Bodies: 'You're Dead Already' (2023)
A well done Murder Mystery over 150+ year time-span, and they pull it off.
Good writing, acting, cinematography, and direction, really pays off in this time travelling who-done-it, that spans over 150 years and 4 different detectives perspectives. Yes a bit of a trope theme, but it's entertaining - I love the fact they had the guts to go back a 130 years and forward another 30. That was a nice touch and leveled this show up from "historical murder mystery", to a future-forward quantum entangled one.
Yes quantum theory is all the rage - but who can resist a quantum state superposition? A system able to be in all states until measured? Perhaps a bit like the human soul, or people's inner most dialogue(s) and intentions (see what I did there?).
One caveat. I'm assuming there's an alternate universe where I didn't write this review, or in our current iteration where Quantum theory is disproved, or changed, and the show is as farcical as some that have come before, but good writing, acting, cinematography, and direction, generally lands well in any time period. IMHO.
Btw, I give things 10/10 as a show of gratitude to the work the team does to bring a production to life - it's probably an 8/10 - but is also a 10/10 too.
Star Trek: Picard: The Next Generation (2023)
Incredible start to the season - Bravo CBS/Picard Team
Look I love Star Trek, so ok being in a relationship that has good/great days and not so good ones. I look at Star Trek's different series in the same way. I applaud them for risk taking, and keeping the franchise going.
I liked season 1 and 2 of Picard. If you listen carefully, JLC is offering all of us so much good advice on how to live a good life - good times, tough times, with a touch of regret through story telling.
Season 3 looks to be blasting out of the gate as an incredible authentic Star Trek offering. I wish more ppl could see the duty, honour, empathy and kindness in which JLC invisions and acts in his corner of space, with folks around him.
Star Trek fans...this is a gift, I know it's getting great reviews but these 3 season, to spend time to Picard has been just that.
I think of the crap that kids today input - grumpy 20 something Youtubers with no wisdom, context on any topic but acting like they do, flashy Tiktok fads that come and go, Insta stars pitching crapy products. Books, movies and good television can teach us much about ourselves and the learn from our past with humility and respect.
This is really cool science fiction, a future forward space opera with a incredibly empathic lead, (superbly acted by Patrick Stewart). Some great additions and they managed to actually introduce a compelling next generation cast set-up. Wow. Bravo to the writers, producers, actors, support staff.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: A Quality of Mercy (2022)
Finally a Star Trek Series that hits the mark
I haven't been this excited since STTNG, the original (of course) and a few of the Shatner + Chris Pine Films. After hearing.
After hearing Kate Mulgrew's story of being a mother, space captain and tv star I have a total and newfound respect for discovery - her portrayal was always subtly edgy and I now know why.
Picard is great - I think it's better if you're older and are carry a bit of regret (which we all are by then) if you are this is is brilliant show for you.
And Anson Mount is a star - (like Timothy Olyphant or even a Jeff Bridges), Pine, Steward and Mulgrew - they carry each of their shows - every scene they are in carry weight..
In this one Mount has Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Chong, Gooding, Olusanmokun (stellar) and of course Romijn. He's got back up, but can carry any scene, writing, impending issue he's so afraid about and shows in such interesting, underrated, thoughtful ways.
And what a great message - it's not always about you friend. Sometimes we're bit players in others ppls lives, and there lives end up meaning more to others (not to you and your family) - which btw all these captains lack. Family.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Great writing, plots, characters and family present here
This series so so great. I'm not even sure you need to be a StarTrek nerd (which I am) but it's a character driven story and your compelled to be around Stuart for sure. Wow.
Bravo and well done - this series could have gone in in so many (bad) directions but it's thoughtful, hopeful, and mostly kind.
And Picard as nn old person has that stubborn old get it done attitude, confidence with eagerness to accept input and advice from others is wonderful and the way to lead- and Stuart is still a star. Captivating on screen. Love a diversified cast - I live in a diversified Canada city so weird not to see that on other shows.
