Unexpected sadness

I wasn't expecting to get punched in the guts like this, but this episode with Maggie makes Three, are the two episodes that got me tearful. Truly one of the best episodes I've seen.

Dark Crystal was at first a wonderful movie. I rewatched it a few weeks ago, to get refreshed on the story, and I was amazed at how much it stood the test of time. Sure, the story was slower, the pace was dreamy some would say, but the puppets still looked amazing, the sets were so detailed, and the story really moved me. To be fair, whenever the weak are fighting tyranny and the strong, I am easily moved, but you get very involved in the story, and all the characters are amazing.

I hate the Skeksis with a passion but I have to be honest : the puppetry and what the Skeksis evoke is done so well that you can only have respect for the people working behind it.

Now, is the TV serie good ? Boy oh boy it is !!!! It's everything you wanted and even more. It's got the same dreamy vibe, but the pace has been improved. The story is amazing, of course, and kind of like Game of Thrones (back in the early seasons), they do not hesitate to kill characters, so when you see one of your favorite characters in danger, you know they have no safety net. What truly makes this serie amazing are : the puppets, and the voices. Having really talented actors behind every puppet makes such a difference. They feel so alive, it's really impressive. Second, the sets. Dammit the sets are amazing, everything is beautiful, and for some reason it's directed like a masterpiece. They won't give you half assed action scenes to save money, no, they will go full force, and it's truly impressive. Every single scene is filled with details, everything was hand crafted with passion, and dedication.

I haven't watched anything like this in the past few years. Every episode I was clenching my fists because I really hate the Skeksis now, and I was on the verge of tears for seeing such bravery from the Gelfling and Hup (who is now my all time favorite character).

I urge anyone who enjoys fantasy shows to watch it, and make noise for it, so that we get maybe more seasons, or more shows.

Bonus points for the soundtrack that was also another excellent part of the show. Some of the scenes of that season will stay with me forever.
