The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
An unworthy pretentious S*** Show
This film is so disingenuous, and its cult audience is so naive. It's trying so hard to be something it's not, and something it will never be. I guess in the barebones plot it had opportunity, but at the end of the day the problem is its portrayal of families grieving and mental suffering, not the pretentious symbolism it tries so hard to convey. Watch hereditary for the experience you would want from this film.
American Psycho II: All American Girl (2002)
Would've been better if they maintained the original title
I watched this movie recently, being the keen Christian Bale fan I am. After watching it I felt robbed, emotionally, and financially. When I learned that the film was originally going to be called "the girl who wouldn't die" I pondered on why they made the decision they ma- oh yeah money. The film industry is becoming increasingly corporate as time continues, and lets all remember, this film was made in 2002.
Black Mirror: Smithereens (2019)
Its been a while since a performance made me cry
This episode tore me apart, I wanted to play the moral high ground but I had no idea who to route for, I had a vague idea of what was going to happen but never exactly pin pointed an idea. I highly recommend this to any avid black mirror fan.
Us (2019)
amazing and unnecessary camerawork
I was extremely excited when I heard Jordan Peele was directing another possibly political horror movie. but leaving the theatre the theatre the day the film released I felt confused and disappointed..
the movie's camerawork and cinematography was amazing. although they had many visually pleasing shots, some of them where just thrown at you, not conveying emotion not adding to character development, they were just there.
the scene of tex's family left me angry with everybody who decided to put effort into the scene, the dark humour got a disingenuous giggle out of me because I was still so distraught on the extremely infuriating choice of practically everything to do with that particular setting. it was gratuitous and quite frankly hideous to the eyes.
I feel I am being rather negative to the films execution. it definitely delivered the apparent political remarks made for some great theories circulating across the internet. the uncertainty of where they were going to take the film made for some great suspense
the pluto scene veering towards the final twist was amazing, down to the colour grading to the camera angles that scene really made me satisfied and gratified.
overall a film I recommend to
I was always fond of camerawork, thats why I tend to focus on those specific flaws, I do not have a very big say in many other aspects. thats why I involved this review solely on the topics I am aware of in the film department.
