Magnolia (1999)
Interesting, but rather overlong
22 April 2003
Having seen an extract of the film a while ago, I was compelled to watch the whole movie. On the whole, I felt general performances were good - Tom Cruise had an interesting role. However, the story seemed rather gloomy - to say the least! The "raining frog" scene was amusing; I would say this is definitely a film worth watching.

A "bionic woman" rip-off!
14 March 2003
Kim Cattrall stars as an undercover agent. She is ambushed by a well-known international arms dealer. Kim & her partner Billy Zane race her body to a secret government laboratory where she's turned into a cyborg. Despite the fairly good cast (including Diana Rigg), I found this film disappointing. Only watch it if there's REALLY nothing else good on!

Xchange (2001)
good idea for a film, so-so movie!
29 June 2002
Having read a review downgrading this futuristic thriller, I was pleasantly surprised: it seems to have the right ingredients to make it worthwhile: plenty of action scenes, a reasonable script and good acting from MacLachlan & Baldwin; special effects galore and fancy gadgetry. However, although the film's idea was good, overall I thought the movie was only so-so!

Dark, creepy, brooding... but fascinating!
20 April 2002
I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but this is definitely a must-see! Richard Kelly has certainly outdone himself! The mood is dark, creepy and brooding, although the film flickers between horror and intense drama. There may have been a few loop-holes here and there (e.g. how does Donnie get back to the past?). You'll probably need to see this thought-provoking film more than once to understand it better...

bit of a let-down!
27 October 2001
I felt the plot seemed interesting (although preposterous): the film seemed to have a good cast (although I admit not having heard of Macha Grenon before!), but the acting seemed disappointing, somewhat leaden, giving the general result of the film being a bit of a let-down for one's money!
