Pride and Prejudice (1995)
Wonderful - the dialogue is straight out of the book
This series was so good and I enjoyed it so much that I had to read the book again. The dialogue is almost all straight from the book. The few scenes that are not in the book have been devised to give examples of some general comments the author makes. E.g. the scene when Mr. Darcy's sister is playing the piano and is upset by a comment about her former lover, and Elizabeth rushes over to turn the pages for her, covering up her embarrassment. This film demonstrates that explicit sex is not needed to convey romantic feelings, not if the actors are good. The way the characters look at one another says it all.
New Moon (1940)
Many wonderful songs. Makes me feel good to watch it.
This movie is filled with wonderful songs. The voices of Jeanette and Nelson blend wonderfully. It is a joy to watch and listen to. I find myself singing along with them. It also has gentle humor in it. And Jeanette MacDonald is beautiful and radiant as always.
