Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story (2011)
Really bad
A simple telling of the J K Rowling story propbably made for a US audience.
The accents are just weird and acting quite poor. Joanne Rowling does not have a "posh" accent, nor does she have the aussie twang the actress who plays keeps wavering between..
Ridiculous school uniform, nothing like most state schools would have in primary school and again at the state school she taught at.
We dont "graduate" from secondary school only university in the UK, so why the graduation cake etc. May have been a little celebration but no "graduation"
Mention of atorneys.instead of lawyers.
The magical scenes were pleasant but spoiled by the awful acting.
What If... (2010)
Dreadful film
I thought the film was over then discovered it still had another half an hour to go!!!
Just boring, not funny not even a good at delivering a moral message . Just dull dull dull
The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
very disappointing
I have seen the stage show twice many years ago and have always loved the music. I saw this film on a tiny television so thought that was why I didn't really enjoy it. However I recently saw the live broadcast of the 25th anniversary performance from the Royal Albert Hall at my local cinema. The performances of Ramon Karimaloo and Sierra Boggess were absolutely stunning and came away with my love for this musical reignited. So last night I noted the film was on TV. This time I watched it on a decent television with surround sound system and again I was so disappointed with the lack lustre performances and the weak voices.
Jane Eyre (2006)
A very poor version
This is a very poor version compared to others , especially the previous BBC 1973 version. Jane's child hood was rushed, which is vital part of the story.I should have taken up the first episode.
I am not sure what makeup they have used to make this Jane look so odd, as if they were trying to make a pretty girl look ugly. The script skips from modern day language to victoriana, then long silences without any meaning. It is all very strange.
I look forward to seeing this having read the book many times, but this production was such a let down. The only redeeming feature was the young girl who played young Jane and Toby Stephens. Although a little young his performance grew on me, but still not a patch on Michael Jayston's Rochester.
Thunderbirds (1965)
A new generation of Thunderbird lovers.
Both my husband and I were Thunderbirds fans the first time round. We are now in our late thirties. Now our 5 year old son is hooked. Even though the animation is so dated, the stories are still exciting even to this generation used to sophisticated FX. All my son's class are Thunderbirds fan's. I still have vivid memories of Alan on the bridge with Grandma not able to move without setting the bomb off.
We are starting to collect the DVDs and one of my favourite sights is Sam curled up in his Daddy's lap watching Thunderbirds together.
