Hidalgo (2004)
Hidalgo
I have just watched the film Hidalgo and I cannot express the words for this film, just to say it was fantastic! I am a great western fan and so anything that has a cowboy and his horse is fine by me. This was cowboy and his horse meets Arabia. The main story is about a race in Arabia, but this is just too simple a line to say, there are stories in and around the race. The film keeps your interest from the start to the end, and is just pure entertainment. No swearing, no violence, well there are the usual gunfights but no undue violence. It is the kind of film that you can watch over and over again. The acting was great from all who took part, Omar Sharif, well what can I say, he can recite a telephone directory and still make it sound interesting. The setting of the film was perfect as well. I can honestly find nothing wrong with this film and would recommend everyone to watch it. I have given the film 10 0ut of 10 but only because thats as high as it can go, really I would like to give 20+.
Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005)
Mrs Henderson
What a delight this film was, it was pure entertainment from beginning to end. Everyone knows (well my generation does) that the Windmill never closed and to watch a film about the Theatre was great. The story, the acting was just perfect and I would recommend everyone to watch this film. Judi Dench and Bob Hoskin are just great actors and they did not let us down in this film, and what about Will Young? Will is great singer and now we see another side to him as an actor, well done to him. It does not seem five minutes since I was voting my socks off for him on the talent show on ITV (sorry the name of the programme escapes me for a moment), I was delighted when he won and have many of his cd's. Well done to everyone concerned in making the film.
Casino Royale (2006)
Casino Royale
I have just watched Casino Royale and it was the most exciting Bond film that I have ever watched. I have watched all the Bond films right from Sean Connery onwards, and I was not a real Bond fan until Roger Moore took over as 007. After watching Daniel Craig I have to say that he has my vote every time. The film has a good story, there was plenty of action, not too much blood and guts, and all round good entertainment. There was so much publicity with this film before it came out that I was sure it was not going to be any good, boy, was I wrong, great film, great set of actors - well done to everyone concerned! I would recommend this film top everyone to watch, even if you are not a James Bond fan.
Summer Magic (1963)
Summer Magic
I have just watched Summer Magic again,it has been many years since I first saw the film. I enjoyed the film when it first came out and I still enjoyed it again today. It was one of those enjoyable films with a story and sheer entertainment, no swearing and a delight to watch. Great names like Burl Ives, Hayley Mills, Peter Brown etc, well do I need to go on, they all made the film. I was much younger when the first came out and my friend and I thought how wonderful it would be to walk down some stairs and have the lovely Peter Brown waiting for you. As I said I was younger then, but when I saw Summer Magic again today, I still had not changed my mind about Peter Brown waiting at the bottom of the stairs for me! I would recommend this film to everyone to watch.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Da Vinci Code
I have just watched the DVD Da Vinci Code.I was aware of the fuss and bother that went with the film including one remark that someone did not like Tom Hanks hair it was too long! If Tom Hanks had made this film bald it would still have been a great film and I have given it 10 out of 10. I cannot remember the last time I actually sat down and watched a film and was entertained. All religious/political reasons etc have to be put on one side and take the film as it was, pure entertainment and a jolly good viewing. I congratulate Ron Howard on his film, he has come a long way since Ritchie Cunningham on Happy Days - yes I am that old! I just do not know what else to say about this film it was just fantastic and I advise everyone to watch it.
The Wedding Planner (2001)
The Wedding Planner
I have just recently seen the DVD The Wedding Planner and I quite enjoyed the film. This is the type of film that I would class as a woman's film, I think there was things mentioned a woman could relate to but a man would rubbish it. This is the first time that I have seen Jennifer Lopez and her costar Matthew McConaughey in a film and I just thought that the acting was great. It was a very entertaining film with a story, no violence, no swearing. Until I watched this DVD I did not realise that there was such a thing as a wedding planner, I could have done with one of those when I got married, took the hassle out of everything. It was a pleasant film to watch and it was a pleasure to sit down and watch it, and I would recommend it to anyone.
The Concrete Jungle (1982)
Concrete Jungle
I liked the film Concrete Jungle it reminded me of the Australian TV series shown here in the UK Prisoner Cell Block H. Concrete Jungle had a good storyline, perhaps too much swearing in it, but in this day and age this is nothing to crow about. The swearing in the film would not stop me from watching it again and again The acting was very good from everyone in the film and I was routed to the spot watching the film, I just had to see how the film ended and if everyone got their just deserts. I am a great admirer of the actor Peter Brown and it was great to see him in the part of Mr Bad Guy for a change, although I still prefer him in westerns and Mr Nice Guy.
