Neko no ongaeshi (2002)
fantasy and lovely imagination
One of the film's greatest strengths lies in its vibrant animation and imaginative world-building. The Cat Kingdom is depicted with breathtaking detail, from its towering palaces to its bustling streets filled with feline inhabitants. The character designs are equally impressive, with each cat possessing its own distinct personality and charm. Overall, "The Cat Returns" is a captivating and endearing film that captures the imagination and touches the heart. With its stunning animation, engaging characters, and charming storytelling, this film will always have its place as a beloved classic in the Studio Ghibli canon.
The Expanse (2015)
one of the best space shows in the past decade!!
I am a big fan of space-based TV shows/films. I watched almost all the space realated tv shows and films out there. This one is definitely the best one in the past ten years. All the tech in the show look so real and there are not too many flaws that are against the physical laws. As for the plots and scenes, it's also quite intriguing. The only pity is the show was canceled in the end. Hopefully some other companies, maybe Netflix or Hulu, could pick it up and finish the last three books, i.e. Persepolis Rising, Tiamat's Wrath, as well as Leviathan Falls. We fans would be so grateful if the last three books could be filmed by any studios!
Interstellar (2014)
Amazing and stunning
This is definitely one of the best sci-fi films about outer space exploration. Most of the scenes on alien planets were performed based on sciences we have learned so far, which makes the film more attractive and feel so real in comparison to those purely fictional films, like Marvel's superheroes. Hopefully our planet could last longer than we expect as people start to realize the importance of protecting our motherland Earth. Even though we all know earth will finally die when the sun of our solar system runs out of fusion energy, I still believe our human civilization could survive somewhere in the universe, as long as we don't give up pursuing science/technology and lose faith in humanity.
Oldeuboi (2003)
worth watching and thinking
Frankly speaking, it's a great film, even though the storyline seems absurd, shocking, and against the common social morality. Never gossip others' personal life as long as it wouldn't interfere with our own interests. People should learn to respect and tolerate with each other's social behavior as long as it wouldn't physically hurt anyone and do real harm to the stability of our society. At the very least, if you don't agree with other people's "bizarre" but non-harmful behavior, you can simply choose not to socialize with them and let them be. People should never ever publicly expose others' privacy, let alone insulting those who are different from us. Anyway, I think we all can learn a thing or two from this movie, even though most of us might feel extremely uncomfortable with these shocking scenes.
The Korean War: Fire and Ice (1999)
Very valuable footages about the Korean war
This documentary included a lot of valueless footages. Seems very neutral interviews and narrations. People should know what really happened during that time and eventually learn some lessons from the war. Undoubtedly, this "police action" was a real tragedy not only for the American troops and the Chinese soldiers, but also for the countless Korean people. Too many civilians were killed in this battlefield. I couldn't agree more with the narrative that this war was nothing but a wrong war with the wrong enemy at a wrong time. No war could really solve any problem but create more hatred. Good job with this documentary!
Tiananmen (2019)
Shocking tragedy and shame on killers!
Very sad story and shame on those killers!! Hope one day China would memorize and honor all the victims who were killed by the PLA. These students are just innocent but fighting for liberty and democracy. They deserve a memorial by the whole country! We should all keep in mind that dictatorship and authoritarian regimes did nothing but ruined the world and humanity!
