Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Will take you into a World you really don't care about...
Alice in Wonderland will take you into a World you really don't care about and give you characters you really don't seem to care for. It will give you CG you will look at each other and question and an ending you knew was going to happen. Nothing wrong with the actors; they do their thing as in accordance to the script provided and the voices of the little CG puppets, comuppets, cuppets or whatever we want to call them are well cast too. I am really not sure why this was such a yawn fest; maybe it's my age, maybe I am just too hard to please and expect too much; maybe I took too many recreational drugs in my youth and it takes a lot to get me excited now, or maybe it was just pretty boring; who knows?
Moon (2009)
Superb!...just like the excellent sci-fi from the 70's
claustrophobic, intentionally slow paced scenes which I felt was right as it helps promote the feeling of isolation. Every time I thought there was a plot hole or something didn't make sense it would give the right explanation. I can see the influences from 70's movies such as Solaris, Saturn 3, Demon Seed, and the great Silent Running. The acting and choice of actors was perfect. The science behind the Moonbase is all plausible. I feel I could watch this movie again. I thought the technology used was appropriate to how it would be; no Buck Rogers 'Twikis' in this. I thought, maybe the wrong choice of words, but it was a 'very down to Earth' movie except it's on the moon. Don't watch if you want a migraine of a movie like Transformers 2.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
Just lots of wood, metal and cheese from Michael Bay Watch
And I don't mean lots of wood for Megan Fox. I mean the acting. Shia Labeouf; wheres the beef more like; whats he all about? Whats the draw there? Josh Duhamel was the only decent actor and he was largely in the background. I guess its written for kids. The movie was like a bad migraine; I wanted to sit in a quiet dark room for it all to stop. Effects were good but it does not save the movie at all. I hate the slushy cheesy love ballards that are cut too play when the characters appear together; the slow motion focus on Megan Fox walking and how she appears on screen with her own ballard playing in the background just like a bad cheese laden Peter and the Wolf.
Riders (2002)
Roller Bladers stealing money?? out run hundreds of cops?
Roller Bladers stealing money? They can out run hundreds of cops with their freestyle skills?? and then they take of their masks and change into civilian clothing and guess what? they are all good looking people, one is a beach blonde guy one is a blonde women and one is an African American!? (cliche!) I don't know about you but the chances of a bunch of overly attractive people being able to skate like that with out at least one accident (ever seen a skate video) is pretty remote and when they take their robber out fits off at the end to change in to suits and stuff, well they would be covered in sweat and would pretty much stink! And who would come up with such a dumb plan like that anyway? Was this story written by a 5 year old? I can't tell you anymore about this film because I switched it off at this point before it turned my brain to mush!
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
How depressing! geared for the overly sentimental US market.
Good acting, good script but just really boring, I gave up on the character, which may say more about me. I saw the message the film was trying to deliver but this was about a guy who born under a lucky star. This film was not about a guy struggling at the bottom to work his way up, it is about a guy clearly born under a lucky star where everything just went wrong in his life. Just as there seemed to be a glimmer of hope, it was all snatched away again. I hated this film, it was very very depressing, I had to switch it off in the end as I was thinking about topping myself. I think the film was more geared up for the overly sentimental US market.
The Big Bounce (2004)
Who's scamming who?
I tell you who, they are scamming us, that's for sure.
After reading on the back of the DVD case in Blockbuster the words 'A comedy', 'Get Shorty' and 'Based on the Novel' and seeing the all star cast line up, I thought this looks like a potentially great movie, but when I got it home, got myself all comfortable by sitting down with Pizza, Wine and friends, and then switched it on, I felt like I had been given the wrong movie. Our night was ruined because of this, it just put us all on downers, and everyone left early.
This was a flat stale piece of un-funny junk, no wonder people take to downloading movies, they feel they don't want to risk parting with their money.
I could direct and write a much funnier movie than this dribble with my eyes closed. I feel really sorry for these great actors who were dragged into this mush. Although I am sure they had a great vacation together in Hawaii and enjoyed the pay cheque, it did not do their reputations to great.
This film was painfully dull to watch, so much it hurt, and now to add insult to injury I have got to go all the way back to the video shop to take the damn thing back.
Sigh!
