The X-Files: Grotesque (1996)
Season 3, Episode 14
5/10
Tries to cover too much..
27 April 2006
Grotesque (#3.14) fails in its attempt to portray Mulder stumbling down the rabbit-hole of obsession and fear mainly because the episode is given only 45 minutes to do so. Mulder's transformation from level-headed (for Mulder anyways) to covering the walls of his apartment with demonic drawings occurs quicker than comprehension allows, creating an unconvincing situation which may detach the causal viewer. Kurtwood Smith (Robocop) gives a wonderfully slimy performance (as usual) as Agent Patterson. Grotesque is refreshing in the sense that it is one of the few episodes in the series to not be concluded by supernatural or extraterrestrial themes.

Mario Tennis (I) (2000 Video Game)
Simple and easy yet exciting
8 July 2001
Mario Tennis is a fine game. With colorful graphics and solid gameplay, this is definitely one of the better Nintendo 64 games.

Veteran gamers might find the single player mode a little too easy, but for younger gamers it should be a blast. The best part of the game is the multiplayer. Up to four people can play simultaneously, in modes such as 2 versus 2. Another great feature is the numerous different courses and challenges. One court, for instance, tilts back and forth depending how you walk on it. There is also over 12 Nintendo characters to chose. From the most popular such as Mario, to old favorites such as Donkey Kong Jr., and to everyone's favorite nemesis, Bowser.

So although its not a Zelda or a Metal Gear Solid, Mario Tennis is still a fine game and is definitely worth a look if you enjoy exciting multiplayer action. Overall Score- 8/10

Komodo (1999)
3/10
Awful and boring...need I say more?
25 June 2001
This movie is horrible. The effects stink for a 1999 movie. The computer-generated lizards are obviously fake and do not look real in any way. The director would have been better off using puppets and robots instead. I guess where this movie goes wrong is in the overall plot. I don't want to reveal too much about the plot in case you would ever consider on watching it (and I strongly advise you not to!)

17 years ago, the komodo youngsters are brought to America and dumped on an island off the East Coast. They are exposed to a radioactive chemical (do I sense the plot of an early 90's childrens' cartoon about chemically mutated reptiles that are exposed to chemicals about seventeen years in the past?) and become ten foot giants that hide in the long grass and eat tourists. Well here's the story in one sentence: People go on island, people get eaten, etc. Predictable and monotonous; you'll say to yourself, "I'll shoot myself in the foot for renting this garbage."

So if you DO rent this movie, you'll soon realize that being on the island and being chased by the giant lizards is a lot more merciful than watching it. Overall Rating: 2/10- Predictable and plain boring.

No action, no violence, no nothing
24 June 2001
This movie had a lot of potential. A fairly popular cast, good acting, and a whole lot of baboons. But this movie failed to deliver what most action/horror film fans want: action and horror. The baboons are never shown killing anyone, just the scared look of the person, the baboon, and then it cuts to a different scene. In fact, the only reason that this movie is rated R is because of the bloody bodies people find. That's it, not even bad language. There is way too much pointless dialogue, which takes up probably 3/4 of the movie. The actual killer baboons are shown at a total time of 1/10 of the movie. So if you're looking for an awesome adventure in Africa where the heroes are blasting away killer animals, DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE. It is extremely boring and a waste of time. Overall rating: 2/10.

Dragon's Lair II: Timewarp (1991 Video Game)
10/10
A technical marvel
21 June 2001
The Dragon's Lair and Space Ace series were an amazing breakthrough in video game history. The third installment, Dragon's Lair II, was by far the best. With beautiful animation and well-acted voices, this one forced me to waste away my quarters at the old local arcade. Although now scarce, this arcade game was and still is the best video game ever!

Brink! (1998 TV Movie)
10/10
The most decent Disney Channel movie I've seen.
13 May 2001
There are some pretty crummy Disney Channel Original Movies out there. I mean Can of Worms was horrible and same with The Thirteenth Year. Both lacked twists in the plot and were just plain "cheesy." Brink on the other hand has more !. First of all, the "extreme sports" idea was great. That's what kids love these days so that's what probably "hooked" them to their televison sets. The music was decent, featuring some recent punk rock bands. Well at least better than The Thirteenth Year's ending credit music! Yuck! Well anyways, Brink delivers a fresh, funny, and realistic situation in which four teens experience a "Rollerblading Odyssey." This movie has got it all: Friendship, betrayal, rivalry, hate, revenge etc. It has all the qualities of becoming an Academy Award winning epic! Um...ok, maybe not. But it is still a whole lot of fun to watch.

Surf Ninjas (1993)
10/10
Cheesey Fun
12 February 2001
I found this movie to be very entertaining. So what if the costumes look cheap and the martial arts moves are obviously fake. It's just good, cheesey fun. Iggy, one of the main characters, is hilarious. Played by Rob Schneider (SNL, Deuce Bigalow). So if you don't know what to rent at Blockbuster, rent Surf Ninjas for good, cheesey fun.
