlying story is well written and engaging. This has been beautifully written and at times I've been completely swept away by the story and it actually moved me.
Next, the look and the direction has to work. How often have we seen good stories ruined by poor direction and cheap hurried visuals (see most Stephen King adaptations). I've never seen an animation that works as well as this (and I go back all the way to Marine Boy...). The backgrounds have been meticulously crafted and really give you a real sense of Japan in the mid-1600s. It all feels incredibly real. It's like we've been given a magic window back to that time, just incredible. The animation is always fluid and dynamic.
Finally, the acting. The voice acting has been faultless! George Takei! What a voice... Kenneth Branagh as the evil barbarian Fowler. In each case the voice seems to match the character exactly.
If this was a detective story it would be Bosch. If it was a Sci-Fi series, it would be Fringe. If it was a film, it would be Back to the Future. Yes, it really is that good. This is a high water mark for animation and storytelling and it will change things. In this case I think the poor reviews by the purists are just plain wrong. But don't take my word for it. See for yourself, see, feel and understand...
Alien Gods (2019)
What a sad, sorry mess of a film...
I haven't posted a review here before, but this was so bad that I had to let people know. Seldom have I watched a documentary where I have come away actually knowing less that I did before. Where do I begin? Let's starts with the basics. The writing of this was so bad that it would have to be promoted several ranks to reach merely poor. I'm struggling to see who the target audience was here, maybe impressionable ten year olds? If you are trying to tell a story, you typically start with a beginning a middle and ending. This narrative jumped around all over the place never setting down for a second. I got the impression that they were trying to give us the old "Razzle Dazzle" and hoping we couldn't see because we had sequins in our eyes. What the writer succeeded in doing was mixing a smattering of facts with a huge helping of fiction. I've read that some UFO contactees have dictated reams of information 'inspired' by their encounter. This seems very much like the output from such a session but filmed as is without any editing. From a graphical perspective it was a mixed bag. Some of the GCI was sophisticated, but most of it was crude and looked like it had been created on an exceptionally low budget. This entire program was an almost textbook example of confirmation bias. Start with a premise then shoe horn all the evidence to fit that premise, ignoring everything else. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hard headed rationalist. There is something very wrong with our recorded history, especially before the Younger Dryas and the floods that followed. Slowly and surely, we will find more evidence of this in the coming decades. Likewise, I'm reasonably sure that there was and still is some interaction with humanity and non-human entities, call then elementals if you like. But this outpouring of snake like aliens producing hybrid giants is just pure liquid twaddle. For those with an enquiring mind, please walk away from this and instead read John A. Keel, Jacques Vallee and Graham Hancock. Then come back and view this again.
