Daddy (I) (2015)

Dream Daddy
21 October 2016
No spoilers - this movie probably won't be for everyone with that twist reveal, but taken for what it is, it's a well-acted independent movie. Gerald McCullouch is a dream daddy! He's a commanding presence and definitely swoon-worthy. The movie also plays a bit on the "non-sexual life partner bit" in that the lead character's (Colin) relationship with his longtime best friend (Stewart) has taken on a marriage-like quality, complete with jealousy and all the emotional ticks therein. When Colin starts dating a much younger man, things get a little heated and it's interesting to see how that plays out. Check it out and see what you think.

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
7 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This is a near perfect movie. A perfect blend of humor, suspense, punchy dialogue, great one-liners, great acting and direction. I walked out of this movie thinking not only was this the best movie of the year, but probably one of the best in years! A totally refreshing, original, creative, inventive, dazzling movie! Robert Downey, Jr. has never been better and I'm a new Val Kilmer fan. I also loved the fact that Val's character just "happens" to be gay. So many times in Hollywood they make the mistake of trying to make a gay film - having a gay character and trying to build a movie around it. It was very refreshing to see a representation of a gay man in a Hollywood movie who wasn't swishy, lisping and nelly. And how refreshing to see that Robert Downey Jr.'s character had absolutely no issues with being friends and associates with this man. Bravo!

The Innocents (1961)

Not bad - but disappointing ***SPOILERS***
10 October 2005
I like this movie - I don't love it. I think it's worth viewing for the overall creep factor but truthfully this movie pales in comparison to the Haunting which is a much better haunted house story. The acting in The Innocents is top-notch if a bit hammy. The ending is completely vague and is very unsatisfying. I wanted to see more of what happened. What happened to Flora? Why did Miles die? I don't object to vague endings per se, but this particular ending just felt like the director ran out of steam and said "cut" before a real ending could be captured. I know this movie has it's devoted following but I'm wondering if that following has seen the Haunting?

Not nearly as bad as you've heard
1 May 2005
Admittedly I usually like movies that the critics don't but to be honest I can't see what was so wrong with this movie to begin with. Jennifer Garner's a highly likable and believable action heroine (anyone who doubts that should watch "Alias"), and the storyline was pretty good by comic book movie standards - sure this is no X-Men 2 (considered by many fans of the genre to be the best comic book movie ever) but it does alright on its own. I'm wondering if the failure of this movie has more to do with the public's aversion to super heroine movies (witness the deserved failure of Catwoman and the second Tomb Raider movie)? In any event, I stand by my liking of this movie - critics be damned.

Love it or hate it
24 January 2004
Judging by the reviews of this movie, critics aren't coming up with too many nice things to say. But who listens to the critics anyway? I found this movie to be highly entertaining and original, if not implausible and badly acted in spots. The time jumping theme is interesting and the movie definitely has some suspenseful moments. Try it....you might like it.

Wrong Turn (I) (2003)

Not original but a fun, thrilling popcorn horror flick
30 May 2003
This is one of those movies that critics will hate but audiences will love. They don't make horror movies for critics anyway. "Wrong Turn" owes alot to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the like. It also pushes the R rating with some serious gore! I have to say at this point after watching her on Buffy, Angel and Bring it On, I'd seriously consider paying money to see Eliza Dushku read the phone book. She's fantastic, sexy, charismatic, and definitely has "what it takes"...that girl's got a bright future!

X2 (2003)

Darn near perfect
5 May 2003
It is as if the movie gods shone down on me and said "Here, this is what you want." I am now really looking forward to X3! X2 improved on the first on so many levels: the characters, the special effects, even the length! Plus it focused more on other characters besides Wolverine...I love him as much as the next guy but I found myself fascinated with Iceman, Jean Grey and Storm and am glad there was a balance between them. I'm still not sure about Rogue. I love Anna Paquin's portrayal of her, but lets face it - this isn't the Rogue from the comics. I doubt we'll be seeing Rogue and Ms. Marvel duke it out in X3 if you know what I mean. Anyway, even if you're not a fan of the comics - I think it is safe to say this movie stands on its own as the Empire Strikes Back of the X-men movie franchise.

