The Whale (2022)
Powerful and Touching Film
I absolutely loved this film. I saw it alone and I'm glad I did. When the closing credits started rolling, the music and vibe was amazing, but I had to leave the theater right away. I really wanted to sit there longer and digest because I was so touched by the film. I rarely cry in films. :)
I thought the acting top to bottom was amazing. Obviously Brendan Fraser, but I was really taken by Sadie Sink too.
I love that it all took place in one setting as well. The apartment. That's hard to do and just a reflection of how powerful a film it was. And the opening sequence when it showed the black screen for him as the professor was super creative and effective.
Great great film and I hope it wins some Oscars. Brendan should definitely win one, but I hear there's some controversy so maybe he won't. Otherwise, I would place a bet on him.
Emily the Criminal (2022)
Aubrey moving up and for a reason...
I really like Aubrey Plaza a lot. I didn't know her much beyond Parks and Recreation and her deadpan comedy so I've been enjoying a different range from what I was accustomed to in her recent roles. White Lotus is when I first saw this new side and I thought she was effective, intense and mysterious (in a good way) and she commanded the screen. She's also gorgeous and has a fantastic figure. Seems super comfortable with her body as well.
I'm excited to keep seeing her up on the screen more often. This movie was good for 3/4 and then the story got kind of stupid and not believable, but it was still a pleasure to watch and easy to watch.
Fiddler's Journey to the Big Screen (2022)
Just Delightful
Such a pleasant film to watch. Norman is absolutely an amazing person and so talented clearly. It's amazing how the stars aligned for this production from top to bottom. Having so many interviews and stories from the actual people responsible for all aspects of the film made the difference for me. As well as the footage and images they were able to show which really helped tell the story and keep the audience interested and entertained. I went alone and was younger than everyone in the theater. I share this only to say what a great film for any age, and not even if you know or like the 1971 movie, but also an Interesting look at how films are made and how each department of a film works together and in this instance beautifully and successfully. Bravo...KUDOS TO THE DIRECTOR OF THE DOCUMENTARY TOO.
