Saturday Night Live: Ayo Edebiri/Jennifer Lopez (2024)
Ayo is incredibly diverse, impressive acting
So admittedly, I am not familiar with Ayo Edebiri's acting ability but I was interested in watching her as the host based on her 2024 Emmy and Golden Globe win. I was excited to see her hosting, and this was my introduction to her talent. Not only did she keep herself completely relatable in the opening montage, but I absolutely blown away with this episode. She stole the show with her ability to adapt to every single character and give each her own unique talent and perspective. She pretty much stole every scene she was in. Absolutely remarkable. Keep up the great work Ayo! She made this episode extraordinary.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Dwayne Johnson/Camila Cabello/Ian Lara (2022)
The Rock is excited about his movie!
This was a great interview with Dwayne Johnson. He was featured as a guest on this episode to promote his film, Black Adam. Set to be released in a few days time, during the interview he explains how much time this took to make and produce. A labour of love and bay he was adamantly behind, thusly he 's very proud. But I will admit that that the show stealer is a bit done by him and Jimmy Fallon where Jimmy plays a promo director and is directing him to sell to certain markets. Oh my gosh, this sketch is absolutely the funniest and truly showcases the talents each of these individuals have as actors. A pleasant surprise.
Insecure: Pressure, Okay?! (2021)
Parenthood isn't Easy
I really loved this inside view of the initial stages of being parents in a disconnected way and living in different areas. There were many aspects that were captured perfectly in this scenario.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Renee Zellweger/David Byrne/David Byrne's American Utopia (2022)
David Byrne is such a gem
It was a wonderful interview especially seeing David Byrne and all of his talents. He also does a stellar music performance with his band at the end. Loved it.
An American Pickle (2020)
Great Acting from Seth Rogan
Cute idea and an pretty good, although unbelievable plot. Seth does a great job portraying two different characters. A different glimpse into his acting skills - something where he isn't just playing a giggly stoner! Lol A look at Jewish heritage with a few nicely integrated jokes and humour points throughout.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
"This isn't going to end well."
I enjoyed this, while not exactly your average high suspense Zombie flick, there is great writing and acting involved. Bill Murray of course brings depth to the lead in subtle ways, plus you can catch some excellently delivered comedy due to the writing if you pay attention. I loved how the Fourth Wall was broken a few times during their conversation and how they story played out. Especially how they made fun of how "zombiefied" people have become, needing and relying on media, drugs, cosmetics and fashion without thinking. Some enjoyable layers of humour throughout. Overall, witty and well delivered if you don't take it too seriously.
Pose: Take Me to Church (2021)
Pray Tell's backstory
I just loved getting to see PT's background and the challenges he survived and removed himself from in his youth. So well narrated and given life to by Billy Porter. Definitely well written, acted and preformed.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Stressful, but with Afterthoughts
Absolutely outstanding CGA and cinematography effects. The story is good, but he thing that grabbed me the most was the cringy stress of watching the main character, Augustine have to deal with and overcome all the obstacles in his path to reach his goal. Omg... I caught myself screaming at the TV and breaking into a sweat more than once. So, for that it's a bit challenging. Both my partner and I were talking about this for the next day after watching it so it really stuck with us!
Call Me Kat: Plus One (2021)
Yikes
Oh geeze, I wanted to like this so badly. Being a huge fan of Mayim Bialik's previous work, the premise for this show sounded interesting. And to her credit, her acting still holds up! But, the show on a whole is definitely cringy and has a lack of flow. A little too over the top.
Mr. Robot: eps3.7_dont-delete-me.ko (2017)
Blown Away
Wow, simply.. wow! Watching Elliot grow and become in touch with his emotions and being able to feel what he's feeling! Loved the new characters introduced and watching Elliot show up. The writing is just so phenomenal and it shows how this character is not only growing, but also helping himself by helping others. Outstanding!
Tales from the Loop: Transpose (2020)
Digging Deeper
Wow, what a creative aspect to show the element of a body transposition. I just adore this idea, and then bringing it to life. I also love how each of the Jakob and Danny characters must now adapt to their own situations in their new bodies, in their own respective houses and parents. Good acting chops for both of these two and an overall interesting premise.
Four Christmases (2008)
A Little Over the Top but Funny
Being one of those individuals who has to regularly endure four Christmases myself, there are parts of this I could certainly relate to. Highlights come from from performances by Jon Favreau who is amazingly built, beefed up and surprisingly convincing as a muscle-head. Naturally, both Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon show some great character range, ensuing with hilarity and good acting chops. Both parts feel-good and cringe worthy.
Utopia: Talking Hurts (2020)
Arby coming into his own!
Love how the authenticity of Arby's story is portrayed here. He's finally realizing he needs love that has been denied to him and is now willing to act on these convictions. It's a real glory to see how he finally lets someone live (Charlotte) in these moments and also assigns himself a new name as a new beginning.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Enola is not alone
A fun, engaging, family-friendly story about a young lady using her intelligence to help solve mysteries around her, and find herself in the processes. Molly Bobby Brown is stellar as usual.
Room 104: Hungry (2018)
Excellent acting, disturbing theme!
Okay so this is of course, incredibly disturbing in some ways. The story line is very well written, and underneath the shock, you can really see the emotional turmoil all of these characters are experiencing which is truly outstanding.
The Lighthouse (2019)
An Impressive Range of Acting
From the black and white aspect of filming to the relentless rawness of these characters; there is a quiet artistic genius unraveled here. The movie itself is disturbing in ways you wouldn't even know how to recognize or describe while watching it. The tale of responsibility, meets sacrifice, meets survival - all whilst being hugged in an itchy mental illness soaked sweater. The acting is so outstanding, you will feel like you're really there. Make sure to get on good terms with all mermaids, and Cthulhu before climbing aboard this ship.
Hail Satan? (2019)
A Refreshing Surprise
I was a bit hesitant at first, to view this film but I was drawn to it because I did not actually know what The Satanic Temple was, what they stood for, and what they are all about. Much like many others, I'm sure - I was looking at them through a different lens and much to my surprise I loved learning about this organization and they're beliefs. I am glad I didn't judge too harshly before opening my mind and deciding to learn. I commend this production and the people involved for being so honest and sharing their views regarding religious oppression and justice. As others have pointed out, this is truly not what you think it will be. Positive and refreshing.
Someone Great (2019)
Gives a view of a young woman making choices
As much as I wanted to be team Jenny, I couldn't get past how much this dragged on. Good actors, but the script was so greatly lacking. It just wasn't good.
Baby Driver (2017)
Disappointing acting
This film had a lot of rave reviews, upon watching however the acting - although an all star cast was lacklustre at best. Some of the getaway driving scenes were brilliantly shot. This overall was a great challenge to get through. Terrible acting throughout, either due to the screenplay or directing.
