Venus (2006)
A great film, it stays with you for days
I watched this film on Friday, and here I am on Sunday still thinking about it and wanting to watch it again. I loved every minute and found myself crying at the end (along with my friend and most of the cinema.
Although I am not yet 40, i did wonder whether I might turn into either of the men beautifully portrayed by Leslie and Peter. It was a sympathetic look at old age without being too sentimental about it at the same time. Why would a young 17 year old know of Shakespeare and why would the old man know of Kylie....these two worlds were thrown together and both found ways to appreciate each other.
Redgrave was excellent as was Leslie Philips...."I am praying for euthanasia" and many other excellent lines.
Excellent - 10 out of 10.
Quand j'étais chanteur (2006)
Two people with baggage, strangely drawn to each other.
I saw this film this afternoon at the London Fim Festival and loved it. You clearly got a sense of a singer in the twilight of his career observing either younger singers much better than understanding the needs of the audience than himself, or realising that his companions from years ago have done much better than he has.
I sometimes felt that we were watching two stories, one about the Singer and another about the younger woman. Each had baggage, both were drawn to each other in ways they did not expect.
go see this if you get the chance, and stay and watch the credits to find a few extras thrown in.
Ainoa (2005)
I was hooked within 5 minutes of the film starting !
I saw this film this evening at the London science fiction film festival. I loved the scenery, photography, soundtrack and story line. I was fortunate to meet the producer afterwards and was able to thank him in person.
The futuristic city in the mountains was gorgeous to look at - and of course following a nuclear war, I guess the mountains are one place you might turn to in order to try and survive and repopulate.
The actor who portrays Ainoa did so in a very imaginative and believable way, avoiding the usual stereotypical view of androids. I loved the concept of being able to communicate with the past, and also the premise that even if you could change the past, you might get it wrong!
I want to see this film again.
