This movie's pacing won't let you take your eyes of the screen
23 December 2020
It is most unfortunate that Korean movies such as this one do not get as much international attention as they deserve. The Man Standing Next is a brilliant political drama about the assassination of Park Chung-hee, who got to power through a coup d'état, in 1970. The movie tells the set of events that took place beforehand and ultimately made the protagonist Kim Jae-gyu kill one of his long time friends. The cast and the make-up are perfect to a degree in which the actors look almost the same than their historical counterparts (just have a look at the images after you've watched the movie). But by far the best thing about this movie is musical accompaniment combined with the quick pacing of events. While similar movies might suffer from boring and uneventful parts the chain of action is so fast paced in this movie that you keep your attention up at all time. Summarized one can say that everyone who worked on this movie has done a great job that should be appreciated by as many people as possible. So if you're looking for some intriguing entertainment, go ahead and give this one a watch.

Your Lie in April (2014–2015)

This anime will break, crush and tear apart your heart
24 April 2020
I originally wanted to write a longer review, but all I can say about this anime now is this. If you may struggle to find beauty and art in sad things (such as I did) you won't want to watch this, but if you love music and can get yourself through to watch this, you will see a piece of art which is just as enjoyable as happy animation, but which will make you cry in the end. This anime made me cry about a cinematic piece, which I haven't done since my childhood around seven years ago, that's how sad it is. It makes you feel lucky for everything you have achieved, it will unleash your deepest emotions and just like its said in the anime, it will reach your heart and never be forgotten.

Fun but a surreal embarrassing watching experience
19 April 2020
I don't really get why people either hate this movie cause the humor would be horrible or praise it to the heavens because it would be such a great movie. I've not seen a single in between review which really described what I felt watching this movie. I don't even think this is gonna be read by anyone, but I just want to get this of my heart.

While watching a movie I have never ever felt as embarrassed as I have been watching this one. Trust me if you can make fun of yourself and just absurd parts of the movie without finding it bad, you're gonna enjoy this one. But I also get the point some others mentioned, that they don't get what should be so funny about the movie. Some parts are just fun because of the absurd lines the actors say to each other and some are hilarious because the story is so absurdly unrealistic. And while some might criticize that, it's exactly what I can laugh about. In the end I rate a movie by how much it has entertained me and this movie did a good job at that.

I won't tell anyone not to listen to the critics because they sure have they points and rating this movie in a coming up age genre it sure is a good one, trying to entertain with a just a tiny bit of depth. I also understand the people who hate the movie and give one star reviews because they thought it was crap and they just couldn't enjoy the absurdity of the movie. I rarely get both sides of the coin but this movie is the first one I truly do.

I laughed so loud I woke my family up and I fell back into my chair finding it really hard to keep my eyes on the monitor. This movie was unique to watch in many good and many bad ways but thats just what made it so entertaining and versatile!

Sex Education: Episode 8 (2020)
Season 2, Episode 8

Incomprehensible Ending
18 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So season ones ending was already hard to take in, because seeing something you wish for not working out, because characters keep talking dishonest to each other, drives you crazy. But it was acceptable, because it also had a realistic touch to it.

However this ending brings it to a whole new level. The only reason I am giving three stars here is because the rest of the episode was quite fine, except when Adam needed the audience of a whole theater to tell what he feels. It showed some nice self reflection. This makes it even more incomprehensible to believe that the ending of season two was unsatisfying because of the exact same reason than season ones. The protagonist is beating around the bush. Some movies are able to have a protagonist who undergoes a whole character transformation while the audience cares about him. Sex Education however is not able to bring this character transformation up for 14 hours and when it finally occurs to Otis that it is important to be honest and hold onto people you love the season ends? It is the reversed ending of season one. This is a lack of creativity and incredibly disappointing. Dissatisfaction on a whole new level which even tends to make you angry, because using this cliffhanger once feels bad, but is ok, but using the exact same thing caused by the exact same reason twice, but just reversed, to keep the audience around, is embarrassing and poor.

Yes Netflix I would still have a reason to watch the show after Mavis and Otis become a couple! So please don't annoy the audience by a stupid behavior of the characters, you made them care for, just so you can keep up the tension. Wrong approach... wrong approach

Abominable (2019)
9/10
Breathtaking
8 January 2020
While the movie may need a while to get going it is even more stunning later on. Rewatching it now, the film touched me even more than it did in the cinema. Abominable tells the story of an unusual friendship between a yeti and a girl while brilliantly presenting what family actually means and what every one can do for each other. The beautiful violin pieces create such a thrilling flow which makes you wish the movie would go on forever. The scenery is a diverse illustration of China especially showing off the beautiful nature the country has to offer. The animation looks awesome and visuals get even better when you let yourself be enchanted by the wonderful things Abominable illustrates. As always, DreamWorks did a fantastic job with this movie and you won't regret watching it.
