The Dark Backward (1991)
Completely Original.
This is one of those rare films that creates a unique feeling.
I do not even remember how I heard about this movie - but about 12 years ago, I happened to pick it up from the local video store, not knowing what to expect.
I laughed more than I have ever laughed at a movie before.
I am not a "comedy" person. I don't watch many sitcoms, or Adam Sandler movies, or romantic comedies. I like Sci-Fi, Horror, and the occasional dark comedy.
Dark Comedy is the ONLY way to describe this. If the Twilight Zone were a REAL place, this comedy would have been filmed there.
People who go into this movie expecting standard, spoon-fed, Hollywood comedy fare will HATE this movie. Hell, some of my friends who like all the same things I do hate this movie. HOWEVER. People who DO like this movie - are going to LOVE this movie. Over the years, I have shown this movie to over 100 people and (since most of them are like me - bright, but a little twisted) about 95% of them have LOVED it.
As screwed up as this movie is - it also has heart. And soul. Something movies so rarely seem to capture in a genuine capacity anymore.
If you want something sick, twisted, dry, and different - this movie is for you. If you want to see what Meg Ryan is up to with Tom Hanks this holiday season - stay away!
Rinne (2005)
decent. not great. but worth seeing.
Without giving anything away...
If you are a J-Horror fan... you will like this. If not... you should stay away.
That said... even if you ARE a J-Horror fan... don't expect anything on the level of Tale Of Two Sisters or Ju-On. Actually this movie is only a few steps above Marabito. Not to say its bad.... but its Asian pacing. There are a few really decent payoffs tho (especially toward the end).
I REALLY hate to say this.... but I could see this one being re-made... and being better than the original.
Hope you like it. I did.
6.5 out of 10.
