Ride Like a Girl (2019)
Great father/daughter film. Wasn't expecting to like this let alone cry
All these reviews talk about female empowerment or some feminist story.
That's not what I watched.
Sure, she's a woman, in a male dominated industry.
That's about it when it comes to whatever feminism these reviewers are babbling about.
There's much more to this story.
It's a story about family. About trying to be your own person and not what other people think you are and should be.
This film depicts an odd family and their dynamics which is in itself heartwarming.
Then you have the runt of the litter. That person nobody thinks will amount to anything and her father wants her to be the best she can be but is conflicted because he also wants to protect her from a dangerous profession.
Then you have that relationship between father and daughter and how difficult it can be because there's so much love between the two so you'll cry with what happens between them and you'll want to yell at the screen and tell them to stop behaving like fools the way you do with your own father and your own father does with you.
This story has so many interesting angles that if you think it's just a story about horse racing or feminism then you'll miss out on a really good movie.
Have a box of tissues handy. The family drama alone is enough to make you cry.
This has got to be one of the best movies out of Australia in decades! Better than the thousands of movies Hollywood has been spewing out recently.
Teresa Palmer surprised me. What was she doing in Hollywood? The movies she was in from Hollywood were all "meh" so I wasn't expecting the performance she delivered.
Sam Neil... when this guy wants to he will give you a performance that will make you love him and demand he get all the awards for it! You really feel what the woes of fatherhood are with his character and he adds little details that I think most people won't notice but those who do will understand how important this character's children are to him.
This a definite must for everyone and I think it might be that bit more special for a father and his daughter so that they can understand each other better
Togo (2019)
These are heroes! This is courage!
All you see nowadays are people throwing around the words "courage" and "heroic" to describe any mundane event or unremarkable person.
Those words should only be used to describe anyone like the two main characters of this film.
This is more than just a tale about a man and his dog. This is a beautiful story about bravery, determination and risking all because it's the right thing to do and not in an attempt at glory.
I cried alot during the movie and now thinking of it I'm crying too. It's that touching and moving.
To think these two characters did what they did and aren't both immortalized with a statue or something is just inexplicable.
This film also taught me about a certain breed of dog that came into existence because of the real Togo.
Willem Dafoe proves again he's the European definition of actor, a true artist.
I was also relieved to see such a strong female character! Finally! I always admire these type of women that people often overlook or don't appreciate because she's a wife, a friend, a homemaker and a man's driving force.
And many times throughout the film her husband talks about her in a way you can tell there's alot of respect and admiration for her even when he says she's stubborn it's a compliment trust me!
What a beautiful marriage.
The wife is also fundamental to the story in different ways not just as the man's safe haven from the world. But I can't explain why without giving away the story.
That dog... one in a million. To be lucky enough to have had a dog like that must be extraordinary.
I almost didn't watch this film because my mind was comparing this to 2 other movies "snow dogs" with Cuba Gooding Jr and that Paul Walker film "Eight Below". Thankfully I ignored my mind's comparisons. This film is more in tune with "Eight below" but it's in a very different tone. I liked "Eight below" alot and "Togo" too.
This film requires your full attention because it jumps from one time to another. One minute you're seeing Togo as a pup the next Togo is struggling for survival. It doesn't confuse you if you're paying attention and it's also an interesting way of telling the story.
I didn't give it 10 stars because of a few scenes I don't agree with that have no relevance whatsoever to the story but were added for the reasons I don't agree with and I can't say what or this website will censor me and also other than that, this movie is a must.
Christmas at the Royal Hotel (2018)
Very low budget film
This looks like a homemade film. Poorly directed and poor acting. As every movie nowadays historical accuracy is thrown out the window. From lycra boxer shorts in the 1940's to africans in china at that time this home video is what you'd expect from this day in age.
If none of what I said deters you then I hope you enjoy it. I couldn't watch it
Use Me (2019)
Boring and NOT a real documentary
I read somewhere this is a documentary but it isn't.
This is basically trying to promote a nobody to mainstream.
She's not interesting and rather boring. Zero charisma. Just another young body with a face that looks pretty with makeup.
They take "real" bits about some cam girl and add fiction to make it seem legit. Kind of like how "reality" tv is made.
And if you're hoping to see this cam girl fully naked then don't waste your time with this.
You'll see some footage of her cam sessions where she's wearing lingerie whilst posing in a sexually suggestive manner and that's about it.
