Walking Tall (1973)

Very interesting film, couldn't step away
21 February 2006
I caught this film in 2006 on the action channel while surfing for something quick to watch for 30 min. I was still there at the end and I had no idea this was supposed to be based on a true story until the credits rolled. It's especially interesting to read some of the reviews here and learn of the fate of the actors and actresses and Mr. Bufford himself outside of the film.

Wow, 33 years ago. I was about 6 when this was made and I'm sure my parents drove a dodge like that ... I can still feel the heat from the vinyl seats burning my legs in the middle of summer.

As for the mystery boom-mike that several folks mention, maybe I was too into the story and in awe of life in the southern US, but I never saw it once! Definitely worth a viewing. As one reviewer said, it may be a good one to watch when you've given up on finding any body left 'walking tall' around you. I saw the remake with 'the rock' before this version. Not even close. The rock's version is your typical Hollywood action flick. This one felt pretty real for '73 and it does get your blood boiling. Granted, some scenes seem pretty far fetched, but the key focus on corruption is there through-out. Maybe we need someone to make an up to date film featuring behind the scenes at Enron.

Eve (I) (2002)
Had potential ... but became too hokey
26 April 2004
Well, I'm watching the film as I write this so maybe I'm reviewing it prematurely, but I thought that once I started laughing the intended emotional grasp was lost on me. My wife is asking how much longer it is.... it's another hour.

As a photographer, I do commend the images. Very beautiful. As is the model. If this was a 30 minute film and the soft porn was left out then it would probably rate much higher. No need for the Calvin Klein ads interspersed. The music does get tedious after a while as well.

Still, I'm glad I saw it once, at least to see the beauty of nature captured on film if nothing else.

Couldn't leave the film, even though I wanted to!

This started as something curious to watch, something light. Well that changed almost imperceptibly as I was drawn into the film and the story.

In a way it's a typical story line, yet not so typical as so few people have experienced what happens to the characters. The emotional levels really pull you up and down as the movie explores the idea of true love vs. lust and romance vs. marriage. Also exploring ideas about getting what you want in life materially and career and classes of society and how those intertwine with attraction and love.

The music was also very moving, making the emotions that much stronger. I'm a man and yet it made me laugh and cry ... making me think back to events in my own life.

Life can be so simple and pure if we want it to be .... but is that boring?

An excellent blend of moving music, photography and story

I was very pleasantly surprised by this film which I just watched. From the title and cover description, I was expecting a typical raunchy sex flick which I'd have to turn off after 5 minutes.

But, ... from the very first note of the introductory musical piece, I was engrossed. The story was very real with an emotional pull and the musical score was excellent, complimenting the beautifully photographed film. The story itself is an interesting reflection of society in that time and leaves the viewer thinking after the film has ended.

Don't hesitate to see this one if you want something beyond the typical dribble of today.!