Such a surprise!
1 May 2003
This is definitely one of the best films of the year! While starting out on the familiar turf of a slasher/suspense film, the ending of this film will blow you away! Looking back now, it begs repeated viewings to see all the little hints dropped (those who have seen the movie know what I'm talking about). I found this film highly imaginative, thrilling, full of suspense, well-acted and atmospheric. A great job by all involved! Rebecca DeMornay has a great role as the bitch movie star.

Ehhhh....
7 January 2003
Granted, I'm not a huge fan of musicals so I may be biased in my review but I must say I was not overly thrilled sitting through this. I did enjoy Catherine Zeta-Jones but Renee Zelwegger went back on my "annoying list" after having come off it with Nurse Betty and Bridget Jones Diary. It just seemed very flat to me and overall I didn't see it as an actor's showcase-just a flashy, flat, overly long music video.

A great send off
16 December 2002
I am somewhat saddened to write that....as it's all too apparent that this is the last film in the illustrious Star Trek franchise. I prefer to live in a world where we have no Deep Space Nine, Voyager, or Enterprise, but only the original series and the more involving Next Generation. From the beginning of Nemesis, I was immediately hooked. The chemistry between this cast is one of the best in any series or franchise. One of my personal favorites, Deanna Troi, had a great moment to showcase her telepathic abilities and it was a nice surprise to see two familiar faces in the opening wedding scene. I will admit to getting somewhat misty during the closing scenes when a beloved crew member sacrifices himself for the greater good. Go boldly.

What crap
16 December 2002
Seriously....ever hear of the lemming who follows a leader blindly? Well, I think one critic declared this a masterpiece due to the gimmick and everyone was brainwashed into following suit, like lemmings. This is one of the worst, if not the worst movies I've ever seen! So boring and gimmicky...why didn't they just make it in 3-D while they were at it?

Worth it for the butt shot
9 December 2002
To sound completely crass-the only reason to see this movie is to see the wonder that is the Clooney butt. The acting is serviceable enough but the story is pointless. I have nothing to compare it to having never seen the original, but I'm not a fan of self important, arty "films" and probably would never see the original anyway. I admit that my sole draw to this was to see George drop trou and I wasn't disappointed! Other than that-pretty much a snore.

Disturbing and thought provoking
13 April 2002
Being a huge fan of Bill Paxton's, I was looking forward to seeing this movie and I left with my expectations met AND exceeded. How refreshing to see a truly disturbing, chilling thriller. I can see this movie growing by word of mouth and becoming a classic of the genre. Go see it!

One of the best thrillers ever made!
26 January 2002
I am simply astounded at the greatness of this movie. It maintained a high level of creepiness and foreboding, along with being well acted and having some really innovative camera work. Movies where you don't actually see anything but you know something is there are always more scary and this movie definitely ranks as one of the scariest! Watch for the scene where Richard Gere is on the phone and you can see his partial reflection in the mirror. Genius film making!

Fantastic
7 December 2001
I thought it was highly entertaining, smartly acted, razor sharp dialogue and quite possibly one of the best casted films in history. I plan on seeing this one again. George Clooney and Julia Roberts crackle with chemistry! They should make one or two movies together a year they were so good together!

Not too bad
15 September 2001
This is a fun little popcorn movie that I was thoroughly entertained by. It's apparent that Leelee Sobieski is going to have quite a successful career. Diane Lane is wonderful as always, and why she's not a superstar is beyond me. Yes, it has some plot holes but what do you want? Shakespeare? Go see this and forget about all the worlds problems for about two hours.

