Stars and Stripes: Hollywood and World War II (1991)
Great documentary featuring interviews with those involved
This was a really great documentary about how Hollywood stepped up during WWII. There have been other documentaries produced about this period, but Stars and Stripes features interviews with surviving stars that volunteered, like Bob Hope and Frances Langford. There are some poignant moments in the interviews, and some funny behind-the-scenes stories. There are clips of war-time movies, some of the shows done for the troops, and moments in hospitals; all of which are not usually shown in other documentaries.
I have been hoping that this would be rereleased onto a streaming service like Amazon Prime, as I have found a lot of little-known documentaries there. I have even contacted AMC, but received a standard computerized response. Maybe someday...
Eureka (2006)
Fantastic!
There are so many things that I love about this show. Witty, intriguing plots, excellent casting, and just a wonderful premise.
Sure there are some plot holes, and some characters and story lines have disappeared abruptly, but there is great potential! I also really enjoy the "ship-in-a-bottle" style of keeping everything contained within the limits of Eureka. There is such a great wealth of story and character ideas that it isn't necessary to consistently leave the place the show is named for. This show isn't a typical sci-fi show the jocks and cool kids in high school labeled as a "geek" show. I see similarities with StarTrek:TNG and Firefly, but your every day lay person who doesn't typically view or read science fiction is going to want to watch. I love that the geeks and weirdos of the population on this show, are the average people! Jack and his daughter Zoey didn't arrive there like the typical Eurekan - and they seem to be in way over their heads.
All in all, a fabulous show and I sincerely hope it's picked up for additional seasons and getting more of the witty TV ads shown on prime-time broadcast television.
In Search of... (1977)
Facts, myths, legends, theories and conspiracies!
Every episode discusses a different scientific/historic subject. These subjects vary widely from "The Hindenburg Disaster" and "Pompeii" to "The Amityville Horrors" and "Sasquatch". Conspiracies, theories, urban-legends, and myths are discussed and investigated.
This TV show is being re-run on the History Channel, and in doing so has found new fans. I stumbled on an episode last year after recognizing the voice of Leonard Nimoy, and decided to watch and see what it was all about. It is interesting to see the views of the time (1976-82) on various subjects - compared to what we know today. The facts aren't always correct - however the show does hold my attention!
