Wonderful Book Adaptation
5 November 2023
An amazing adaptation of the the book.

I always worried that when books are adapted into movies, there will be much lacking... in order to fit in the "modern interests".

This movie did a wonderful job of adapting one of my favourite books. So many worked "underground" to help stop the Nazi's. And while this is based on historic fiction, there has for be rumours or stories told. Many times, if you had the right clearance, you would know stories are truth.

When good comes together to fight evil, there Is nothing that can stop it in the end.

We thought war was a thing of the past...but we have seen the horrors in Ukraine and the killing of civilians in Gaza. There are still people that can make a difference ...

A must watch and read. Thank you Shawn Levy for your commitment to bring this book to the screen.

It's Not Enough
28 October 2023
The ratings are legit. The acting is at best average, with a few that were just awful... that being said, this story, this horrible horrible story happens IN YOUR TOWN AND CITY. It happens worldwide. In 2023 there are more than 22 million child being trafficked across the world, and the US is where the worst of it, where many of these children end up.

The internet makes it much easier for this to happen. Children are lured through online gaming and social media. Teens meet a "boyfriend" online who convinces them to meet, and the teen is taken to another city, province, country or the trafficking happens down the road, and they are told if they don't keep doing it or tell someone, their parents, siblings or someone they love will be hurt or killed.

Educate your children, make sure you stay involved with their online use, make it a regular thing. It's the easiest way to protect your kids.

Also recommend watching The Sound of Freedom.

Trafficked (2017)

Since 2017 Things Have Gotten Worse
28 October 2023
More than 22 million children worldwide are being trafficked as of 2023. This movie is very important for parents to watch with their teens. It's shocking what tactics are used to take teens, including:
  • befriending one at a library (yes, this happens frequently!)
  • through games online
  • through social media
  • through so called modelling agencies (that are not legit)
  • work abroad scenarios (again, companies that are NOT legit)
This horrible horrible thing, perpetuated by MEN, needs to stop. We need to protect children and the adults who are forced to participate in trafficking. It's not the creepy guys down the street, it's the "regular" looking people, even those considered to be "hot" that are the ones managing everything.

Watch this movie... and then watch The Sound of Freedom, and take a look at the Child Liberation Foundation.

Watch When You Have Energy To Follow
29 January 2023
Added this movie to our watchlist as it was nominated for an Oscar. Cate Blanchett is a fantastic actor. We managed to get 18 minutes into it. First 5 minutes were movie credits. Next 13 minutes was an interview with "Tár" talking about a multitude of different parts of her life including other Maestro's. The conversation started out interesting, included some things I hadn't known. I appreciated the conversation about gender and how it impacted the history of conductors. But then it just kept going... it was like sitting in a lecture hall for a class that was mandatory to take in College/University, and you needed to drink a lot of coffee to stay awake. I'm sure this movie is valuable, but if you don't have a lot of attention or if you've had a long day, I don't recommend.

Shocking Truths
28 January 2023
My older brother is developmentally disabled. He was born in 1965 and spent a number of years living in Edgar north of Barrie, Ontario. I'm thankful my mother was very connected with him there, she felt it was a good place for him with caring people who would help him build life skills. There was also a class action lawsuit brought against the government for that institution. It wasn't a safe place either, even though families were led to believe this.

Sexual assault, abuse, neglect and horrible things one could never imagine...although the more we learn about history them more we learn that these shocking things were commonplace.

I've been to the HRC grounds (now belonging to the OPP). I never was in the buildings, but walked the graveyard/monument. Many graves were only numbered...Clients who lost their identity when they came to HRC. And there were many buried without a marking.

This is a very good documentary. It's a must watch. This needs to be known. There are horrible things in the history of Canada. We need to do everything possible to make amends and never ever let anything like this happen again.

Absolutely Incredible
16 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
We all know of the story of the thirteen. But more than the thirteen were in the caves. Amazon has done amazing depicting the heroic acts of people from around the world who came together to save the boys and their coach. I didn't realize what they had to do inotrder to accomplish this.

Suman Kuban, who perished early on in the edfort, was a huge part of figuring out how to rescue those trapped. It's sad he wasn't alive to see what was accomplished, but he is a hero as much as others.

Beirut Parkaba, who lost his life after the fact, was a hero as well.

All the over 5,000 people from across the world who came together, are hero's. And the farmers who gave up their livelihoods to save to boys. Heros as well.

This movie was very well done. Not surprised Ron Howard was involved.