Indiana Jones with curves!
16 June 2001
Ok-it's just a movie. It's not going to cure cancer or solve world hunger...it's JUST A MOVIE! So sit back, relax, and enjoy the phenomenal Ms. Jolie take over the screen with her portrayal of Lara Croft. This is not your typical bomb movie inspired by a video game. Angelina has got the acting talent to pull this off and she does so marvelously. Her accent is flawless and she looks wonderful-it's nice to see a woman kick ass! I'm glad that a sequel is already planned-I look forward to it already!

the BEST "so bad its good" movie
8 May 2001
What can I say? It has horrible acting, beyond amateurish dialogue, sub-par special effects and you know what.....I've seen it about 50 times! It is so campy and awful that it is good! I definitely think this ranks right up there with Showgirls as one of the all time so bad its good movies! Special mention goes to Dennis Quaid, one of my favorite actors, for looking like he's in on the joke!

Eunice? That's a person named Eunice?
9 April 2001
This movie should be required viewing for anyone who wants a truly funny movie! Infinitely quotable and riotously hysterical, it holds up after many repeated viewings (I have seen this too many times to count and cannot grow tired of it). Babs Streisand stars as a flighty gal who happens upon Ryan O'Neal's somewhat nerdy musicologist in San Francisco. What follows is madcap zaniness in the tradition of the best 30's screwball farces, culminating in one of the best chase scenes ever captured on film. This is one of the all time greats, made even greater by featuring a priceless Madeline Kahn role (her screen debut!) as O'Neal's insanely prudish fiancee Eunice. A definite "must see"!

One of my all time favorites
4 April 2001
Being a big vampire flick fan, I have to say this ranks up there as one of the best (note that the word "vampire" is never spoken in the movie). Basically, nomadic redneck vampire bikers, played by "Aliens" alumni Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein and Lance Henriksen, as well as Jenny Wright and Joshua Miller, kidnap Adrian Pasdar's "Caleb" after he has a passionate run in with Wright's vampire character and she bites him. What follows is fun, sexy, beautifully shot and compelling. The Tangerine Dream score is a plus. Bill Paxton's "Severen" is one of his best roles and he makes the most of it. Adrian Pasdar should've been a big star after this movie.

What a piece of crap!
2 April 2001
I could go on and on about how awful this movie was...and how I wanted to hunt down "Tom and Nic" and demand my money back for seeing this joke of a movie. What a complete waste of time. So pretentious is this movie one has to wonder if Kubrick even made it at all. Cruise's "Cocktail" is Citizen Kane compared to this travesty.

A great vampire flick!
2 April 2001
This is a great movie and vastly underrated. Anthony LaPaglia is a great actor and is a revelation here-something about those haunted puppy dog eyes! I would have recast Anne Parillaud but she's not the reason to see this movie anyway. See it for Mr. LaPaglia and a fun performance by Robert Loggia.

A camp classic that delivers!
2 April 2001
This is one of the best Jodie Foster movies out there and largely ignored due to the general public's misconception of it as a teen flick. It has wonderful performances, particularly a fight scene between Jodie and her mother, played by a convincing Sally Kellerman. The three girls that play Jodie's friends are somewhat amateurish but I do think it is worth seeing.

One of the best comedy films of all time.
2 April 2001
They really don't get much better than this. The dialogue is instantly quotable and the performances are classic. Try and single out one performance as the best in this film-it is impossible! Holds up after repeated viewings and I've seen it too many times to count and never grow tired of it.

The Haunting (1963)
10/10
One of the best films ever-horror or otherwise.
2 April 2001
It is difficult to describe how incredible this film is. Julie Harris gives an exquisite performance in this truly chilling haunted house film that compares quite favorably to the Shirley Jackson novel "the Haunting of Hill House", upon which it is based. What makes the movie so chilling is the implied horror-you never actually see anything but the shadows and skewed camera angles coupled with some truly un-nerving music score makes this one of the best films I have ever seen.
