Not Another Church Movie may not be your typical A-to-Z film, but it certainly delivers where it counts-laughter and entertainment! The movie shines brightest through its sketch-comedy-like structure, with various add-on characters bringing a wave of hilarity in their brief but memorable appearances. The dynamic between the main character and his brother provides some of the funniest moments, sparking laughter with their quirky interactions.

Additionally, Johnny Mack's intricate understanding of the genre is evident in the way he crafts each scene with meticulous attention to detail, making the film a treasure trove of cultural references. While some jokes may fly over the heads of those unfamiliar with Tyler Perry's works, fans will find a rich layer of humor tailored just for them. Overall, it's a film that, as my friend aptly put it, "It's not a great movie, but it's definitely a great time!" If you're looking for a light-hearted, enjoyable watch, "Not Another Church Movie" is sure to deliver.

I'm impressed
7 April 2024
This film, despite its modest budget and being shot on an iPhone, is remarkably well-executed.

It shines in its detailed character development, engaging the audience deeply with their stories. This focus on character depth is a welcome departure from the usual approach in low-budget found footage films, which often overlook the importance of well-rounded characters.

There are many subtle elements that might be missed at first glance, making a second watch worthwhile.

The film will surely appeal to its target audience, though it may not satisfy those looking for high levels of gore. It's clear that the filmmakers approach the project with a light-hearted attitude, showing a deep respect for the horror genre. Throughout, there are clever, hidden homages to classic horror films and tales, with some more obvious references like Blair Witch, all delivered with a playful, tongue-in-cheek tone. It's this sense of fun that really made the experience enjoyable for me.

Watching this in 2024
20 March 2024
This film masterfully balances the electrifying essence of a classic true crime mystery with the depth of a nuanced family drama, reminiscent of "Three Billboards." It leans more towards being a captivating mystery than a traditional thriller, yet it skillfully maintains an atmosphere filled with suspense and a pervasive sense of melancholy. The clever use of settings enhances the sinister ambiance, perfectly complementing the central theme of a high-reaching conspiracy. The plot is replete with unexpected twists and misleading clues, making it a particularly satisfying experience for fans of "Cold Case" or true crime enthusiasts.

The lead performances are exceptional. Shanola Hampton, known for her role in "Shameless," evokes the prowess of Cynthia Erivo, and then forges her unique path with a performance that is both powerful and emotionally resonant. Robyn Lively shoulders a significant part of the film, delivering a portrayal that's both authentic and raw, convincingly conveying her character's inner drive and instincts. A nod also goes to Stan Houston, who intriguingly blurs the lines between a malevolent and a merely exasperated sheriff, adding another layer to the film's mystery. The casting for the supporting roles is equally commendable. This film is definitely worth watching!

Great series
19 March 2024
Narcissists of New York City, a standout 2023 series, artfully blends humor and heartfelt storytelling. The show revolves around four unique narcissists sharing an apartment in New York, each seeking fame to fill a void of self-worth. Their interactions, laced with irony and comedy, reveal their delusions and flaws, offering viewers both laughter and introspection.

The series excels in its nuanced exploration of each character's emotional triggers and past traumas, balancing sensitive moments with sharp humor. As the characters develop a symbiotic and surprisingly touching relationship, the show masterfully portrays the complexities of human emotions and relationships.

With a diverse cast of secondary characters enhancing the narrative, Narcissists of New York City emerges as a fresh, engaging take on comedy. It skilfully mixes light-heartedness with depth, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating the next season. This series is a must-watch for its clever storytelling and its reflection of our own narcissistic tendencies in a humorously insightful way.

Loved it
16 March 2024
This flick is a stand out for several compelling reasons, making it a must-see. It's fascinating to see how the screenplay effectively depicts the early days of Amazon. However, I noticed the depiction of Jeff Bezos lacked the level of critique one might anticipate in the current climate. Delving into the background of the production company behind this film revealed their commendable focus on amplifying Hispanic voices and actors in their independent cinema ventures. This aspect of the film particularly resonated with me, adding a unique and culturally rich dimension to the storytelling. The involvement of esteemed Hispanic composer Emilio Estefan further elevates the film's appeal, adding a touch of musical brilliance. Watching this film feels like a more meaningful investment of time and resources, especially when considering the burgeoning journey of independent filmmakers as opposed to the already well-established trajectory of figures like Bezos. It's a refreshing change to support emerging talents in the film industry, witnessing their creative endeavors unfold.