Highly recommend. Keep some Kleenex handy.

Well Worth Watching
23 August 2022
Movies based on true stories are always so much better. Well acted by Mark Wahlberg with a great cast of supporting characters. A really great story of a real person, changing his life for the better, fightng through struggles and not giving up.

Highly recommended.

A bit of Goonies, a bit of Pirates of the Carribean, mix in National Treasure, some Journey to the Centre of the Earth and it's a fun adventure. Entertaining and worth the time to watch.

It IS A True Story!
27 March 2022
If it wasn't based on a true story it would be unbelievable. This is a fantastic, feel good story. Great family movie, okay for any age. Highly recommended, especially if you like stories about underdogs (pun not intended...lol).

I'm still trying to sort out exactly what I feel about this movie, but weird is the only thing that comes to mind. The music, weird. Many of the scenes, weird.

WTF
8 January 2022
This movie is touted as "fantastic", "entertaining", and a bunch of other positive words. What it is, is a bunch of big name actors, playing dumb and over emotional people, mainly the women. A stupid female president who is more concerned about how she's seen than saving the country, a ditzy singing star who is in love with a narcissist, a female scientist who can't stop crying, and a bunch of men who are fine, wondering what's wrong with the women. And then the women being ok with the stupidity. Bad. This is just a bad movie and I am super disappointed Netflix.

Very Cleverly Done

I've enjoyed all Ghostbusters. This one was just as good and I really liked how it felt more like the originals. Harold Ramis should have been given a post-humus credit though.

A Solid Movie. Worth Watching.
30 October 2021
While the storyline is a little thin on the full impact or the loss of someone and sorting out mental health, it does a good job of showing different sides. Just the right mix of sad and happy to have an impact. Mental health is no joke and there should continue to be more light shone on the struggle. Great choice on actors.

It Has A Lot Of Promise But...
24 October 2021
The previews looked good, well know actors, interesting story and because of them I knew there would be some violence. The further into the movie the more violence. I realize the 1300's were very violent...I think a lot of it would have gotten across in the story without so much actually added in. I do enjoy historic movies a lot, and this has a great story. But with all the violence I won't watch it again.

Engaging Twist On An Old Fairytale
23 October 2021
Watched it with tweens. They were totally sucked in to it. Us adults enjoyed it as well. Definitely comparable with the Goosebumps series. Was an enjoyable watch and should be rated higher.

Very, Very Well Done
15 October 2021
The absolute true world of someone living as a domestic violence victim. So many struggles, ups and downs, pain, love, heartbreak, success, failure, strength. Domestic violence isn't always bruises and bleeding. It can be financial control, mental abuse, threats, violence nearby but not at. More women need help like the main character in the series. And more people need to step up and day something when they know someone is being abused. Well done Netflix. Thank you.

A Wonderful Story
26 September 2021
This is just a really great movie to watch. I saw my older brother in this, who is Special Needs. He would love to go on an adventure to meet his favourite WWE wrestler. A great evening movie, to not have to think about too much and enjoy. Highly recommend.

M. Night Doesn't Disappoint
27 July 2021
I was excited when this movie was released into theatre's! We haven't been to see a movie in the theatre since December 2019 and this was great for a beginning to return to normal.

Engaging and super interesting twist...as usual. If you have enjoyed his movies in the past, make a plan to see this one. M. Night is actually in it more as well.

Another Fantastic Movie
27 June 2021
I have been waiting for this movie! It was worth the wait.

Entertaining, great characters and LOVE the storyline that I hope is building up to a live action follow-up. (I suppose it is a prequel to 101 Dalmatians)

Young kids may not enjoy it so much, but definitely 10+.

Would watch again!

Way Better Than Current Ratings
27 June 2021
I'm certainty glad I didn't check ratings here before watching this movie... because at the current 5.6 rating, we wouldn't have watch it.

This movie is entertaining! Comedy and some drama mixed in, with a dose of strong women, and an engaging storyline. Really enjoyed it and would watch again. A great Saturday night movie...for after the kids go to bed.

I never like to say anything was good about what the Nazi's did to the millions of innocent people during WWII, but this movie is a must watch, a good watch. See the story from the side of another innocent.

I Don't Understand Why
5 April 2021
The storyline has huge promise especially defining PTSD in the scope of the different ways people suffer. But this movie, awful. You can portray PTSD, with whatever goes along with it, without the insane sex scenes. When you start watching it, and think "give it 5 more minutes", don't. Total waste of 2-hours and 18-minutes. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.
