Redwood (2017)
There's some time I'll never get back...
Premise:
Couple fo for hike, disturb nest of vampires.
Initial thoughts?
Sounds enjoyable, as a dan of the vampire genre, I love different kind of takes on it.
Watched it.
After thoughts?
WTF was that. Awful actors, tame vampires, long boring scenes of just, quite frankly, nothing.
The sound is terrible, the scenes shakey and ill planned.
The casting director needs to go back to school as, even as a Brit, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY CHOOSE A BRITISH LAD IN A HORROR!!!??. They just don't fit.
This sounded promising. 30 days of night promising. Instead, it just felt like I was actually watching something for 30 whole days.
After Midnight (2019)
Sorry, but this movie is actually tremendous
I dont know what this is; is it horror? A love story? Sci-fi!? Comedy!?
Probably all of the above.
I watched this because my wife was watching Love Island and I had nothing else to do, but I ended up jumping at the scares, laughing at the jokes and even kind of "aww"ing at the romance. It's weird AF but in a unique, borderline beautiful way.
Honestly, dont take it too serious, dont expect it to be an outright horror, or anything else for that matter. Watch it for what it is and enjoy the performances. Especially that of Henry Zebrowski who often steals the show with what little screen time he has.
One of my favourite movies so far this year and I'm about 50 deep...!