Insanely Good Chemistry
28 January 2024
Pierce Brosnan and Morena Baccarin have this witty banter that's just spot on. They throw jokes back and forth even in the middle of action scenes, which adds a layer of fun to the whole thing. And those little funny moments scattered throughout the film? They're perfectly timed, giving you a chance to catch your breath between the high-stakes scenes. It's this cool mix of tension and humor. One minute you're totally gripped by what's happening, and the next, you're laughing out loud. Hitting that balance is pretty tough, but 'Fast Charlie' nails it. The humor gives the film a unique feel, making it more than just a series of explosions and car chases. It's got personality.

Joe Davidson shines as the fresh face in Sons of Summer, delivering a performance that is both convincing and promising. The film strikes a fine balance between action and drama, peppered with excellent surfing sequences. It's an easy-going, down-to-earth movie that's a joy to watch.

The storyline is engaging, and the film's setting along the picturesque Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, adds to its charm with beautiful beach and scenic views. It's a complete package-great story, stunning visuals, surfing, and solid acting. I'm eager to see this again for sure. Good quality film with a solid script.

1 December 2023
Caylee Cowan's charm and Sean Astin's humor blend seamlessly, creating a magnetic on-screen chemistry that's both heartwarming and engaging. The film beautifully captures the holiday spirit through its stunning cinematography and a soundtrack that complements the festive atmosphere.

Blending Legacy with Women's Artistic Journeys
29 November 2023
As a seasoned fan of both theatre and cinema, I found the documentary bonus on The Red Shoes to be a superb exploration of its enduring impact. The choice to set this feature in The Royal Opera House couldn't be more fitting, given its historical ties to the film and its esteemed status within the Royal Ballet Company.

The inclusion of Shannon Davidson and Ashley Shaw is a masterstroke. Davidson, embodying Moira Shearer, and Shaw, with her experience in the ballet adaptation of The Red Shoes, bring a level of authenticity to the discussion that's hard to match. Their dialogue transcends a simple homage, bridging the gap between different epochs and interpretations of this classic story. It's particularly insightful to hear their perspectives on the unique challenges and pressures that women face in the performing arts.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of The Red Shoes, this feature does more than just honor a timeless masterpiece; it opens up an important conversation about the ongoing issues in the industry. The exchange between Davidson and Shaw, informed by their rich experiences, provides a deep dive into the performing arts world, shedding light on both its historical significance and contemporary struggles and triumphs.

It's a well rounded movie
18 November 2023
It's not just about laughs; it's about rediscovering oneself in the midst of youthful chaos. The depiction of college life is spot-on, complete with parties, friendship struggles, and the quest for identity, making it a perfect watch for young adults. Robertson's portrayal of Molly is both inspirational and relatable, embodying the energy and charm needed to navigate young adulthood.

What makes this film particularly appealing is its message of growth and self-discovery. Watching Molly's evolution and her influence on Elliot offers a fresh take on tackling life's hurdles with positivity. This strikes the perfect balance between humor and heartfelt moments. It's a must-watch for anyone who loves a good college comedy mixed with genuine life lessons, making it an ideal film for young audiences seeking both entertainment and inspiration.

Forever Young (2023)
9/10
Quality flick
18 November 2023
Forever Young really caught my eye with its inventive plot. It's about a older woman who gets a chance to reverse aging and experience life anew. The idea is super intriguing - it's like a fantasy scenario we all probably think about at some point.

The movie does a great job balancing the excitement and complexities of regaining youth. There's a good mix of humor, drama, and thought-provoking moments. The acting is solid, bringing a lot of depth to the characters' journey through this unusual situation.

This is for sure a refreshing take on the age-old question of 'what if you could turn back time?' It's definitely a film that leaves you thinking and appreciating the life you have. Great for a movie night, especially if you're into films that blend a bit of fantasy with real-world emotions.

Open (I) (2023)

Surprisingly good
12 November 2023
This film proved to be an unexpected gem. Initially drawn to the movie by the sight of Jeremy London, famed for his role in "Mallrats," donning a wig and wielding a guitar, my curiosity was piqued. This intrigue was not in vain, as "Open" turned out to be a killer movie with equally killer songs.

The film tells the story of a woman struggling in her marriage, who becomes enamored with a former teen idol, portrayed compellingly by London. His character, once a celebrated figure, has seen better days in the industry, adding a layer of depth to the narrative. The standout feature of this film is its clever use of hallucinatory sequences where the protagonist imagines herself as the frontwoman of an 80's New Wave Band. These moments are not only visually stunning but also serve as powerful metaphors for her internal struggles and aspirations.

Jeremy London delivers what might be the performance of his career in this film. While I have always admired his work in "Mallrats" and am still hopeful for a "Mallrats 2," his portrayal in "Open" brings a new level of depth and nuance. The film itself is a delightful blend of drama, romance, and a nostalgic journey through the music of a bygone era. It's an emotional ride, with the music and visuals complementing the storyline beautifully, making Open not just a movie but an experience. For anyone looking for a film that combines great acting, an engaging story, and memorable music, Open is a must-watch.

