Spellbinder (1995)
Outstanding, Stands up well today as it did in 1995
I have rated this 10 out of 10 as it is a spellbinding to coin a phrase. I think the idea of parallel worlds is fascinating and the spellbinder world is truly remarkable, the scenery, special effects and lovable characters is what keeps you watching. The character Ashka is portrayed excellently by Heather Mitchell, Paul Reynolds is played by a superb actor in Zbych Trofimiuk- courage and determination is acted very well. All the characters in the series are played well, its a shame Zbych has not done more acting since, but for what he has done he has done very well. I think the most engrossing part was when Ashka arrived in Paul's world, with her power suit she really is unstoppable. The spellbinders are very interesting characters and children of today will still be wowed by the special effects. 26 episodes is a fine collection of episodes. Shame no UK release, but if you want something with a bit of imagination, good special effects, characters with depth then this is definitely for you!
Sliders (1995)
slidetastic
Well what can i say. Some may criticise this series for its last two seasons, but to me it fails to disappoint on all levels. The best two characters of the series were the Professor and Quinn, the first 2 seasons were outstanding interesting issues discussed such as global warming, virus, and how different events could have taken different courses. Wade and Rembrandt were both amazing characters, credit is due to Cleavant Derricks who stayed till the very end. It seems clear to me that season 3 was a dip from the heights of the first 2 seasons, but in no way was it awful, it contained some not so good episodes. Season 4 i think stands up well, the character Kari Wuhrer played was likable but perhaps it was unnecessary to have sex appeal in a science fiction programme. Colin Mallory was deviating a bit too far. Season 5 became more like traditional science fiction and less like sliders but it was still engrossing to watch, if a little far fetched. I still think it deserves a 10 as even at the very end it continued its charm and the programme has left us all hoping that the sliders will return some day. Maybe not so long as we think.
