Cheech and Chong's Next Movie (1980)
Edie McClurg + Paul Reubens/Pee Wee Herman - What's Not To Love Here?
This is my favorite C&C film.
Love the first but this one has Cheech in two roles: as himself and his hilarious redneck Texas cousin Red.
All of the supporting cast members are outstanding but the wonderful Edie McClurg steals the scenes she's in. And what can I say about Paul Reuben's' alter-ego Pee Wee Herman that hasn't been said a hundred times?
Love him or hate him, he's got a perfect group of actors to bounce his hilarious nonsense off. I love Pee Wee & Edie in this & so should you.
Cheech & Chong are their usual loopy, loveable stoner selves.
If you imbibe in cannabis or if you've never imbibed in your life this is a pure, enjoyable, deceptively dumb comedy film.
Gunsmoke: The Man Who Would Be Marshal (1957)
June Carter Cash!
I gave this an 8 because of the brief appearance by a very young June Carter. June Carter always impressed me as an actress and though she has less than five minutes in this episode she gives it her all in the time allotted.
I was disappointed in the choice of actor Herbert Rudley to portray the ex-Army martinet who wishes to replace Matt as town marshal. Rudley is better suited as stuffed-shirt types - bankers, outraged elected officials- not the gun-toting wanna-be marshal.
The ending of this episode felt rushed and it seemed more like a plot for The Andy Griffith Show than the noirish-Western series that the half-hour episodes of Gunsmoke often were.
Virtuous (2015)
God Awful
Unwatchable!!!
Jingoistic propaganda with a Christian slant.
Just stumbled upon this on late-night basic cable. It was so bad I couldn't change the channel.
Well intentioned but ...frankly... "preachy".
Dysfunctional Christian family faces contemporary trials (one daughter is captured and held hostage by the Taliban; another daughter murders a man in self defense after an attempted rape).
Heartfelt but mawkish. Amateurish acting.
Sure was great to see Erik Estrada again, though!
Needs more motorcycles & Larry Wilcox.
The Long Goodbye (1973)
Can A Confused Pop Culture Freak Find A Chuck Barris Connection Here?
Watched this film again last night for the 4th or 5th time in 20 years. I can add nothing to the brilliant observations already posted by other IMDb contributors. However, I did want to comment on a rather irrelevant aspect of Gould's performance. The Gould & Altman take on Chandler's "Marlowe" character struck a familiar chord with me. Watching Gould mutter, shrug & mug his way through THE LONG GOODBYE, I had a wild-hair of a notion that the persona adapted by notorious song-writer/game show creator/Gong Show host Chuck Barris seemed to have come directly from this film. Outrageous notion? Maybe. Irrelevant? Of course.
Dragnet: The Big Cast (1952)
Unforgettable Performance By Lee Marvin
Saw this one for the 1st time last night. Long been a fan of the original Dragnet series and had searched for a copy of this particular episode with Lee Marvin's legendary performance for a number of years. Rarely has a TV episode or a film lived up to my expectations. I knew I would enjoy this episode but I wasn't prepared for what a powerful entry in the series this would prove to be nor was I expecting such a solid, unforgettable portrayal by Lee Marvin. Don't know if he received an Emmy nomination for this episode but, God knows, he deserved one. If you are a fan of noir thrillers or films you'll take to this like a fly to sherbert.