Freaky Deaky (2012)
9/10
Solid flick
14 October 2023
Freaky Deaky follows the journey of a former bomb squad officer who finds himself immersed in an investigation encompassing themes of sexual assault, retribution, and explosive intrigue, all set against the backdrop of the year 1974. Initially, this film appears to be on the verge of chaos, but an unexpected twist soon immerses viewers into its absurd world. The credit for this immersion primarily goes to the creatively intriguing characters that inhabit this 1970s universe. As the narrative unfolds, each character seems to have their moment in the spotlight, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of this eccentric dark comedy. While the storyline may occasionally feel disoriented, it manages to hold together reasonably well, thanks to the eccentricity of its characters and the unusual circumstances they find themselves in.

Though far from flawless, Freaky Deaky delivers a largely enjoyable experience. While there are moments that may seem incongruous or contrived, overall, the film manages to strike a satisfying balance. If you're a fan of other Leonard films, you'll likely find this one equally appealing, as it maintains a sense of continuity within the Leonard cinematic universe. Furthermore, the peculiar dynamic between Michael Jai White and Crispin Glover's characters alone makes this movie worth the watch.

Weekend movie
2 September 2023
This film is ideal for a slow-burning movie enthusiast like myself. I have a deep appreciation for this genre, which seems to be a rarity these days, if not almost nonexistent. It's a film that elicits either love or hate reactions. Personally, I found it to be quite enjoyable, featuring remarkable cinematography and moments filled with tension and excitement. This movie truly shines when watched on a larger screen with excellent sound quality. The outstanding sets and lifelike scenery were truly impressive. I found myself enjoying it more than I initially expected. Perhaps you will too! Well done.

A Thrilling Story About Guilt and Second Chances
24 August 2023
So, "The Good Neighbor" is one intense ride. You've got David, played by Luke Kleintank, dealing with some heavy guilt after accidentally causing the death of Vanessa's sister. Eloise Smyth as Vanessa really tugs at your heartstrings. But here's the kicker - Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Robert is like the perfect villain, giving you chills with his manipulative vibes. That conflict between David and Robert is like the heartbeat of the movie. It's all about redemption, secrets, and how far these characters will go. Trust me, the tension and twists are real, making it a must-watch if you're into those psychological rollercoasters.

Dungeon (2023)
10/10
A well crafted mystery film
15 July 2023
If your looking for a real mystery film this is it. Other filmmakers take note. This is how you make a film without dragging out the plot all the way to the end. Dungeon starts of understanding the main characters and as we progress we really get to see things unfold. The main lead who plays Richard is super talented and had so much passion and realism in his acting, he made it that much more convincing as that was important in a film like this. Everything else seem to gel well with the twists as we get to witness Richard Gates fight for his life. There's plenty of things going on in this film but it's all connected. Great filmmaking, well done!

I'm impressed
3 July 2023
Summoning the Spirit has everything you would expect in a horror film. I thought the bigfoot concept was interesting and unique in it's own way. The plot didn't drag out and this had my attention right to the very end of the flick. The actors were on point and seemed to have passion and were all really into their characters which was important. The plot can be silly at times but it's unique and that's what made it interesting to watch. I'm usually guessing what happens next in these types of films but this one toke me by surprise. I'm giving this a 8. The ending isn't what you would expect and most horror films get me bored midway but this doesn't.

So funny
26 June 2023
Literally one of my favorite comedies ever. I am only 23 and quite frankly I could relate to some of Percy's troubles when it comes to being shy and dorky. Although unlike him, I turned out to be gay but that's besides the point. The best parts of the movie were the beach scene and the scene where the whole theater laughed - "did you come too?"

Would watch again. I can't wait to own this movie on DVD. Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Feldman know how to captivate an audience! You are reminded of the grade-A comedy that came out of the early 2000s when viewing this film. This will be the hit you turn to when you just need a good laugh!

Asteroid City (2023)
10/10
I loved it
26 June 2023
Asteroid City is one of my favorite movies made by Wes Anderson. I think the details in the movie are great as they are Anderson's signature style, the cast is a really good pick for a movie like Asteroid City, and the feeling of America in the 50s was nostalgic coming from Gen Z. I even loved the alien, the amount of details it had was more original, due to amount of aliens being depicted as green with black eyes, which is very smart. I also liked the parts outside of the "Asteroid City" storyline, where it showed how the actors, director and playwright's life was like on and off set. In conclusion, Asteroid City, in my opinion, is a great movie that takes place in a Sci-Fi storyline with comedy. Also, I loved Scarlett Johansson's role in it, it was very good.
