A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
That's it?
I'm such a big fan of the 1st film, and without doubt I've been waiting for the sequel like hell. Can't say that I'm satisfied nor disappointed, but it sure is left something close to "that's it?" kind of vibe. I thought the tension was as good as the first film. And actually almost the whole thing felt like the first one. That's exactly what made it kinda "that's it?" The story didn't add anything new nor useful (well, of course beside Cillian Murphy's character). It basically left exactly where the 1st movie off, and yet they didn't try to add something even remotely interesting to the film or something we don't know yet. Good acting, good scores, and brilliant script. Just needed something to satisfy this expectations I guess.
Callan (1967)
They don't make spy series like this anymore...
I'm young, just entered my 20s and yet I know they don't make spy series like this anymore. Callan was light but has certain depth on each and every episode. The writing was unique and somehow relatable. It centered not only in storytelling but also character development (which in today's standard is a bit hard to find. At least a good one). I personally think that's what series should do: showing characters development/arcs that movies mostly can't do. And they executed it perfectly when they decided to write Callan.
Woodward was such a phenomenal gem in this one. He pictured Callan so perfectly. His fears, his dislikes, his interests, all was in the right place. It's as if he was born to play Callan. I have absolutely such a delightful time watching him.
Initially I'd give it a 8.5 but alas... But after I think about it again, Callan deserve a spot of 9 on IMDB.
Joker (2019)
The True Meaning of A Masterpiece
Been hyping Joker for the past 5 months (since the teaser trailer dropped) and it really lived up the expectation. If not, it felt better than any expectations out there.
When I watched the teaser, I know this movie will be that kind of movie that gets stuck in your head until you're no longer breathing air. It's solid, beautiful, disturbing, funny, and extremely memorable.
I love every second of it.
It's a no surprise that Joaquin Phoenix outdo himself (again) in this role. He has caught every essence of Arthur Fleck and executed it as uniquely possible.
Todd Phillips's direction was light but beyond meaningful. He helped Phoenix perfected his storytelling and it matched every main aspects of filmography; music, cinematography, editing, script, and of course acting.
The score from Hildur Gudnadottir was also an excellent match for the whole film. It's haunting, intimate, personal, daring, and unsettling. Her music really molded the film's soul from the very first scene. Just beautiful.
Watched it (so far) for three times. And I was in heavenly experience for three times. Go. Watch. It.
Wrote my first watch review on my blog fadhilasupriana.blogspot.com go check it out!
