Funny Stuff
8 February 2024
Full disclosure: I'm a Broken Lizard fan. I try to catch everything they do, even though their movies I find to be either hit or miss. There are some I like to rewatch every so often; some Ive only seen once. All of them are worth a watch.

Tacoma FD, while technically not a Broken Lizard production, it is written and directed by some of the members , and stars the two I find funniest. If you are a Lizard fan, this one wont disappoint. It's definitely the most consistently funny thing they've ever done.

The show takes place in a fire station centered around a group of firefighters. It is very well cast, and the characters will eventually become so familiar that you feel you really know them. The writing is clever and the humor is raunchy. Destined to be watched and rewatched by myself many times, I hope this one plays for many years to come.

Why All the Hate
13 January 2024
This movie inevitably is gonna be compared to Mission Impossible. Does it rise to that movie's brilliance? No, not even close, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.

The movie is well made, filmed in diverse locations, decently acted, and best of all, packed with glorious action from start to finish. The CGI is good, stunts are great, and fights are well choreographed. You can tell Netflix afforded it substantial coin.

That said, it's not perfect. The plot is thin, dialog forced, and ultimately fairly predictable. Some of the characters were not fleshed out well and came across as unbelievable.

In the end, this movie is supposed to be a popcorn flick. A respite from the real world. Don't overthink it: leave your brain at the door and sit back and enjoy the ride. I know I did.

Funny Love Story Disguised as an Action Thriller
24 October 2021
I've been passing up this movie on Netflix for about a week, unsure if it would something I would enjoy. I am a fan of Scandinavian movies, however, so I took a closer look one lazy Sunday and noticed it starred one of my favorite actresses, Noomi Rapace; I knew then it couldn't be missed. Her co-star is Askel Hennie, a Norwegian actor and the star of Headhunters, another great movie that shouldn't be missed. If you like your movies well acted, violent, super bloody, and with a healthy amount of black humor, this movie does not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

One of the Funniest Movies Ever Made

This movie, while overshadowed by Airplane, is none the less hilarious. This flick is packed full of gags from start to finish. One of my favorite movies of all time.

I Was Expecting More
10 October 2021
This movie isn't bad, in fact it's pretty decent, but it does not rise to the level of the Soprano series. I was under the impression that the movie would be centered on a young Tony, but he is just basically just a supporting character to Dickie Moltisanti. I expected, and wanted this movie to be about the rise of Tony into the upper echelons of organized crime, but it instead told a story that I wasn't really interested or invested in. Again, this movie is well made, but it just feels to me to be the "lite" version of the Sopranos.

Irreverent, Goofy, and Violent. This Movie's a Blast!
6 August 2021
The first Suicide Squad was a good movie, but it made the mistake of taking it itself too seriously. The sequel takes the opposite approach and churns out a two hour, slightly humorous, non-stop action movie, a fun adventure from start to finish. It's certainly no masterpiece, but if you like bloody movies, it's hard to beat the mindless violent entertainment this movie offers. Check it out.

Probably the Best Show on Netflix
21 June 2021
Don't let the fact that it's a french show dissuade you. It is dubbed in English very well, so you wont have to read subtitles to enjoy it. The acting, writing, and pacing are superior to most anything on TV these day. Its a thriller, mystery, and crime drama rolled up into one. Don't hesitate, watch this one as soon as you get the chance.

Decent....
20 June 2021
Let's get things straight, this movie is a B movie through and trough. It's not great, but it's not bad either and will suffice as an evening's entertainment. It's worth a watch.

Not What I Expected.......in a Good Way
13 June 2021
I didn't really plan to watch this, I just figured it was a kid's show; It isn't, the series is far too dark to be. It's a mystery wrapped up in a post-apocalyptic adventure. Once the show came out, it had such good reviews, I decided to watch an episode. I couldn't stop. It's well written, well acted, and truly binge worthy. Another hit for Netflix.

Give It a Few Episodes...Then It Becomes Great
29 May 2021
I'm the first to admit, the first two episodes were kinda dry. Despite the slow start, we hung in and continued to watch until it became the most anticipated tv show of our tv watching week. The cast does a really good job; you'll love to hate the bad guys and cheer for the good guys. That's just how a cop show should be. This show isn't like your typical episodic L&O series, but give it chance and it will soon grab your attention.

Great Bingeworthy Show
24 May 2021
Although drab and bleak, this show really grabs your attention and holds on. This is a series full of dysfunctional people just like in the real world and it pulls no punches in relaying that point across to the viewer. The acting, the pace, and the story are all top notch. This one shouldn't be missed.

A Modern Day Heavy Metal
8 May 2021
Great adult animation. The stories and art styles are varied throughout the series. Some stories were better than others, but that's just a matter of individual taste. All episodes are interesting and very well done, however. If you liked Heavy Metal, chances are you'll love this. Can't wait for series 2.

