Genius
7 October 2019
Joaquin Phoenix was absolutely sublime. This film is incredibly grim and dark but opens the door for discussion about mental health and bullying, and the sociological factors that enthrall the circumstances of any pivotal breakdown. There's a lot of points of views on this film out there but I would strongly suggest watching it to understand the entire narrative. Definitely thought provoking, and not the typical comic book adaptation. This was a thoroughly rooted piece of work. I loved it. Phoenix deserves an Oscar for his performance.

Sloppy Execution
10 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I loved Chapter 1, so I went into Chapter 2 with high hope. The beginning sequence felt forced and incredibly exaggerated, with no relation to anything else that happens in the film. Henry Bowers had a brief cameo, honestly I don't know why he was even kept in the sequel for the little involvement he had. Pivotal scenes, like Stanley's death, were rushed or poorly handled. And for being a film at 2 hours and 40 mins, I felt that they did too much and not enough at the same time. I loved the adult actors in this film, they matched the younger actors quite well, they had modern technology at their disposal and an immense book to diligently pull material from and it just fell short of mediocre. They could've made Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 and really emphasized on the horrors they experienced as a kids, and then amp up the horror as adults. Aside from the Lumberjack scene and Stanley spider head... I did not get a horror vibe - AT ALL. The whimsical music also took so much from the film, as if they were in a world full of delight and wonder; it made no sense. As a Rated R film, they really held back. The studio really blew this... it could've easily been the first billion dollar horror film.

Great Film Adaptation By Guillermo!
10 August 2019
Excellent adaptation! All the stories were creepy, scary and caused me anxiety-ridden jitters. The scariest one to me was "The Jangly Man" - got too real too quick. 😂 The film has a great balance of humor, horror, action and suspense without one taking from the other. The final face-off with the source of all the stories was a bit anticlimactic but aside from that, I was thoroughly thrilled! 🙌🏽

Relied Heavily On Nostalgia....
19 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Timon and Pumba carried the film. It was all off. The iconic scenes felt rushed, there was no emotion on any of the characters, and they prolonged pointless scenes. Felt like they went down a checklist of what they needed to achieve, which scenes needed a "twist" and slapped it together. I felt nothing during Mufasa's death, Scar did not have a dramatic and theatrical sequence when mildly, halfheartedly sung 'Be Prepared', and Young Simba sounded like an annoying whiney kid. While it wasn't bad, it was not good by any stretch of the imagination. It felt like a poor "live action" recap of the original. With a budget of 260M, I'm wondering if most of it went to the celebrities who voiced the expressionless characters.

'Shrooms and Storytelling
8 July 2019
So... A24 studios needs to formally announce their own genre. Midsommar is not a horror film. It is storytelling. It's not bad, but it's not great - not great because this is marketed as a genre that it is not. This is a trippy story about experiencing grief, overcoming personal challenges and strongly grasping who you are in order to adapt yourself to a new beginning. If you're expecting a thrilling, edgy and gripping fright fest - you'll be sorely disappointed.

SHOOK!
3 July 2019
I am SHOOK! I didn't know what to expect but this was an incredible adventure. The effects on the world post-Infinity War and Endgame are evident and brought a brutal reality that Spidey had to face. The trailers gave NOTHING away. Lots of surprises. The mid-credit scene FLOORED me. I cannot wait for what's next, not only for Spider-Man, but for the entire MCU.

Wasted Money
1 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Dark Phoenix had the potential to be incredible and amazing but failed miserably. The fact that they had to do multiple reshoots, including reshooting the ending, was a dead giveaway to a poor production. The train sequence was the best part of the film... the choreography of the fights, the intensity, the reality of losing allies in battles - it was amazing, but that was it. All the characters had narratives totally out of place. Jean Grey's potential was kept to a minimum (better than The Last Stand though.) And the final fight sequence between The Phoenix and the villain was a total copy to 2002's Firestarter: Rekindled ending. I wonder if the original ending filmed was mimicked down to the dialogue because the final cut was too close in resemblance. They wasted money - I can't wait for Marvel Studios to do justice by the poorly handled X-Men franchise.

HILARIOUS
1 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed Toy Story 4 - I wasn't sure what could be done after TS3 because it felt like the perfect ending but TS4 was a perfect conclusion to Woody's purpose. The entire franchise focuses on his purpose being to support Andy but that no longer fell in place being in Bonnie's toy box. I loved it. Key and Peele stole the show though, they were incredibly hilarious. Not too big on Keanu Reeves' role... not sure why it got so much hype. The ending was heartfelt and emotional. With Woody and Buzz going their separate ways, I don't see another TS film working.... but they may prove me wrong because TS4 was refreshing and an updated outlook to the world of living toys.

So Much Potential Left On The Table...
1 July 2019
I was disappointed with Annabelle Comes Home because they had an immense list of material to use and they didn't. There were too many ideas and they all clashed and the story didn't make sense at times. The "comedy" scenes felt awkward and forced, just like The Nun, and overall came across like it was supposed to be a teen suspense film rather than a horror film. It kept me at the edge off my seat a bit but never went beyond that. Annabelle Creation and the first Conjuring are still the best films out of this whole franchise.

The Underdog
14 May 2019
Shazam is a genius piece of work that was poorly promoted. The film has a perfect balance of grim and joy. Zachary Levi performed this role right on the mark. I didn't know who he was before this film but fell in love. The entire cast was perfect. The Villain's special effects were amazing. He had some of the best and most realistic landings when he would come down from flight. Highly impressed.

Brilliant Masterpiece
12 May 2019
Avengers: Endgame was the perfect conclusion to the current MCU as we know it. The intricate focus to details that call back to practically all the previous 21 films is genius. There are great laughs, emotional cries and overwhelmingly exciting surprises. To any fan of the MCU that's followed these beloved characters since Day 1, this is everything and more. I loved it.
