Possum (2018)
Strong Idea Poorly Executed
This movie I found was just way to ambigous for its own good. It def had a creepy vibe to it (at times) but was trying to be so art house that it fell short. I've seen this happne a fewq times and I think its down to the stupid distributors trying to sell and market something as something it isn't. Hoepfully it will find it's audience and sit out there as an art house thriller but as a mainstream horror... no.
The Village in the Woods (2019)
Hammer Horror
I've always liked the hammer horror of days gone. This movie comes in with some classic pointers with a newness. Kim Newman at Empire magazine said Therese Bradley is outstanding... He's not wrong, from her wanting to devour the lead to smiling oddly. Fun little indie movie which is well produced.
Wasteland (2012)
Surprised
This is a good little movie. I didn't expect it to be as good as this. Found it on Netflix.
The Irishman (2019)
Slow but Not Uneventful
First let's talk story. This is a fascinating period of time in US history so the foundation is there for a strong story but it just drags a bit too much. For it to be 3.5 hours long is crazy. It's just way too long.
Secondly, what is De'Niro's characters goal exactly? He seems to be pretty 2d in so many respects. The strength of an anti-hero is found in what motivates them. I couldn't see what did.
All that aside the VFX is certainly good. They made this film for 350M. Of which most must of gone on VFX and main cast. That in of itself is a very expensive movie for what actually is.
First Man (2018)
Honest yet Boring
It looked real and of the time. That said there felt like there was a lack of character somehow. It's hard to place exactly but something was a miss.