A Decent but Forgettable Movie from Netflix
30 April 2021
This is basically a ghost story. I wouldn't really classify it as horror; it's more in the genre of drama/thriller. It's well acted and the pace, albeit slow, is good for this type of movie. The story is recycled from movies that we have all seen before, some done better, some maybe not as well. Anyways, it was good entertainment and definitely worth a watch.

CGI is 10/10, Plot is 3/10 = 6.5/10 Overall
5 April 2021
Watch the movie for the CGI; it's truly spectacular. Forget the story; it's full of plot holes and nonsensical pseudoscientific bs. That being said, however, overall this flick is worth the watch to see a giant ape fight giant lizards and destroy stuff doing it. Just leave your brain at the door. Too bad great CGI does not a good movie make.

Great Thriller. Definitely Bingeworthy.
8 March 2021
I didn't have much enthusiasm about this show, but my wife wanted to watch. I'm glad she did; it turned out to be a twisting thriller that held my attention throughout the entire first season. Full of creepy characters, you can't determine who's good and who's not until the very last couple of episodes, the first 8 episodes are there just to build tension. It ends on a cliffhanger, though, so I just hope Amazon picks it up for season 2. I recommend you give 'Tell Me Your Secrets' a try.

Man, How Far Bruce Willis Has Fallen
4 March 2021
This is one of those movies that spends all its budget securing a fading megastar to attract viewers. I didn't watch, however, because of Bruce; I watched it because of Frank Grillo, who has churned out a few lesser known B-movie gems in the past that earned my admiration. Unfortunately, this movie is not one of them. Pairing Bruce and Frank with this movie is like icing a turd, yeah, it looks pretty from a distance, but get close and it still stinks. Bad plot, bad FX, and bad acting make a bad movie. Skip this one.

Meh....
20 February 2021
This movie is ok; that's the problem, it should be great. It has excellent actors and an interesting premise, but the story keeps it from rising to greatness. It starts out making you think it's gonna be the kind of movie you would expect from such an ensemble, but the second half ultimately disappoints. It should be an exciting thriller; it ends up as a plodding melodrama. This movie, without it's A list cast, would be just another serial killer B movie. See it, but don't expect a lot.

Decent Mindless Fun
18 February 2021
As stated, this is not a thinking man's movie. The cinematography is good, but the writing/story/dialog is not. The three protagonists, while among some of my favorites, are held back by the poor writing and cannot elevate the film above a mindless killer of time. The saving grace for this flick are the special FX. They are truly top notch; if not for the FX, this movie would be about a 3. See it for the cinematography and the FX, but leave your brain at the door.

Great Spy Flick 7.5
7 February 2021
Not quite the level of a good Bond or Mission Impossible movie, but a good dang good movie none-the-less. Henry Cavill is especially good as "Napoleon Solo" and everyone else is pretty decent too. Forget the cheesy 60's tv show, this one shouldn't be mixed. It's just too bad they didn't make a sequel or two.

Long, Boring, and Nonsensical
11 January 2021
I gave this flick a four because it did have a few promising scenes, but, unfortunately, the sum of those scenes does not a good movie make. In the end, all I could think of is how I wished I had the two hours I wasted on this movie magically return to me. Skip it.

Great Miniseries Based on True Events
29 November 2020
Ignore the cartoon-like film filter; the story is so engrossing and well made that you eventually forget it's actually there. This is an epic story that can stand with the best WW2 movies or series made. The narrative is multifaceted, but, at least to me, the underlying message is twofold; it is a tribute to the men involved (the Greatest Generation) and the expression of the true horrors of war as that can only be realized by the combatants. I guess that can be said of many WW2 movies, but at any rate, it's an entertaining watch and a recommended viewing for Netflix subscribers.

Another Good Film from Netflix
21 October 2020
This was a good flick about Sherlock Holmes' younger sister. Aimed firmly at the young adult/family market, it is a well-made and well-acted period piece. This is a good choice for an evening of family friendly entertainment. Recommended for young and old with a Netflix subscription.

Another Good Movie from Netflix
21 October 2020
Mean, cruel, and unflinching, Devil All the Time is indeed a highly depressing movie. It's also one I couldn't look away from. It's full of misery, loss, and irredeemable characters placed against a southern gothic background. Tom Holland's portrayal of a good man whose actions send him on a cascade of increasingly worsening situations is at the heart of this well-made flick. Good pick for an evening's entertainment if you're a Netflix subscriber.

Attention Future Action Movies....This is How it's Done
13 June 2020
Edge of your seat excitement from beginning to end; this is the flick that all action movies aspire to be. If you like the other movies in this series, the you'll love this one. Tom Cruise maybe a strange fellow in his private life, but damn, he makes good movies. Do yourself a favor, don't miss this one. It maybe the best action movie in recent memory.
